What happened after the war
It was just after the end of the third wizarding war, just after the end of the second war with Voldemort. Harry knew he had to somehow make up for the damage he had done to the bank when they robbed it and then flew away on the dragon. He was nervous and didn't deny it.
But he had to defend himself somehow and had to explain the actions that led to that fateful moment. He was originally supposed to go with Ron and Hermione since they were also there with him that day, but they both told him that they were already responsible for their actions and would pay the amount of money that was placed on them, only the two never said how much it was.
Harry didn't find it strange though. Although they went everywhere together, the bank was not on that list, he was just sorry that they didn't solve the problem they got into together as friends. It does not matter.
Harry wasn't surprised that the goblins looked at him strangely when he stepped into the bank. He saw for the first time how much damage they had done and it made him even more sorry that they had done such a thing, but it was necessary in order to stop Voldemort.
He didn't even expect a hero's welcome, so he simply waited for someone to register him after reporting his reason for visiting. He didn't mind that it had taken almost fifteen minutes and he really didn't lack the patience to have to remind himself that he was standing there waiting for even the slightest hint of being noticed.
He knew very well that they had noticed him.
Nor was he surprised that the seemingly top manager of Gringotts Bank came to him and looked at him with passionate hatred. He didn't ask the reason. He knew him very well.
“It's very presumptuous of you to step onto goblin soil after your performance here a few weeks ago.” even the hatred in his voice didn't surprise him.
No one would be offended or upset by such behavior, but Harry knew he was guilty and had no intention of denying it.
"That's why I came. To give you a formal apology here and bear the consequences for my actions that I have committed. I am willing to accept whatever punishment you see fit or that will be in accordance with your law.” and even though he knew it might be a death sentence, he wasn't afraid of it.
If death could solve his daily nightmares and frequent flashbacks during the day, he would welcome death with open arms just to get rid of it.
He wasn't well, and he knew it.
Still, he didn't expect the shocked expressions on the goblins' faces. Which he honestly didn't understand. He couldn't be the first to be willing to take the blame for his actions, after all Ron and Hermione were here too and they had to apologize for the damage they had done, especially when the dragon was Hermione's idea. After all, she had to come here too, as she said she did, and explain her reasons for doing it that way.
"After a very long time we hear from a wizard that he is willing to own up to his actions and face the consequences in goblin law." and that's when Harry began to doubt that his two friends had come here.
Instead, he decided to act on his own behalf for the time being, since they had the opportunity to come with him and defend themselves. He thus made a formal apology to the goblin nation for the damage he had caused, offering his services in repairing the bank, along with funds, but wanting to explain in private the reason why he had to do this.
Why did he have to break into a bank, steal an artifact and run away with it, even if it meant damaging the building.
“I know you're not very interested in what's going on in our society, but I certainly don't need to explain who Voldemort was. But telling his story would take a lot of time, so I'll just explain the essentials, which is why I did what I did.
Voldemort created vitals. It is not important what items contained his soul, what is important for you to know is that one of his vitals was in Lestrange's vault-”
“But that's illegal for us goblins! It is the blackest magic we know, and hiding such items in our vaults is punishable by death!'
Harry blinked in surprise. This wasn't something he expected, but if it was the blackest of magic, why hadn't anyone told them that they could use it when dealing with goblins and not have to break into a bank. Sure, the goblins couldn't search the safes as they wanted, but it would still help them and they could solve it somehow differently.
“But you should know this, Mr. Potter. Your magical guardian must have told you about how to handle your bank accounts, and he must have explained to you the laws that apply in our nation.'
But Harry really didn't know what the little eared goblin was talking about.
What magical guardian? He's definitely hearing this term for the first time, and he didn't even know he was supposed to have one. The only guardians were his relatives and no one else cared for him, certainly no one else to teach him goblin laws.
"I'm sorry, but I really have no idea what you're talking about here."
And then it all started. All the fumbling and scrambling and asking questions that Harry either didn't know the answer to or knew the answer to but it wasn't right. He had only come here to formally apologize and offer his help in fixing the bank, and suddenly he found himself in a carousel of huge paperwork, signing and revealing secrets he should never have known.
And that the goblins really knew a lot.
First: Dumbledore, as bizarre as it was, was his magical guardian and was supposed to teach him everything a proper wizard from a large and powerful family should know, but he never did.
Second: His parents' will was never read. It was sealed by the Potters themselves, and the will was to be read when Harry was safest, or when the opportunity was right. The reading of the will was scheduled for the same day, three hours later, so that everyone involved could come to the bank.
Third: Sirius and Remus' wills weren't even read. Sirius's will was not read because it was sealed to her by Dumbledore, and Remus's was sealed by Andromeda Tonks, but for security reasons, and was scheduled for a month later. That made sense. What didn't make sense was why Dumbledore had Sirius' will sealed.
Fourth: there were so many potions and charms in his system that the Head Goblin's eyes rolled, Harry sat in shock at the amount of harmful substances he had in him, but the most bizarre was the line: "We goblins can remove vital from humans, and it doesn't include the casting of the killing curse at the hands of the one whose soul piece was inside you.'
It wasn't nearly all of it, but it was the things that shocked him the most. He didn't even want to think about what would happen to his body if all these things were to remain inside him, he had no doubt that sooner or later he would die anyway because his magical core couldn't handle it, and it was rather admirable, that he had lasted so long alive without his body beginning to fail.
This began the stage of purification. Harry never wanted to go through that kind of pain again in his life because it was far worse than the Cruciatus Curse he would have placed on himself rather than having to undergo another cleansing ritual. But it was good for something.
Especially in the fact that he finally looked the way he should have looked if he lived in a normal family, and not all by his tyrannical relatives who let him starve. His body had gained all the necessary substances, he could see without his glasses, he was much taller, maybe a little shorter than Ron, but it was only a slight difference, his body filled out, so he was no longer too skinny and wiry, but the right weight, and plenty of muscle, his face didn't change at all, the only thing that was different were his eyes.
They were still green as he remembered them, but the green color was interwoven with bright gold and Harry had absolutely no idea where the golden sheen, and how noticeable it was, had come from. It was explained to him that this was a certain legend, but all the necessary evidence was lost to call this legend true, and that there were indeed living descendants of that particular family.
Harry refused to mess with it any further. He didn't need to know something that might or might not be based on the truth, so he didn't care if it was true or not, but with his luck it would be true.
“You asked us if Hermione Granger and Ronald Weasley were here, or if they at least sent an owl. Neither of them have been here since that day. They didn't even send an owl with any apology or explanation. But we can assure you that the final total of damages would have already been calculated, adjusted to two payers instead of three, and the final amount sent to those two.” for the first time in his life, Harry was glad that he mustered enough honesty and courage to apologize for the massive damages, which he committed. "Don't be fooled. We really wanted to send you an invoice with the amount we wanted to take from your safe, the message is still here, but luckily we won't have to send it anymore. It saved you that you came to formally apologize for the damage done and that you offered to help during the repairs. We will of course use this service. As well as your financial support."
From that day on, Harry helped the goblins with anything they could think of. Harry didn't mind if he didn't mean it, he would never have offered his services, but the goblins did an inventory of all his possessions for free, looking for all legal and illegal contracts of any type, and Harry gave them help in return.
He often came home tired or completely exhausted, but he didn't mind. He was sure that if he hadn't apologized to the goblins it would have turned out a lot worse than if he had refused to help fix Hogwarts.
A few weeks later, all the changes that were suppressed by all sorts of potions began to manifest themselves in Harry. First of all, it was his natural intelligence. He was about to enter his final year at Hogwarts, and wanted to know how difficult it would be, only to find out that he had memorized an entire book on magic formulas, transfiguration, the gourd in just one day.
He definitely wanted to test this theory.
Within a month Harry had passed his SCA exams for seventh year so he didn't even have to go back to Hogwarts, he got his results another two weeks later only to pass with the highest marks, breaking the record from 1910.
When his help fixing the bank ended, which took a total of another six months, Harry learned a few more things he'd rather not know.
The first, and worst of all, was the illegal marriage contract with Ginny. He had his suspicions that such a thing actually existed, as Ginny made no secret of the fact that Harry would one day marry her and she would be Lady Potter, which really didn't make sense to Harry, but Harry was more than certain that his orientation was somehow elsewhere.
Unfortunately for Ginny, this contract was easily voidable. Since this contract was made without Harry's knowledge, it left him with one advantage.
He was allowed to marry anyone else he saw fit or whom he loved until such time as the marriage contract became valid, which was until Harry was twenty-five. He had plenty of time to find someone to help him break this inappropriate contract.
Another thing was as outrageous as the marriage contract itself.
Dumbledore and the Weasleys along with Hermione were robbing his safes. He knew from his parents' will that they were one of the richest families in Britain and after Sirius had bequeathed him every galleon he had, Harry had truly become the richest member in Britain, even richer than Malfoy.
After they have to return all the money they stole from him, he will keep this bar even more stable, along with all the investments he has planned.
He just had to disappear from the earth.
He no longer wanted to be in such company and was sure that he had to disappear from Great Britain, specifically from Europe, so he asked for an inventory of real estate in America.
He also thought about how Draco Malfoy would be treated here. Jan, they weren't the best of friends, but they weren't mortal enemies anymore. Both had helped each other when needed after the war, so Harry wanted Draco out of British Society's influence and offered to come with him to America. Draco accepted without hesitation, with the only difference being that he would have his name changed.
Harry removed the mark of evil from his hand, then together they changed Draco's almost white blond to a color that was almost golden, which Draco was somewhat comfortable with, and three days later the two were on their way to Central City, where Harry had one of his properties, and was to host Dragon until he finds something of his own.
They had high hopes for a new beginning and hopefully it will be worth it. Draco was absolutely enthralled with his study of forensics and Harry thought he had had enough of the danger and took advantage of his current genius level brain to study engineering, biophysics and biochemistry. Draco had often mocked him for taking on too much, but Harry had proven that he could pass his exams in one school year, earning doctorates in all of these subjects, and Draco had stopped from that day.
To say that this was the only study Harry took was a huge understatement and he threw himself headlong into another study that would hopefully occupy him for more than just one school year. He was going to study medicine which would hopefully give him a bit of work as he needed a certain amount of hours to be allowed to practice at the hospital, but when it turned out that Harry really was a genius and a very fast learner they let him practice in his second year and at the end Harry passed the exams anyway.
Instead, Harry decided to take a year off to think about what he wanted to do next with his life.
____
Barry was really surprised by what he heard from his husband's mouth. He was sure there was a lot more to the story, something Harry still didn't want to talk about, but he was glad for the little that Harry was able to confide in him. After all these years he knew the answers to at least some of the questions, but he also got the answer to the one he wanted the answer to the most.
Why did Harry marry him barely two months into their relationship?
Because he himself needed to get out of a marriage contract that Harry didn't want. And Barry found that he didn't mind one bit that Harry had originally married him for selfish reasons rather than his own feelings.
“I didn't hesitate Barry. The day you came to me and explained what you needed and why it was so important for you to marry someone, my first reaction was not to save you. That was a second thought. For the first time in my life, I thought it was time for me to think about myself and not about someone else. Getting you out of it was more of a bonus for you, but I stopped hoping that someone would marry me just because they really wanted to. It didn't matter if it was because he really loved me, but because he wanted to. That I'll be married to someone who sees me for who I am and not the hero and savior of the wizarding world.” Barry honestly didn't need to explain.
He understood the reason for Harry's decision and he didn't mind that he was thinking more about himself than himself at that moment, it didn't bother him. He too was acting for selfish reasons and Harry knew that almost immediately, he still remembered the conversation they had just before the bonding ceremony that Harry had insisted on, It wasn't a hostile conversation, just Harry letting him know that he knew full well why that's what Barry does, he just didn't tell him at the time that he was doing it for the same reason.
And he was not angry with him.
Now he saw it more clearly and understood it much more than ever before and he did not get angry.
"And how does Draco Malfoy fit into all of this?" was another thing he didn't understand.
Harry had never mentioned any Draco, and Barry had never seen him, but from what he said, the Draco Malfoy was here in Central City, or at least in America, working for the police as a forensic analyst.
"He's someone you know very well." Barry just raised an eyebrow, trying to think of where he would recognize such a Draco Malfoy.
"I would remember that if I knew someone like that. That's a name that really sticks, and I seriously don't remember ever hearing that name.''
"The thing is, you really know him. Just under a different name. Let's see if you can think of someone who is slightly snobbish, prefers to work alone in a closed lab, whose family lives in England and still can't verbalize-"
“Wait, you mean Juliana? But how is it related to Draco Malfoy?” Barry watched as Harry got up from the sofa they were sitting on and went to look for something.
After five minutes he got up with a photo album in one hand and some piece of paper in the other. First he flipped to the appropriate page from the photo album, where there was a photo of them together celebrating Harry's birthday at StarLabs. He remembered that day because absolutely everything that could go wrong went wrong, starting with a burst water pipe in their apartment and ending with smallpox, which later caught their entire family and everyone who was at StarLabs that day, but he didn't have chickenpox yet.
He remembered that Jullian was there too, and that Caitlyn was very happy about it.
“This, is Jullian Albert from six months ago,” he pointed a finger at the smiling face of his forensic colleague who stood between Cisco and Caitlyn, “this,” and Harry turned the photo that had been taken with the wizard's camera, “is Draco Malfoy on the day we came to Central City eight years ago. But he already arrived here under a different name."
Barry looked in shock at the face of the identical person that was Julian Albert.
"So there are two of the same men running around?"
“No Barry. Julian Albert and Draco Malfoy are one and the same person."
