The Golden Slytherin

Halloween

October/ 31st/ 1991

Max was eating some pumpkin pasties when Astoria sat down.

“Hey Max.” Astoria says as she grabs a drink.

“Morning.” Max says with her mouth a little full.

“You excited for the feast!” She asked excitedly.

“Yess if it’s anything like these decorations then it will be wonderful.” Max says with a smile.

“Right. The floating pumpkins are amazing.” She adds while looking up at them.

“Are you ready for the Potions today.” Max says. “I still can’t believe we get to brew the Forgetfulness Potion.”

“Yeah it’s great isn’t it.” Astoria says. “Did you hear the news?”

“What news?” Max asks

“Draco has started dating Daphne.” She says rather quickly.

“Oh.” Max pauses. “That’s great.”

“I thought you should know.” She adds.

“It’s totally fine. He can be with whoever he chooses.” Max responds.

Max started adding in ingredients to Theo and hers potion. She started by chopping up dittany and adding drops honey water. Before she was interrupted.

“Are you going to the feast tonight.” Theo’s asks.

“Of course. What else would I do.” She says with a laugh.

“Right.” He laughs. “Who are you sitting with?”

“You.” She looks up at him. “Who else would I sit with”

“I was just checking.” He says as he adds 10 lion fish spines.

Honestly sometimes she wondered about boys.

Lunch was fairly short. She ate with Theo and Enzo. They had some very nice colourful drinks and blood jello. She just wondered what would be at the Halloween feast. Theo and Enzo could not stop talking about Christmas. She still had no plans. She expected her father did not want her to return home. She still had time to decide a month is enough hopefully.

In transfiguration McGonagall did not go easy on them with their quizzes. She could not remember all the conjurations. I mean how did McGonagall expect them to know the whole five principle exceptions of Gamp’s law of Elemental Transfiguration. It was bullshit if you asked her. But as no surprise her friends aced it. How could they all be so gifted. It pissed her off a bit. She just hoped Charms would go better.

Professor Flirwick wanted them to work on their knock-back jinx. With dummies of course I guess he couldn’t just them not to badly injure one another.

“You’re a natural Mrs Macintosh.” The professor commented.

“Thank you sir.” She said with a smile.

At least in Charms she always did well. By the time Charms was over. Everyone was rushing to the dining hall. To see what the Professors had in store for them. She walked into the hall. It was magnificent. She barely had words. There was bats and pumpkins floating in the ceiling. The ceiling was bewitched to be a orange palette. It was great. She went and sat down still looking around as Theo sat down beside her. Not long after Adrian, Enzo and Mattheo. She looked down to see Astoria sitting with Daphne and Draco. It left a bit of a sour taste in her mouth. She tried to ignore it. Dumberdore silenced all the chatter.

“Good evening students.” Dumbledor said loudly. “I hope you have a good time tonight.”

Everyone clapped as they started to eat. But Professor Quirrel rushed in the hall. Out of breathe and looks queasy.

“Troll in the dungeons thought you ought to know. He says then faints to the ground.

There was a uproar as people started getting up and yelling. But Dumbledor silenced everyone with some fire works from his wand.

“Prefects.” He rumbled. “Lead your houses back to your dormitories immediately.

The slytherin prefect had started leading them out of the hall. When someone grabbed ahold of Max’s robe and quickly dragged her out of sight.

“What the hell.” She said turning around.

“Sorry.” Charis says quickly.

“We are supposed to be going back to our rooms char.” Max says as she starts walking towards the slytherin group.

“Just wait.” He says. “Don’t you want to see the troll.”

“Char we can’t.” Max says as she pulls on his robes.

“Oh cmon Max. I know you want to see it.” He says with a grin.

Dammit why was she so curious. It was just a troll. That she might not see for years.

“Damn you black.” She says as they make there way to find the troll.

He just chuckles as the sneak around the halls quietly. They had walked towards where Professor Quirell had said. They smelled a rancid smell. But couldn’t hear anything until they heard big stomps coming from the girls bathroom. They started running towards the sound as they saw the troll head into the bathrooms.

“Holy shit.” They say together.

“It’s bigger then I thought.” Max says quietly.

Before charis could answer two boys ran into them.

“Oi watch yourselves.” Charis says in a angry tone.

“Sorry.” Harry Potter answers.

“Potter.Weasley. What are you doing here.” Charis asks.

“Hermione in there.” Harry says.

“The Granger girl?” Max asks.

“Yes.” Ron answers.

“Well I’d say she’s in trouble.” Said Charis.

“Why.” Harry asks.

“The troll just walked in there.” Max says with a gulp.

“Oh no.” They say quickly as they start running towards the bathroom.

Max knew she should just turn around and go back to her dorm. But something stopped her. They definitely needed help. I mean it was a freaking troll. She started running after them.

“Where are you going.” Charis yells.

“To fight a troll.” She shouts back.

He was on her tail in a instant. As they ran into the bathroom. They had no idea what would play out.
The Granger girl was shrinking against the wall, looking as if she was about to faint. The troll was going towards her. Knocking the sinks off the walls as it went.

“Confuse it!” Max yells desperately to Ron and seizing a tap, he threw it as hard as he could against the wall.

The troll stopped a few feet from The Granger girl. It just stood there blinking stupidly, to see what had made the noise. Its mean little eyes saw Harry. It hesitated for a moment then made for him instead lifting its club as it went.

“Oy, pea-brain!” yelled Charis from the other side of the chamber and he threw a metal pipe at it. The troll didn’t even seem to notice the pipe hitting its shoulder. But it did hear the yell and paused again turning its ugly snout toward Charis instead giving Harry time to run around it.

“Come on. Run. Run Granger!” Max yelled at Hermione trying to pull her toward the door but she couldn’t move. She just stood there flat against the wall with her mouth open with terror.

“Oh you stupid girl.” Max says angrily as she starts pulling her.

The shouting and the echoes seemed to be driving the troll berserk. Max and Charis started yelling making the troll even more confused. As it tumbled around the room. It roared again and started toward Max. She was closest and had no way to escape. Then Harry did something that was both very brave and very stupid. He took a great running jump and managed to fasten his arms around the troll’s neck from behind. Max gasped. The troll started howling in pain as it noticed Harry’s wand up its nose. It started twisted and swinging its club around with Harry hanging on for dear life. Any second and the troll was going to rip him off max thought. Hermione had sunk to the floor in fright. Max tried to get her up but she wouldn’t budge.

“Wingardium Leviosa!” Ron said as he pulled out his wand.

The club flew suddenly out of the troll’s hand and started to rise higher up into the air then turned slowly over and dropped. With a loud crack onto the trolls head. The troll swayed for a moment before it fell flat on its face. With a huge thud that made the whole room tremble. Max saw Ron just standing there in shock with his wand still up. Before anyone could speak. Charis had grabbed Max’s hand as was pulling her out of the bathroom. They ran and hid behind a tarp. Then they heard footsteps and voices coming towards them. The Professors were going straight to the bathrooms. Where all the noise was had come from. As soon as they heard the door shut. Charis and her we’re running back to the dungeons. As fast as they could. Charis shouted the password. And they barrelled into the common room. They saw six faces looking back at them.

“Where in the bloody hell were you lot.” Theo says with a confused face.

“Oh please tell me you didn’t go after the troll.” Astoria says worried.

Max and Charis just stand there catching there breathe.

“Of course they did. Have you met them.” Mal says as she passes them both a glass of water.

“Are you okay.” Enzo asks still a bit stunned.

Max just nods and sits down beside him.

“We ran into Potter and Weasley. They were looking for that Granger girl. The troll had just walked into the girls bathroom with her.” Charis said.

“Why would you go help her?” Theo questions

Charis just points at Max. They all understood then. Of course Max would try and help them.

“What I wanted to fight a troll.” She says quickly.

“Did you?” Astoria asks.

“Yeah.” She answers.

By the time they had stopped asking questions. Max was ready for bed. She could barely keep her eyes open. She just layed in bed and thought about what just happened. Oh damn she thought. I never even got to have another Pumpkin pastie.

“Damn you troll” she says quietly. As she drifts to sleep.

November/ 13th/1991

Max woke up to a owl pecking on the window. She opened it and the owl flew in.

“Strix I thought we talked about this.” She said as she sat down beside him.

Strix was Max’s owl since hogwarts said it was mandatory to have a pet. I mean who could blame her for picking an owl. Out of the option they give. She hated cats and who would want a rat scurrying around. So her father bought her this owl. Of course it had to be black though. Goodness forbid he gets anything with Color. Strix dropped a letter on her bed and took off. Only one person made her owl bring the letter straight to her. Her father.
Max,

Find other arrangements for winter break. You may not come home.

Great. She assumed she wouldn’t but now she has to find somewhere else. No way could she go to the Malfoy’s. She and Draco weren’t even speaking. Don’t even get her started on having to see him and Daphne together outside of school. Her mothers cottage was still in her name. She could go there. She would not be one of those people to stay at Hogwarts at Christmas.

As Binns went on about the soap blizzard of 1378. It sounded sort of cool. But who could listen to Binns rant on in his monotone voice. I mean half the class was already sleeping. She was trying to take some notes. She had to good on his mid term exam. She had no idea how people kept up with this. Let alone remembered it all. Adrian wouldn’t stop distracting her. Didn’t he know she was buys. Ugh.

“Adrian.” She hissed well giving him the stink eye.

“Yes Max.” Adrian said with a grin.

“I’m trying to listen.” She said quietly.

“Oh cmon who pays attention in this class anyway.” He says as he grabs her notes.

“If you don’t mind. I do.” Max say quickly while she grabs her notes back.

“You’ll do fine on the exam.” He says with a yawn.

“Easy for you to say. You remember everything.” She says as she jots down some more notes.

He doesn’t bother her anymore till class is over and they are on their way to DADA.

“So how was the note taking.” He says with a chuckle.

“Wonderful she says with sarcasm.

Enzo walks up to them.

“I just caught up on some much needed beauty sleep.” He said with a yawn.

“That what I would have been doing if I couldn’t here Max scribbling down on her paper every five minutes.” Adrian says as he pats him on the back.

“Max why were you paying attention?” He asks

“Some people would like to pass their exams.” She says with a huff.

“Oh you’ll do great.” Enzo says with a smile.

“I don’t think so.” She says as she sits down beside Jo in DADA.

Here’s to another awkward class.

“Max.” Jo says quietly.

“Yes.” She says with surprise.

“I want to apologize.” Jo says quickly. “I shouldn’t have let her do what she did.”

“It’s okay. I don’t care anymore.” Max says as she flips through her holdiday with hags book.

“I was a shitty friend.” She says quickly.

“I know.” Max says looking at her. “But everyone makes mistakes.”

“Could I make it up to you?” She asks.

“I guess.” Max says with a smile.

“How about this weekend at Hogsmeade?” Jo asks.

“Okay.” Max answers.

It wouldn’t be that bad she thought. Jo could be kind when she wanted to. Max had missed her little fights with her.

Max started to eat her grapes when no other then Josephine Carrow sits beside her.

“Hello.” She says as she grabs a orange juice.

“You really wanna make things up.” Max says with a laugh.

“Yes I do.”she says.

I guess she could let her try right. Before she could answer Theo sits down in front of her. Looks between her and Jo. And raises his eyebrows at Max.

“What is this?” He asks curiously.

“We are friends again.” Max says as she pops a grape into her mouth.
“Yeah.” Jo answers with a smile.

“Okay.” Theo said confused.

As she walks out on the grounds. She spots Astoria and rans over with Jo on her tail.

“Well hello ladies.” Astoria says with a laugh as the run into her.

“Hi.” Jo says a bit shy.

“So I make it you to are but to biting at each others throats.” She asks as she looks between them.

“Something like that.” Max answers as she grabs a broom.

They quick off the ground and start flying to the quidditch stands. Max and them get off on the Slytherin stand. They are technically supposed to be keeping in a short distance off the teacher but who could blame them for wanting some privacy. They know how to fly.

“So.” Astoria says awkwardly.

“Oh cmon. Don’t make this awkward.” Max says. “We stopped being friends for just a few weeks. Let’s forgopet it every happened.”

“Okay.” Astoria says with a laugh.

“Thanks Max.” Jo said.

“I mean how could I stay mad at you Carrow. Remember that one time I took your doll. You forgave me then.” Max says laughing.

“Max that was when we were seven.” She says with a smile.

“Maybe I’ll always be seven in my heart.” Max says as she looks at her. “Besides we are still a party. Even if it’s a bit cracked.”

“You Max have a Heart big enough for twenty people.” Astoria says as she hugs her.

“Oh don’t be so mushy.” Max says as she pretends to be sick.

They finish off the class laughing and giggling.

In Herbology Enzo and Adrian wouldn’t stop asking her about Jo. Theo couldn’t keep anything from them to save his life.
“We are friends okay.” Max says annoyed.

“Okay we will drop it.” Enzo says finally.

Professor Sprout started talking about Asphodel. A flower in the lily family. The professor had grown rows of them. She was teaching them how to grow them. Max thought they were beautiful. Enzo had picked on an put it in her hair. Making her blush.

“Beautiful.” He whispered.

She quickly gave him a kiss on the cheek. While no one was looking.

Max had walked to the library after class. She sat in the back behind all the bookcases. It was one of her favourite spots. That Granger girl sometimes sat on the other side. But it was just silent between them when she did besides a hello or goodbye. Today instead of Granger. Luna lovegood took a seat in front of her.

“Good afternoon Max.” She said as she smiled at her.

People talked about Luna a lot. Some kids had started calling her Looney Lovegood. But she didn’t seem to mind the name.

“Hi Luna.” She answered.

“How was Herbology.” She asked.

How does Luna know her class she thought. They split it with the Gryfindors that slot.

“Pretty good. How did you know?” She questions

“I know a lot of things.” She replied.

“I don’t think I’ve seen you in the library before.” Max says

“Yeah I was actually looking for you.” Said Luna.

“Oh what for?” Max asks.

“I just wanted to talk to you.” She said in a nice tone.

“Okay.” Max says with a smile.

“You know.” Luna pauses. “You’re the first person not to call me Looney Lovegood.”

“Well I don’t think your Looney. Besides your name is Luna.” Max says.

Luna just smiles.

“I should be asking why your talking to a Slytherin.” Max adds.

“Not all Slytherin are mean.” She says softly.

Luna started talking to her about Moon frogs. Max mentioned how Enzo talks about the moon all the time. She should mention them to him. People always said not to believe Luna. But Max thought it was a good thing to believe in things.

When she got back to her dorm she saw Strix had left her another letter. Why would her father write her twice?

Dear Maxine,

My father told me about how you weren’t coming
home for Christmas. I was wondering what your winter
break plans were. My father has not requested my
presence either.

Damn the Macintosh family and the wonderful non existent Christmas spirit. She quickly wrote him back.

Dear Sammy,

I was going to stay at my mothers cottage. You are welcome
to come stay their with me. Invite Chris and your brother.

She called Strix and taped it to his leg. Giving him a little snack for the fly. Maybe she wouldn’t be alone for Christmas after all. Samuel was just a year older then her and went to ilvermorny. She would much rather prefer her asking Chris.

November/15th /1991

Today was the first Quidditch game of the season. Gryffindor vs Slytherin. Max got all bundled up with Ashley and started out towards the Quidditch stands. She was just passing Draco and Blaise as she stopped.

“Good luck.” She said to both of them

“Thank you Max.” Blaise said.

Draco just gave her a smile.

As she was walking away Blaise stopped her.

“Will I see you two after the game.” He asks.

“Of course.” Ashley answers.

They headed off towards the stands. When Max bumped into Ashley with a grin.

“So.” She said.

“Nothing.” Ashley said with a blush.

“He likes you.” Max tells her.

“No he doesn’t. He stopped you not me.” Ashlynn says.

“You make him nervous. Plus I’ve known him longer then you. He is more comfortable with me.” Max says with a shrug.

“Are you sure.” Ashlynn says.

“Yes. He is just a quiet person. Don’t worry.” Max reassures her.

“I would’ve thought he liked pansy.” She said quietly.

“He definitely doesn’t.” Max says. “ he hangs out with her because of Draco.”

“Well she likes him then.” Ashley says.

“No she doesn’t.” Said Max. “You think she follows Daphne around like a puppy dog for Blaise.”

“Wait.” Ash looks at her with big eyes. “You think she likes Daphne?”

“Yeah.” Max adds. “You think they’d be good together?”

“Yeah they are both snippy.” Ashley laughs.

They take their seats in the front row. Enzo plops down beside her not long later.

“Hello Love.” He says with a smile.

“Hi Enzo.” She blushes.

She could hear the rest of the party sit down behind them. As she looks around the booth. She pots Daphne making eye contact with her. Then she did something Max never thought she would do. She smiled. Max just awkwardly smiled back. And turned to watch the start of the game. Madam Hooch gave a loud blast on her silver whistle. Fifteen brooms rose up high in the air. Then they were off.

“And the Quaffle is taken immediately by Angelina Johnson of Gryffindor. What an excellent Chaser that girl is and rather attractive, too”

“JORDAN!” McGonagall shouted

“Sorry, Professor.” He says quickly

“And she’s really belting along up there, a neat pass to Alicia Spinnet. A very good find on Oliver Wood’s part,last year only a reserve. Back to Johnson and no. The Slytherins have taken the Quaffle. Slytherin Captain Marcus Flint gains the Quaffle and off he goes. Flint starts flying like an eagle up there. He’s going to score wait no. He was stopped by an excellent move by the Gryffindor Keeper Wood and the Gryffindors take the Quaffle. That’s Chaser Katie Bell of Gryffindor right there. Nice dive around Flint and off up the field. OUCH. That must have hurt. Hit right in the back of the head by a Bludger. The Quaffle taken by the Slytherins again. There is Tracy Davis speeding off toward the goal posts. But she’s blocked by a second Bludger. Sent her way by Fred or George Weasley. I can’t tell which. That was a nice play by the Gryffindor Beater. And Johnson back in possession of the Quaffle. A clear field ahead and off she goes. Come on now Angelina. The Keeper Bletchley dives. Misses.GRYFFINDORS SCORE!”

Gryffindor cheers filled the cold air. While Max and friends Groan.

“Damn.” Enzo says.

“Fuck. The beaters should have watched Davis’s back.” Max mummurs.

Before Max could make anymore comments Slytherin got the Quaffle.

“Slytherin in possession,” Lee Jordan was saying, “Chaser Davis ducks two Bludgers, two Weasleys, and Chaser Bell, and speeds toward the. Wait a moment. Was that the Snitch?”

Max saw Davis drop the Quaffle.

“Damn pay attention.” She yelled.

Max saw Harry start to dive. Draco saw it to as they were neck and neck heading towards the Snitch. The stupid chasers forgot what they were doing. Idiots she thought. Damn it Harry was faster. It came out of no where. Marcus had just blocked Harry. His broom started to spin out of control. Max heard the Gryffindors yell foul. She just laughed with her friends. She briefly saw Madam hooch speak angrily to Flint. She just gave the Gryffindors a free shot on the goal post. BULLSHIT. Harry should’ve watched himself. Max looked around to see where the Snitch had went but it disappeared. They heard Dean Thomas shout send him off.

“Oh shut up you filthy mud blood.” Jason yelled.

The Slytherin stand erupted in laughter.

“All right. All right. Flint nearly kills the Gryffindor Seeker. Which could happen to anyone. I’m sure, so a penalty to Gryffindor. Taken by Spinner, who puts it away, no trouble and we continue play. Gryffindor still in possession.” Lee says fast.

“He would’ve been fine.” Max says.

“Yeah barely touched him.” Ashley adds.

Max saw Harry dodge a bludger. Then his broom started to do something weird. It started to lurch forward. His broom started to buck him again.

“What the fuck.” Max says.

“Looks like Potters broom doesn’t like him.” Theo laughs.

His broom started zigzagging all over the place.

“Slytherin in possession. Flint with the Quaffle. Passes Spinnet. Passes Bell. Hit hard in the face by a Bludger. Hope it broke his nose. Only joking Professor. Slytherins score.”

Max and the Slytherins stand up and start cheering. No one noticed Harry’s broom yet except Max and Theo. It started to carry him up higher. Jerking him around. The. Everyone started pointing at Harry and his broom. Max could hear all the Slytherin laughing.

“Flint must’ve hit him good.” He heard an older boy laugh.

But it didn’t seem like something a kid could do. Max started looking around until she spotted Something weird.

“Adrian pass me your binoculars.” Max says quickly.

“Okay.” He says as he drops them in her lap.

She puts them up to her eyes and pears through them. And sees Professor Snape. He muttering and has his eyes on Potter.

“Look at Professor Snape.” Max says as she passes them to Enzo.

He peers through them. Takes him a second.

“What he fuck.” He says.
“Wasn’t Marcus after all.” She says.

They both look keep looking at Snape. Until they see he’s caught fire. Harry then starts speeding towards the ground and lands abruptly. He’s on all fours looking like he is about to be sick.

“What the hell.” Max stares.

Then he shouted he has the snitch.

“Fuck.” She hears people say.

A lot of people groaning and saying the game with bullshit.

“He didn’t catch it he nearly swallowed it.” Marcus yelled.

“Yeah.” The Slytherins shout.

But apparently it made no difference. He didn’t “break any rules”.”

“Bullshit.” Adrian yells.

Max and Ashley walk down into the field. Blaise runs over to them.

“Hi Ashley.” He says with a smile.

“Hello.” She says shyly.

“I see you were just a backup today.” Max says.

“Yeah just in case.” He says. “I’ll probably play next game. Marcus won’t want Davis playing chaser for awhile.”

“That for sure.” He says walking up behind them.

“That was a bullshit.” Max says to him

“Yeah I barely touched him.” Marcus replies

“Right. He should learn to watch where he’s going.” Max says.

“Yeah.” Marcus answers.

“Potters just a baby.” Adrian chimes in.

“Bye Max.” Marcus says as he starts walking away walks away.

On their way to the dungeons Ashlynn has plenty to say.

“He asked me if I’d like to go to Hogsmeade with him.” She smiles.

“Oh my god. That’s great.” Max says excitedly.

“I saw Marcus looking at you.” She grins.

“Ashley.” Max sighs. “ we were just talking.”

“Sure.” She rolls her eyes

November/ 16th/1991

Max was ready to go to Hogsmeade. She needed to get away from the castle. She met with Josephine outside of her rooms. They started out on their walk.
As soon as they were past the castle bounds. It started snowing. Max just smiled as she linked arms with Jo.

“It’s going to be a great day.” She said to Jo.

Jo smiled as they continued walking.

By the time the made it to The Three Broomsticks it was packed. They found a small booth at the back and order two butterbeers.

“I can’t believe it almost winter break.” Jo said as she sipped her drink.

“Yeah I’m excited.” Max answered with a smile.

“What are your plans?” She asks.

“I’m going to my cottage.” Max said.

“Oh cool. Is your dad going as well?” She questioned.

“You know he wouldn’t step foot in there.” She says quickly. “My cousins are joining me there.”

“Right sorry. Your cousins from ilvermorny?” She asks.

“Yeah .” Max says quickly. “What are your plans.”

“Well you know my dad.” She weakly smiles.

“Yeah there is not a lot of Christmas spirit within our families.” Max said laughing.

They both broke out into a laugh.

“I think I’m just going home for a tiny visit. My mom is out in France again.” Jo said sadly.

“That sucks.” Max said squeezing her hand. “Maybe you could come stay at the cottage for a few days.”

“Really.” Jo asks.

“Yeah I wouldn’t mind a girl amongst the boys.” Besides everyone should have a good Christmas even if we have to make it ourselves.”

They continued planning out their winter break. Josephine lettered her father asking for permission to spend Christmas break with Max. He wouldn’t say no. He loved Alector Macintosh.

By the time they got back to the castle,it was dark. Max took a seat in the common room. Jo went to her room. She had been tired. Enzo came in and sat down beside her.

“Hello Max.” He said as he sat down.

“Good evening.” She says.

“How was Hogsmeade with Jo.” He questions.

“Really amazing. We had way to many butter beers though.” She says with a laugh.

He chuckles. “What did you guys do?”

“Just the usual. Honeydukes and got some new quills.” She says looking at him. “What did you do?”

“I just went to Honeydukes with Adrian and then came back. I had some homework.” He says with a smile. “Mattheo seems to be dating Romilda.”

“I saw them drinking tea.” Max says as she starts laughing.

“Yeah all the couples go there.” He says looking at her. “Maybe you’d want to join me there sometime.”

“You know I would.” Max says blushing.

And that’s when it happened. He started leaning in as he touched her cheek. Then there lips touched. She doesn’t know how long they did that. But after awhile they said their good nights. As Max layed in bed she couldn’t believe it. She had just snogged Lorenzo Berkshire. In the common room of all places.

As Max woke up she rushed out of bed. She had overslept . Damn she would have to skip breakfast and go straight to potions. She cursed at herself as she ran out of her room. As she ran into the class it had almost started. She quickly went and sat beside Theo. He slipped her a Apple. She just smiled. They would never quit protecting her she thought. By the time Snape had stopped talking. They were ready to start brewing. He had told them to flip to page 45 of their potion books. Sleeping draught needed some neettle essence which Theo went to go get. She had just added 4 sprigs of Lavender. Before she was interrupted by Enzo.

“Hello love.” He said with a grin.

“Enzo.” Max said with a smile.

“I heard they are letting us take a trip to Hogsmeade on the 5th.” He said quickly.

“Is that an invitation Berkshire.” She said with a smirk.
“Yes. Max would you go to Hogsmeade with me.” He asks looking into her eyes.

“Yes.” Max answered. “Of course.”

By the time Theo came back. Enzo and her were laughing.

“Trying to spike my potion Enzo.” He said with a raised brow.

“No it’s partially Max’s. I wouldn’t ruin hers.” He said with a smile as he looked at her.

That’s when Theo noticed something changed between them. Well finally he thought. He couldn’t wait tell Mattheo.

Lunch came around and she sat with Enzo and Theo. As soon as Mattheo sat down. Theo whispered something to him. Then he looked between them and laughed. Oh that dirty little dog.

“Theo.” Max said

“Yes Max.” He said with a grin.

“You know what.” She said.

“I was just informing our friend her of the new relationship status.” He said as he laughed.

Both boys started laughing as she glanced at Enzo and blushed.

“Oi knock it off.” Enzo said hitting Theo’s head.

“Okay.We we’re just fooling around.” Said Mattheo as he raised his hands defensively.

McGonagall was going pretty tough on them in Transfiguration. More or so on the Slytherin’s. But I guess who could blame her. She started saying that they would have to transfigure a object. She had already set a date. The 11th. Max’s face went a bit white. Only two weeks she gulped.

By the time it was dinner time. Max was so tired. She had only two weeks to prepare for her exams. Professor Flitwick had told them they would have to animate a object. She thought she would be able to do that. She briefly saw Adrian sit down beside her.

“Max.” He said weakly.

“Yeah.” She looked up right away.

“Is it true.” He paused. “You and Enzo.”

“Yes.” She answered.

“When.” He asked.

“A couple days ago.” She said.

“Oh.” He said quietly. “Good for you guys.”

“Thanks.” Max says. “Are you okay?”

“Yeah just tired from today.” He says.

She knew one of them might be disappointed. But what could she do. It’s not like she could date all of them.

Maxine woke up to a peck at the window. Strix. She opened it and let him in. He dropped the letter on her bed.

Maxine got dressed as Astoria rose out of bed.

“Hey sleepy.” Max said.

“Morning.” Astoria said with a yawn.

“I’ve got some news.” Max says excitedly.
“Get up” she yelled to Mal and Ash.

She heard a few groans before they were all sitting on Astoria’s bed.

“Guess who I am going to Hogsmeade with?” She says with excitement.

“It’s either Theo, Enzo, or Adrian.” Mal answers.

“It’s drumroll please.” She says as Astoria drums on a book. “Enzo.”

“Oh my gosh Maxxxx.” Ashley screams.

They all start jumping and screaming. She needed this. They had been so busy lately. She hasn’t had the time to catch up with them.

“I knew he would ask you.” Mal says happily.

“Oh shut up.” Max retorts as she grins.

“What are you going to do?” Astoria asks.

“I have no idea. I’m a bit nervous.” Max says.

“Oh don’t be. It’s just Enzo.” Astoria said.

“Yeah I guess your right.” Max answers.

“How did they take it.” Astoria whispers as Ashley and Mal get dressed.

“Fine.” She said with a weak smile.

Max knew she was asking about Theo and Adrian.

In history Binns started saying the stuff that would be on their exam. They just had to answer question about the invention of the self stirring cauldron. Max could easily do that.

“At least it’ll be easy enough.” Adrian comments.

“Yeah I was expecting something much harder but I guess it’s just midterm.” Max says.

Binns starts going on about some old wizard..blah blah blah. Darkness. Max had fallen asleep at her desk.

“Max.” She felt someone poke her. Poke her again. Another poke.

“What.” She says dryly
“Class is over we have to go to DADA.” Adrian says as he pulled her up.

Professor Quirell wasn’t having a midterm. She actually started to like him last his stutter after that comment. She could tell everyone relaxed. Max just grinned a little. She didn’t have to take it seriously anymore till after Christmas.

“Jo.” Max whispered.

“Max.” She whispered back.

“I’m bored.” Max said with a face.

“Me too.” Jo answers. “ I heard about you and Enzo.”

Fuck she thought can no one keep quiet.

“Yeah.” She grinned back.

“He’s good for you.” She smiled.

“Oh don’t go there.” Max pauses. “Joey.”

“Alright. Alright.” Jo says quickly.

Their class ended and she ran to the library. She needed to study a bit on history. Before Lunch was over. But when she arrived at her table she found Luna.

“Hey Luna.” She said as she sat down.

“Hello Max.” She answers.

“Did you see the new quibbler.” Luna asks.

“No I don’t subscribe.” Max answers.

“Oh. Take mine.” She says as she passes it to her.

“Thank you.” Max says with a smile as she buys it in her bag. “How was your classes?”

“Good thank you.” Luna says with a smile. “Do you have a lunch.”

“No I was just going to look over some notes before my flying lessons.” Max says.

“Ok. Here.” She says as she puts half her sand which in front of Max.

“Thanks.”

Max ended up missing her afternoon class’s because her and Luna went looking for Nargles outside around the forest. They may have went a bit to far into the forest but no one would know. As she walks into the dining hall someone grabs her.

“Max. Where were you.” Enzo asked.

“I fell asleep in the library over lunch.” She shrugged.

“Oh okay.” He said even thought he didn’t believe her.

December/5th/1991

Max woke up with nervous jitters, all throughout her body. She couldn’t believe that she was going to Hogsmeade with Enzo. Lorenzo Berkshire. It felt so unreal. But she didn’t even have more time to think when Astoria jumped on her.

“Get up. He’s waiting outside.” She said.

“Oh no.” Max jumps out of bed and gets ready quickly.

Astoria check her up down at least 20 times before she makes it out the door. As she opens the door she finds Enzo standing there.

“Well hello there love.” He said with a smile. Max’s stomach couldn’t contain the butterflies.

“Hi Enzo.” She said shyly.

“Ready to go?” He asks as he holds out his arm.
“Yes.” She said as she links her arm with his.

The walk was rather quiet until. Max started to shiver and Enzo immediately cast a warming spell on her cloak.

Max quietly said. “Thank you.”

“Of course.” He said with a quiet tone.

Hopefully she wasn’t the only one between them. They reached Madam Puddifoot’s Tea Shop. Enzo and her rushed right in to get out of the cold. They found a small table near the back of the room and sat down. Enzo ordered them both a tea and a tray of cookies.

“Are you nervous too.” He said looking at her.

“Yes obviously.” She answers.

“I don’t know why we’re nervous. We spend time together everyday.” He said quickly.

“I suppose but not time like this.” She says nervously.

Madam Puddifoot floated their tea and cookies over to their table. Max grabbed a cookie right away. And started eating it. Enzo just laughs.

“What.” She asks with big eyes.

“Your just so beautiful.” He said as he stared into her eyes.

“Enzo.” She said with a shake of her head.

“What I can’t say how pretty my girlfriend is?” He questioned.

“Girlfriend?” She says.

“If you want to be.” He says with a grin.

“Hmmm Mr Berkshire’s girlfriend. I kinda like the sound of that.”She says with a small giggle.

“Maxine’s boyfriend.” He repeats three times. “Has a ring to it.” He just smiles .

Max blushes and looks out the window. Adrian and Theo are passing by she gives a small smile and looks back at Enzo.

Theo’s Pov:

“How does he always get the girls.” Theo says with a sigh.

“It’s his eyes. No his hair.” Adrian says with a laugh.
“Oh cmon Adrian you know what I mean.” Theo says looking at him.

“I don’t know. Okay.” He says shortly.

“You like her still don’t you.” Theo asks.

Adrian doesn’t answer as they continue walking.

“You don’t?” He asks.

“Not since the beginning of the year.” Theo answers. “Aren’t you a little bit jealous?”

“Not so much. Just disappointed.” Adrian says with a frown.

“Mate we have to find ourselves some chicks or are you into blokes?” Theo questions.

“Theo.” He says annoyed.

“What I would still love you man.” Theo says with a grin.

“Do you think she really wanted to go with Enzo. Or just said yes how she did with Jason.” Adrian asks.

“I’m not sure. I mean she friends with both of them.” He says. “Maybe she had feelings for both of them.”

“Maybe.” Adrian whispers. “Can you not tell Enzo about this.”

“I wasn’t even going to say anything.” Theo says.

By the time Enzo and her finish their teas. It two o’clock and they are on there way back to the castle.

“I heard there is a quidditch game the day before we leave.” Enzo says.

“Really.” Max asks.

“Yeah, Blaise is playing. He talked to me about it.” He says.

“That is great. What position.” She asks.

“Chaser. He is replacing Davis for the game.” He says with a laugh.

“He told me that would happen.” She says as she laughs with him.

Max and Enzo are passing a empty classroom as he pulls her in.
He gently kisses her and she just looks up at him.

“Well well well Mr Berkshire.” She says with a grin.

“Yes Mrs Macintosh.” He says with a smirk.

She just sticks her tongue out at him and starts running. She hears him start laughing as he chases her.

“Maxine.” He shouts.

“Catch me if you can.” She yells back.

“Oh I will.” He shouts.

Max runs all the way to the lake before he catches her. He lands right on her and they tumble down the hill. As soon as they look at each other. They break into laughter. Max starts making a snow angel.

“ What are you doing?” He ask with a laugh.

“Snow angel.” She said as she stands.

He looks at it with a raised brow before he is on the ground doing the same thing. She just smiles. By the time they make it back inside it’s seven o’clock. Enzo walks her to her door and kisses her forehead before she goes inside.

“Goodnight Enzo.” She says.

“Good night.” He relies.

As she shuts the door. She hears giggles. She turns around and sees Ashley and Astoria on her bed waiting for her.

“Girls.” She says as she changes.

“So.” Ashley asks. “ how was it?”

“It was.” She pauses. “Amazing.”

They all start giggling as she explains her day with Enzo. By the time she’s done. She asking Ashley about Blaise.

“He’s invited me to come watch.” She said as she blushes.

“Aww that’s great.” Max says.

“He’s taking things rather slowly compared to you an Enzo.” Ashley says.

“Well Enzo and I have known each other since we were born.” Max says.
“True I guess he is just getting to know me.” Ashley answers.

“I think it’s good to go slow.” Astoria says. “ sometimes going to fast ruins it.”m

“Yeah exactly.” Max adds.

As Max crawls into bed. She wonders about what Astoria said. Sometimes going to fast ruins it. That couldn’t happen to her and Enzo she thought right?”

December/ 9th/1991

Max woke with a start to Mal yelling.

“Don’t touch my stuff.” She shouts.

“Don’t touch my stuff.” Ashley yells back.

Max opens the curtain. To find a wide eyes Astoria. Looks like she wasn’t the only one who woke with a start.

“What’s going on?” Max yawns.

“She keeps touching my stuff.” Mal yells.

“Just shut up.” Astoria yells.

Before they knew it all of them were screaming at each other.

“Who is on their periods.” Max shouts.

They all look at her and nod.

“Oh for bloody hell.” Mal says.

“Let’s go eat now.” Max says urgently.

They open the door to find Jo, Daphne, and Pansy. All looking quite cranky. Great Max thought we are all lined up.

“You guys too.” Pansy says cranky.

“Sadly.” Max says in annoyed tone.

They all walk to the dining hall. Everyone steers clears of their group as they match into the hall. As they sit down they all grab the a chocolate donut. Max looks around for the ginger ale. No one very drinks it. She sees it sitting down at the end of the table full. She grabs it and brings it over. The girls all take some and eat in silence. When the boys walk in and see them all together. Enzo sits down beside Max.
Before he can even say anything Pansy is snapping on Draco.

“What the fuck.” Draco says.

Uh oh Max thought. Three girls shout at him and he raises his hand and goes to sit near Crabbe. Enzo looks at her.

“Walk on eggshells for the next week.” She whispers.

He nods his head and starts eating. He about to grab a donut when Max shakes her head and gives him a muffin instead. He eats it without saying anything.

Potions was so long Max was ready to get out of there. Snape wouldn’t tell them the potion they would be brewing for their exam which pissed her off. She decided to go to the library. She guessed it would be hell in the dining room. She spots Luna at their spot and sits down.

“Hi Luna.” She said with a smile.

“I suspect very girl is on their blood days.” She said as she dropped her book.

Max nearly chokes on her spit.

“Blood days.” She questions.

“Her women days.” Luna comments.

Max had never heard that before. She was always learning new things from her. Max had also noticed she didn’t have many friends beside her. It made her a bit sad because Luna was a interesting person.

“Your my kindred spirit.” She says with a smile.

Luna just smiles then says “I never thought I’d have a kindred spirit. But Max your definitely mine.”

Every since Luan started sitting her. It’s like they just go together and they can talk about anything for hours. They believe in the same things and have very open minds.

“That’s just odd”. Luna points. Max looks at the pile of books she is pointing at.

“Nargles.” they say at the same time.

The book was torn and was missing about 10 pages.

“Luna do you like someone.” She asks as she pulls out some candy.

“I like you.” She says.

“I mean someone you would want to snog.” Max says.

“Not at the moment ask me in a few hours.” She answers.

“You want to snog Enzo.” She said

“I would hope so.” Max answers. “He is my boyfriend.”

“Why Enzo.” She asks.

“Well he has great hair and he’s been my friend forever it just sorta works.” Max says with a shrug.

“What kind of soul does he have?” Luna asks.

“A kind one.” Max answers.

They continue talking about the quidditch game coming up it Ravenclaw vs Slytherin. One thing Luna noticed since becoming friends with Max. Is that no one calls her looney love good anymore. She knows it has something to do with Max. Even though she won’t admit to it. Luna can’t helps but feel very lucky to have become friends with Max.

“Over Christmas break would you like to come over for tea.” Luna asks.

“Of course.” Max answers. “I’m dying to see your house.”

“It is pretty cool.” Luna answers with a dreamy smile.

“We better part ways.” Max says as she gets up lunch is nearly over.

“Till next time.” Luna says as she walks off.

In Transfiguration McGonagall gave them a small multiple answer quiz. Supposedly what they are transfiguring on Friday is one of the answers. She decides she’ll just study it all. By the time they go to charms. Max sits down and no one other then Draco Malloy sits beside her.

“My mother sent me a letter.” He said looking at her. “You aren’t coming for Christmas?”
“Yeah I have other plans.” She responds.

“You know Daphne and I broke up.” He says.

Oh she didn’t know that but it was to late. The Malfoys always treated her with kindness. Like she was part of their family. Narcissa would be disappointed no doubt about her not coming.

“I decided to have Christmas with my cousins.” She says.

“Maybe you could come for tea?” He asks. “I know I’ve been horrible this semester. I’m trying to be better.”

“I know.” She said giving him some sympathy. “Some things take longer to heal. You really hurt me Draco.”

“I’m sorry Maxine.” He says

“I’ll come over for tea.” Max answers. “But don’t mention it to anyone.”

“Of course.” He says getting up.

“Stay.” Max says before she could shut her mouth.

Yikes she is going to get it later from Adrian and Enzo. She briefly sees them sit beside Theo. Oh well they can’t control everything.

“I heard your playing this Saturday.” Max says with a smile.

“Yes I’m pretty excited.” He answers.

“I would be too. Chaser right.” She asks.

“Yeah Marcus has got me doing so many drills.” He says tired.

“Your playing too?” Max asks Draco.

“Yeah seeker.” He answers.

“It should be a good game. I saw the Ravenclaw’s play against Gryffindor. They have skill.” Max says

“We have better skills.” Blaise mutters.

“I’m sure it’s skill you have.” Max says with a grin.

“Oi what are you implying Macintosh.” Blaise says with a look.

“Oh nothing.” She said laughing.

Max could feel four sets of eyes on her. Even Mattheo was angry for fucks sake. He was supposed to be on her side. She just continued trying to animate a object. It worked for a second. Blaise tried to help her.

“Thanks for the help today.” She told Blaise as she walked out of the room with him.

“Max can you do me a favour?” Blaise asked quietly.

“Sure.” She answered.

“Make sure Ashley comes to the quidditch game.” He says “I need to ask her something after.”

Finally she thought.

“Of course.” Max said as she squeezed his arm and walked over to the four stalkers.

“What was that Max.” Adrian asks.

“I was talking.” She answered.

“You know what he means.” Mattheo says.

“I can’t have friends.” She asks.

“He isn’t your friend.” Theo mutters.

“Who Draco or Blaise.” She asks.

“Draco.” Enzo says looking at her.

“He made a mistake.” She said

“Mistakes.” Adrian said roughly.

“If you made mistakes with me. Wouldn’t you want a second chance.” She asks.

“No if Fucked things up with you. I wouldn’t deserve another chances.” Theo says.

They all just nod.

“He’s family like a brother. This isn’t our first fight and it won’t be our last.” She said annoyed.

Mattheo was about to say something when she exploded.

They all just look at her.

They wouldn’t be bothering her for a while. She just smirks and walks to the dining hall. There was never a lot of people in right after class. She spotted Luna and went and sat down with her.

“Why hello.” Luna looks up. “Rough day?”

“About?” Luna asks.

“Boys.” She rolls her eyes.

“Ahh the quartet.” Luna says as she passes Max the buns.

“The what.” Max asks.

“The quartet.” Luna says. “Enzo, Theo,Adrian, and Mattheo.”

“Ohh.” Max just starts laughing.

She sees Enzo and them staring at her. Probably wondering why she is sitting with Luna. I guess she never mentioned her to them.

“They don’t know we’re friends.” Luna said.

“I forgot got they didn’t.” Max says “it’s okay that I’m sitting here right.”

“Yes of course.”Luna says quickly with a smile. “ I don’t have to sit alone.”

“You can always come sit with me.” Max says. “Or is the Slytherin table to scary.”

“I don’t think they would like me.” Luna says looking at them.

“Well fuck them I like you.” Max says annoyed.

“I know.” She says in a calming tone.

By the time they finish eating. Max walks Luna back to her dorm.

“Goodnight Max.” Luan says with a yawn. “ will I see you at lunch tomorrow?”

“Yeah I’ll be study my heart off though.” She said with a laugh. “Goodnight loons.”

“I like that name.” Luna said as she walked into the door.

Max just smiled and made her way to the dungeons. She went straight to her room so she wouldn’t have to see them. She had enough of them for one day. She saw Astoria snogging some boy in there room. So she quietly shut the door and went to Jo’s room. She found Mal and Ash in there with Daphne and Pansy.

“Saw the show too.” Mal said with a laugh.

“Yep.” Max says as she sits down on Jo’s bed.

“Been going on for an hour.” Ashley adds.

“Who it is?” Max asks.

“Some second year.” Daphne says.

“Good for her.” Max says.

“I saw your lost puppy looking for you.” Pansy says to her.

“Enzo?” Max asks.

She nods. As there is a knock on their door.

“I need some space.” Max said to Pansy as she got up to open the door.

“Yes.” Pansy said at the door.

“Is Max in there?” Enzo asks.

“No.” She answers.

“Do you know where she is.” He asks.

“Nope.” Pansy said shutting the door.

“Thanks.” Max said quietly

“Is that about you and Luna sitting together.” Daphne asks.

“I’m not sure.” Max said with a shrug.

“Why were you sitting with her.” Daphne asks.

“She is my friend.” Max answers.

“Okay.” She says.

They all knew enough to question her especially Daphne and Pansy. They were just getting on good terms again. They just talked about their exams the next day. Everyone was nervous. Josephine brought out her candy. They stayed up till midnight till they passed out.

Max woke up to someone kicking her in the face.

“Ow.” She said with a grumble.

“Sorry.” Josephine says with a yawn.

She headed straight to the dining hall. She needed caffeine. Her history midterm was today and she needed to do well. She also had her astronomy exam later. She needed to stay awake. As she reached the hall. She found Enzo and sat across from him.

“Good morning.” He says.

“Morning.” Max repiles.

“I looked for you last night.” He said.

“ I know.” She answers. “I was tired and I didn’t want to fight.”

“I’m sorry.” He said. “I shouldn’t have been mad. I know what Draco means to you.”

“It’s okay.” She says.

She starts pouring herself a cup of coffee. Enzo gives her a look.

“Just for today and tomorrow.” She says.

“Okay.” He nods.

Max walks into her History exam with a bit of nerves. As she starts her exam she glances at Adrian and mouthed good luck. He says you too. Hopefully she thought.

By the time the hour is done. Max has finished her exam. She takes a deep breathe and hands it in. She waits for Astoria at the door.

“How did you do?” She asks.

“I think I remembered every thing.” Max says with relief.

“Same.” Astoria says. “ about last night sorry.”

“It fine.had a nice slumber party with them.” Max says.

“That’s good you guys are friendly again right?” She asks.

“Yeah.” Max answers.

As she walks in DADA she is so happy Professor Quirrell decided against a midterm. They had learned some things but definitely not enough to have a test. Most people said his class was a easy. Which it was.

“How’d you do Macintosh.” Jo asks.

“Good very good.” She answers.

“Yeah same here.” She says. “I’m so ready to go to your cottage.”

“Yeah I need a break just a couple more exams.” Max said reassuringly.

After lunch she walks to the library to see Luna. She wanted to ask her how was her potions exam.
She spotted her at the end of the room. Talking with Ralph Scammander. He’s cute she thought maybe Luna liked him. She walked past them and sat at their table waiting for her to come sit down. When they finished talking Luna walked over.

“A hufflepuff. Huh.” Max said with raised brows.

“He was just asking about our exam after lunch.” She said defensively.

“You said I could ask you later.” Max says. “Do you want to snog anyone?”

“Max.” She said

“It’s just a question.” Max said. “Besides he is a nice boy.”

“Yeah I guess.” Luna said.

“How was your exam?” Max asks.

“Went alright.” She said unsure. “I’m not the best.”

“That’s okay nobody perfect.” Max said.

By the time lunch was over. Max had wished Luna luck with her Transfigurtaion and charms exam.

As she walked to her flying lessons. Enzo rushed over to her.

“How was your exam.” He asked.

“Went well. You?” She asks.

“Great.” He said out of breathe.

“Want to fly over to the bridge today?” Max asks.

He nods. As soon as they are in the sky. Max and him are speeding over to the bridge. They stop abruptly when they arrive.

“We’re you with Luna?” He asks.

“Yeah.” She answers.

“She is who you go off with?” He asks.

“Yeah. She is my friend.” Max answers.

“I’m not surprised.”Enzo said with a laugh.

“What does that mean.” She said with a smile.

“Just that you guys seem like you would be friends.” He says.

Herbology goes rather smoothly, Proffessor sprout talks about all the attributes of dittany. Max doesn’t pay to much attention. She is busy quizzing Adrian on Astronomy. The Map of Jupiter. The reason they were having their astronomy exam tonight is because the Ravenclaw’s and Hufflepuffs had theirs last night. The Professor didn’t want to make either class do it Friday night before the quidditch game. Max thought it was pretty nice thing to do.

As soon as it hits eight o’clock. They start making their way to the astronomy tower. Where they find Professor Sinistra has set up the room with telescopes. They silently look at the sky then write things down on their maps. It’s takes Max about a half an hour before she hands in her exam. She walks back to her dorm and goes straight to bed. She needed rest before her Potions exam.

December/ 11th/1991

She wakes up from a nightmare. Been a couple weeks since her last one. She check the time, only quarter after five. Damn and she thought she would be getting rest for her huge day. She decided to get dressed and write a letter. She calls strix. She arrives shortly after.

“Just wait a moment. Let me write it.” Max says as he flys over.

Dear Tiny,

I’ve decided to stay at the cottage for Christmas.
Meet me there on Sunday. Bring Boho.

If you didn’t know Tiny and Boho are Max’s house elves. There specifically hers. The older house elf’s deal with her father. They have always been her friends. She didn’t see why people treated them so badly. Max had asked them once if they ever wanted to stop working for her. But they just said they loved it. Max tried to give them a good life. Keeping them away from her father. She had seen his house elves. Not something she would ever want to happen to her friends. They usually just stayed away from him which Max instructed. She passed the letter to strix and he was off. She decided she could sneak of to the kitchens maybe they would let her have a cup of coffee. They were always nice to her when she snuck in for a midnight snack.

Potions exam seemed to be way less complicated then she had thought. They just had to remember how to brew a forgetfulness potion. Lots of people forgot but Max had taken a interest in it. Somehow managed to remember it all. Casually well no one was looking she would whisper to Theo the next ingredient. He on the other hand did not remember how it went. As class came to a end. Max and Theo rushed out. It felt so cramped in there. They start making their way to the hall. Surprised Max is very hungry.

“Thank you.” Theo said squeezing her hand.

“Of course.” She smiles.

“I wouldn’t have passed it without you.” He says.

“I know.” She laughs.

They continue laughing on their way to the Slytherin table where Enzo is already waiting.

“What’s got you two in laugh.” He questions.

“Oh nothing.” Max says as she sits down.

Before she knows it Ashley and Mal have rushed to sit beside her.

“To slow.” Ashley says to Enzo and Theo.

“We need girl time.” Mal says showing them off.

They just groan. Wave at Max and go sit with Charis at the end of the table.

“How was the exam.” Ashley asks her.

“Quite well. You?” She asks them both.

“Terrific.” “Great.” They respond.

They pile food on there plate. They all had Transfiguration needed all the strength.

“Tomorrow quidditch still?” Max questions.

“Yep.” Mal says with a stuffed face.

“I’m not sure.” Ashley says with a frown.

“Why not.” They say together.

“You have to go.” Max tells her.

“Why’s that?” Ashley asks.
“Blaise Invited you. He wants you there.” Max says.

“I guess.” She says.

“Great.” Mal says with a smile.

McGonagall had them turn a mouse into a snuff box. Max did it fairly quickly. She glanced over and saw Ronald Weasley had halfway turned his mouse into a box. It still had a nose and a tail. She just laughed as he tried to fix it. As the bell rung. She rushed to charms. It was almost the end of the day and she couldn’t wait for her holiday to begin. Sure she told Blaise she was going to his quidditch game. But after that home free. Or cottage free.

Professor Flit-wicks exam has by far been the easiest. Also the funniest. He had instructed them to make a pineapple dance across his desk. Max did it no problem. It even did a bit of a tango with the pencil. She made the professor laugh. No doubt she did a good job. Seamus finnigan somehow managed to explode his. How on earth was he prone to that. Almost every other week. She thought he did it.

By dinner time she was ready to pass out. It had been a long couple of weeks she just wanted to see her cousins and enjoy the holidays. As she was making her way out of the hall when a voice called her. Mattheo.

“Max.” He said.

“Yeah.” She says.

“I heard um I know it’s a bit late to ask but. Jo mentioned that she was uh staying with you over the break.” He says.

“Yep.” She says.

“It’s just that I can’t go home anymore.” He said shyly.

“Are you asking to spend the holidays with me riddle?” She said with a grin.

“Erm yes.” He said slightly embarrassed.

“Of course.” She said hugging him. “Your more then welcome.”

They talked about their plans on the walk back to the dungeons.

December/12th/1991

She woke up to Ashley shaking her.

“Yes.” Max said annoyed.

“Quidditch.” She said as she pulled her up.

“Right.” Max said with yawn.

As she was getting dressed she wondered who would win. As she exited the castle. She sees Luna walking ahead of her.

“Luna.” Max yells.

She turns around and looks hazily at Max.

“Good morning Max. Wonderful day for Quidditch.” She chimes.

“Yes wonderful day indeed.” Max says as she links arms with her.

“I wonder who will win.” Luna says talking to herself.

She did that a lot. Max didn’t mind. Thinking out loud is nice sometimes.

“See you afterwards.” Max says as they split ways.

Luna waves and continues on to the Ravenclaw stand.

The games about to start and Max sees Lee Jordan is doing the announcing again.

“Ugh.” Max groans.

“What.” Astoria asks.

“Jordan is talking again. He’s biased he doesn’t like Slytherin.” Max says.

“Bullshit. You don’t see them every letting a Slytherin student do it.” She grumbles.

“Is Astoria jealous.” Max beams. “You would like to announce?”

“I wouldn’t be opposed.” She snarks back.

“Ok ok.” Max says with her hands up.

Jordan starts commenting.

“Ravenclaw vs Slytherin.” He shouts.

Fifteen players mount their brooms. She spots Blaise and Draco amount them.

“Now I want a nice clean game.” Madam hooch yells“You hear?”

They all nod. Madam hooch blows her whistle and there off. She see Marcus start off with the Quaffle.

“And Marcus flint has the Quaffle. He’s flying towards the goal. Never mind. Roman cuts him off stealing the Quaffle. Fred or George Weasley sends a ball his way. Nice one.” He comments. “ Roman dodges it and flys straight for Page Grant. He throws it. Damn misses. Grant picks it up and sends it towards Roger Davies. He speeds of towards. Miles Bletchley gets ready. Peregrine Derrick sends a ball towards Davies but he dodges. He Sends the Quaffle straight towards the goal. And SCORES.”

All the stands but Slytherin go up in cheers.Max hears most of the boys groan. Then of course JJ starts yelling. Piss off she thinks.

“The Quaffle gets passed to Cassius Warrington. He speeds to the goal and he takes his shot. Sadly it gets in.”

Max stands up and starts chanting his name. Don’t fuck around with Max watching the game. She sees him speed pass and wave. Max doesn’t it know it but there is a pair of very jealous eyes on her back. The game continues on for hours until.

“Draco Malfoy has caught the snitch.” Lee says quietly.

The Slytherin stand shouts and yells and cheers. She races down to the ground. She spots Blaise and runs over with Ashley.

“You were great.” Ashley said out of breathe.

“Thanks.” He pauses. “Would you take a stroll with me.” He asks holding his arm out.

She smiles and takes his arm. She looks back at Maxine and gives her a scared face. Max just gives her two thumbs up and turns towards the rest of the team. Draco rushes up to her. He was about to go in for a hug before he pauses. Max just crashes into him.

“Wonderful job drake.” She says holding him.

“Thanks.” He says as they part.

“We still on for tea Tuesday.” He asks quietly.

“Of course.” She smiles. “Better go join your mates.”

“See ya.” He yells as he jogs off.

Cassius and Marcus come up behind her.
“Heard your screams Max.” Marcus says.

“Hello. Wonderful job.” She says with a smile.

“Thanks.” They both say.

“You like quidditch?” Cassius asks.

“Yes I love it.” She answers.

“Thought so.” He says.

“Your welcome to get pointers from us whenever you like.” Marcus adds.

“Really.” She says with a smile.

“Whenever.” Cassius answers.

“I might take you up on that.” She says.

“Well good job mates.” Enzo says putting his arm around Max.

“Thanks Berkshire.” Marcus says as he walks away patting him on the back.

“You thinking of joining the team.” Cassius asks him.

“No don’t fancy quidditch.” He says.

“Shame Max loves it.” He says as he walks away.

Max doesn’t say anything. She can tell he’s upset. They quietly walk back to their dorms. He kisses her head and shuts the door. Max is unsure how to play this through. She is about to shut hers. When.

“Max.” Charis says.

“Chat what’s up?” She says.

“Fancy dinner?” He asks.

“Sure. Let’s go.” Max says with a smile.

They make there way into the hall.

“Cousin.” Draco shouts.

It still baffles her sometimes that Charis and him are cousins. She forgets how big the black family is.

“Draco great job mate.” He says as he sits beside him.
Max sits down and smiles at him.

“Scale 1-10 Max.” Draco asks.

“I’d say nine in the catch.” She says with a laugh.

“A nine coming from you. I’ll take it.” He says grinning.

They continue eating till dessert is served up. Black Forest cake. It’s gone fast. But Draco snags her a piece.

“Thanks drake.” She said.

She heads back to her dorm feeling happy. The start of winter holidays. Her and Draco are on taking terms. She spending the break with family and friends. It couldn’t get any better. Besides the fact that Enzo is upset. She’ll just have to give him his space. He doesn’t like it when guys are like that with her. It makes her mad but he doesn’t mean her any harm. Jealousy is a natural thing.

December/13th/ 1991

She wakes up in a cold sweat. Another one so close. It always comes in patches here and there. She’s just happy class is over. She nearly collapses when she sees a faint memory replay in her head. No she says stuffing it in the back of her mind. She could not work through it not yet. She’s already packed she just has to say goodbye to Luna because her friends are making her sit with them. She goes to the hall and spots her. She is just where they planned to meet.

“Loons.” She said pulling her into a hug.

“Max.” She said with a touch of sadness. “Your still coming for tea Thursday right?”

“Yes. I’ll floor powder there.” She says.

“Great.” Luna says.

They pull each other into one more hug. And Max starts walking towards the railway. Luna has to go back to her dorm to gather the rest of her things quickly. Max has to go early to the tracks. She sadly got the short end of the straw everyone instructed her to get the biggest cabin. She goes in and takes a seat. They should be along shortly.

“We’re here.” Theo chimes.

“Finally.” Max groans.
Max sees Ashlynn and blaise sitting beside each other. Finally they were official it felt like months before of nonsense. They just laugh as they sit in the cabin. The squish in but she notices Daphne, Pansy, and Jason aren’t in the cabin. She just shakes her head. Enzo takes a seat beside her.

“Hi love.” He breathes.

“Hi.” She says kissing him on the check.

Theo gags. Max sticks her tongue out at him.

“I heard that Mattheo and Jo are coming to yours.” Adrian says.

“Yes more the merrier.” She says with a smile.

“Your father is okay with that?” He asks.

“I’m staying at my mother’s cottage.” She says.

“Oh.” He says.

“I didn’t know you were.” Enzo says whispering to her.

“I thought you would have heard.” She says back.

“Why didn’t you tell me.” He asks.

“I didn’t know it was a big deal.” She says.

“Next time tell me.” He says.

Enzo is pretty quiet on the way to kings station. Max didn’t know why it’s was so bad she never said anything. Her brother would be there watching them. They would be somewhat watched.

As they reached the station Max could barely contain her happiness. Chris was meeting them here to apparate them to the cottage. She couldn’t wait till she was old enough. As they step off the train Max says goodbye to everyone. But as Enzo goes in for a kiss. She just hugs him. She can tell he’s upset. My brother would tell father. She whispered. He just nods. She isn’t sure how he might react. Not terribly she hoped when she told him. She walks with Jo and Mattheo over to Chris.

“Hello brother.” She says looking up at him.

“Sister.” He nods.

“This is Mattheo Riddle and Josephine Carrow.” She adds pointing at them.

“Okay. Pleasure.” he said shaking Mattheo hand.

He apparatus Josephine first. Then Mattheo. Then comes back for her. But before he apparates.

“First time since we’ve been back.” he pauses. “Since she died.”

“Yeah.” Max whispers.

“You going to be okay?” He asks.

“Just fine.” She says taking his arm with a smile.

As they apparate outside the house. Which Max is thankful for. She needs a moment to take it all on. She slowly breathes in and out. Still smells the same she thinks.

“Ready.” He asks.

“Yes.” She says walking up the stairs.

She opens the door. Everything looks the same. She sees her friends standing there watching her look around. This was just her mothers cottage. Her father scarcely visited. Chris must’ve said something to them. She looks over and smiles at them. Then she is on the ground.

“Ow.” She yells.

“You finally got here.” Samuel laughs.

“Get off me.” She yells.

“Not just yet.” William says.

“I thought Samuel would do this not you.”she says feeling betrayed.

They stand up laughing. Max introduces everyone and then Chris calls her over.

“This is my girlfriend.” He says “Sarah willow.”

“Hello Max.” She says with a smile. “I’ve heard so many things about you.”

“Great.” She smiles.

She didn’t realize her brother had talked about her. She just assumed he didn’t claim her as a sister.

Later that day she is looking through her mothers old bedroom. They spent a lot of time here. It was her mothers favourite place. She comes across this box she thinks is peculiar. It’s has BLACK written across the front. She opens it to find pictures of her mother from when she was younger. In some pictures she is with Alfred Charis’s dad. Then one she finds odd a picture of her mother and the older lady. Max had stayed with the year her mother and her disappeared. She was confused to find more family photos with Sirius black and regulus. That’s odd she only know who they are because she found a black family history book in her family library. It went missing after her mother died. But funny enough it lies here in this box. One thing she doesn’t quite understand is it says her mothers name is Lucille in here. But that is in correct her mothers name is robin. Tiny comes into the room.

“Hello Max.”

“Tiny.” She says running over to her and hugging her.

“I’ve made your friends a snack would you like to join them.” She asks.

“Not yet. How is locks.” she asks.

“Very well he misses you.” Max just smiles at that comment.

Locks is her bowtruckle. She loves magical creatures. Her mother got it for her during their disappearance.

“How have you and boho been.” She asks.

“Very well miss.” Tiny says. “We have missed you.”

“I will finishes up her and be down soon.” She says.

As tiny shuts the door. Max continues looking in the box. She found old Slytherin robes and more pictures of the black family. She grabs the box and rushes in to Chris’s room. To find him smoggy Sarah. Gross.

“Max it’s called knocking.” He groans.

“I need to talk to you privately.” She says.

“No problem I’ll go downstairs.” Sarah says.

“What is this.” She asks.

He looks over the box and doesn’t seem surprised.

“I wondered when you would figure it out.” He says with a laugh.

“Figure what out?” She asks.

“Mothers family.” He adds.

“She was a black?” Max asks.

“Yes.” He answers.

“But Lucille Black died.” She says with a raised brow.

“Just a cover up.” Chris says.

“A cover up.” She asks. “For what.”

“Mother got hit with a bad spell before she married it left her a bit wonky remember?” He says

“Yeah she could be odd.” Max comments.

“Father wouldn’t marry her if other people knew he was with the crazy Black girl.” Chris says.

“So they made everyone believe she was dead?” She asks.

“Yes she was always a sickly child. Most people believed it.” He says. “Her family knows. If that’s what you wanted to know.”

“We are related to the Malfoys.” She says in disbelief.

“Yes I believe are 2nd and 3rd cousins.” Chris says with a yawn.

“Charis is our cousin.” She says with wide eyes.

“Yes.” He responds.

“Why didn’t I know this.” She asks.

“Mother told me about your age. You would have found out too but…” he trails off.

He means she died before she could.

“Does Charis or Draco know.” She whispers.

“No.” He adds.

“You can’t tell anyone.” He adds.

“But everyone always assumed we were a Black somehow.” She says.

“Yes because they believed robin Black was some distant cousin.”

“I thought those were rumours.” She says.

“Nope.” He says.

“Was mother really sick.” She asks.

“The spell made her brain a little fuzzy.” He says sadly. “She was too sad at times or wouldn’t sleep for days.”

“It can’t be passed down if your wondering.” He says.

“Why was father ashamed off that then and Mother.” She questions.

“It was the Black family.” He says. “They want there house to be honourable and pure. No one could know their daughter was mentally Ill.” He adds.

“Oh.” She says walking out the door.

Max has always wondered if the rumours were true now that they are she doesn’t know how to react. She goes straight to bed.

December/15th/1991

Max woke up to someone shaking her.

“Max.” It was boho.

“Yes.” She says groggily.

“Chris has informed me that he will not be back till Friday.” He says.

“Okay.” Max answers. That’s good he didn’t really want him around if Sarah was being around. She was nice but it was to much. “What time is it.” Max asks.

“10 o’clock.” He pauses. “Breakfast is ready. Your friends and cousins are downstairs.”

She jumps up and goes downstairs.

“Hello sleepy.” Samuel says.

Max goes straight for the tea. Tiny has made the best tea since forever.

“Today is your tea with Narcissa?” Jo asks.

“Yes. I’ll be gone around lunch.” She answers. “Feel free to do whatever.”

Technically Samuel and William were her mothers nephews but it still felt like someone else’s house.

“Perfect I’ve got loads of reading to do.” Jo says.

“Boho and tiny will make lunch for you.” She says. “Whatever you want just tell them.”

“Okay.” they answer.

Mattheo and Max went outside for a walk after wards.

“This is a nice place.” Mattheo says to her.

“Yes isn’t it. It was my mothers favourite spot.” She says with a smile.

“That was her in that picture on the mantle.” He asks.

“Yes.” Max answers.

“You look like her.” He says quietly.

“Really. And you never saw her before when my father came to see yours?” Max asks.

“No my father always told me that your mother was quiet ill and had to stay home.” He says.

Max takes a second to think about that. Now that she remembers her mother did stay home a lot barely went out if not the Malfoys. How sad she thought trapped in the Macintosh Manor.

Max floo powdered to the Malfoys since no one there was old enough to apparate yet. As soon as she stepped through the fireplace she was greeted by Draco.

“Drake.” She says brushing herself off.

“Max you came.” He says with a smile.

“Of course. I told you I would.” She says.

“Mother is in here.” He says as they walk into the tea room.

“Max my dear.” She says getting up and hugging her.

“Narcissa. Good to see you.” Max says happily.

“I’m so happy you’ve made it for tea.” She says as they sit down.

“It’s been to long.” Max says.

“Indeed it has.” She replies. “So tell me all about your first term.”

Max tells her everything. Leaving out Draco’s parts. She decides it’s best to just not mention them. She can see that Draco is very pleased she has kept quiet.

“Actually I was wondering if I could speak to you privately.” Max says at the end.

“Of course.” Draco says getting up and leaving.

“I know.” Max says as soon as she casted a silencing spell over the room.

“About.” Narcissa asks.

“I’m a Black.” Max says looking at her reaction.

Narcissa didn’t look surprised at all when those words came out of Max’s mouth.

“I want to know some things.” Max goes on.

“Go on.” She says quickly.

“Why did my mother have to have a fake identity of some far off black family member?” Max asks.

“It was what she had wanted.” Narcissa answers.

“Why would she want that?” Max asks.

“She never said.” She answers. “But she was always ill after that spell.”

“Chris mentioned that.” Max says. “Why couldn’t we know?”

“Just in case you mentioned it to someone you were just children.” Narcissa answers. “It was her wishes. I guess to give you a start without the black name following you.” She shrugs.

“As if Macintosh is any better.” Max says.

“There are some Macintosh’s who have been good.” Narcissa says. “Some of your distant cousins.”

“How?” Max asks.

“It’s how they wanted to live I suppose.” She says.

“So we are?” Max asks

“Second cousins.” Narcissa says.

“Is that why I’ve always been somewhat family to you?” Max inquires.

“Yes but as well as you have always had a place here. Even if you weren’t related to us. Your Max.” She answers.

That’s it again. Why do people keep saying that. What is so fucking special about being me.

As she is about to leave she hears someone call her name.

“Max.” Draco says.

“Yes.” She asks.

“This is for you.” He says giving her a present.

“Oh drake you shouldn’t have. I didn’t get you anything.” She says sadly.

“It’s okay I didn’t deserve anything.” He answers with a laugh. “Open it on Christmas Day.” He adds

“Okay.” She hugs him. “Have a good Christmas.”

“You too.” He says.

As she steps into the fire she hears Draco say merry Christmas Max.

She is just in time for dinner as she arrives back at the cottage. Seven o’clock. She finds just Sammy and William at the table.

“They went for a early night.” William tells her.

“Oh okay.” She says.

“How was the Malfoys’s?” Samuel asks.

“Wonderful. I learned actually.” She pauses as she silences the room. “My mother was Lucille Black.”

“What.” Samuel says surprised.

“I know weird.” She says. “I’m a black.”

“Sick.” William says.

“Sick?” Max questions.

“It’s this muggle phrase.” He adds

“I told you to quit going around muggles. Father will be mad.” Samuel says strained.

“Sorry.” Will says quickly.

“So Maxine Black.” Samuel says.

“Yeah I guess.” She says as she takes a bit of her food. “You can’t tell anyone.” She adds.
“We won’t.” They say.

They finish up eating. She heads up to bed and thinks about telling her father she knows. Maybe she would wait until they go back Hogwarts.

December/ 17th/ 1991

She woke up early to tiny calling her name.

“Max it’s nine o’clock.” Tiny says. “You asked me to wake you so you could go to the Lovegood’s by ten.”

“Right.” Max says as she starts getting ready. “How is everyone feeling around here.”

“I think they are having a very nice holiday miss.” Tiny says.

“That’s good.” She says. “Could you make sure they all eat.”

“Of course Max.” Tiny says. “I also went and brought locks here.” She adds.

Max gives tiny a hug and says thank you as she goes down to the fireplace. She grabs locks and she immediately is mad.

“I’m sorry. I can’t wasn’t sure if I was allowed to bring you with me. Forgive me?” She says to her.

Alas she is forgiven when she gives locks some wood lice.

“I knew you’d come around.” She whispers to her.

Max stands in front of the fireplace.

“Luna Lovegood’s house.” She chants as she steps into the fire.

“Right on time.” Luna says.

“As always.” Max says sarcastically.

They hug for awhile before Luna’s father walks in. Xenophilius Lovegood.

“Good day sir.” Max says shaking his hand.

“Hello Maxine.” He greets her. “No need for sir. Call me philius.”

“Okay.” Max says with a smile.

“So you are my daughters kindred spirit.” He asks.

“Yes. What a honour it is.” She says.

“Wonderful.” He says. “Luna has prepared a great day for you too. Is that a bowtruckle?”

Max looks around till she spots locks on her shoulders.

“Yes this is locks.” Max says. “She is my friend.”

“She is beautiful Max.” Luna says smiling at her.

“Yes a very gentle creature.” Philius adds. “Why isn’t she with her tree?” He asks.

“It sadly burnt down. My mother rescued it and gave her to me.” She adds sadly. “I recreated one back at my house but it’s not the same.”

“Your mother sounds a lot like how Luna’s used to be.” He smiles sadly. “Have a good day girls.” He says exiting the room.

“Shall we.” Luna says pointing towards the staircase.

“Yes.” Max says excitedly.

They head into Luna’s room. It is magnificent. So odd but pretty at the same time. It’s Luna.

“Wow.” Max says. Then Max spots the portrait on the ceiling. It’s her and Luna. It says kindred spirits.
She grabs Luna for a hug. “I didn’t know you were so talented.” She says amazed.

“It turned out wonderful.” Luna adds.

Luna and Max spend there day chatting about anything and everything. Luna shows her their families wonderful garden. Which has been charmed to bloom every season. Luna has a special place for plants. Then Luna’s father takes them ice skating. It’s a wonderful experience. Luna asked if Max would stay later. Of course she would. She could always be around Luna. Just as it was around eleven pm. Luna leads her to their roof. Where Max finds a blanket and telescope. Max has grown to love the sky. Ever since Enzo has told her so many facts she can’t keep count. Max has always had special place for constellations her Mother and Chris used to point them out to her.

“Luna.” She says looking at her. “You amaze me every time.”

Luna just smiles as she takes her to sit down.

“There’s Regulus.” Max breathes.

“He is the brightest.” Luna comments.

Max then told Luna all about her Black heritage. Luna of course did not seem surprised.
She knew Luna wouldn’t mention it. Luna was a great friend that way. As they said goodbye, they both felt a pinch of sadness. Luna’s father was taking them to see distant family for the rest of the break. So they wouldn’t see each other till the start of second term. Max and her had already exchanged gifts they had both made eachother bracelets that matched each other’s personality’s. So they would always feel each other’s presence. On the inside it said To my kindred spirit. Max would always wear it she thought to herself.

“I’ll miss you.” Max says as she steps through the fire.

As luna is left standing in front of the fireplace. She can’t help but think of how lucky she is to have Max as her friend. Luna never had a friend before her.

Max woke up peacefully. She couldn’t help but smile as she got ready. She was meeting Enzo today at Diagon alley. As she walked downstairs to the dining room. She poured herself some juice and started eating. As she was joined by everyone else.

“Good morning.” They say to her.

“Morning. You guys ready for Diagon Alley?” She questions.

“Yes.” Jo says excitedly.

They had all made plans for everyone to meet there. The “party”. Max wasn’t sure really what to call it but she had missed them even if it had only been a week. As they floo powder to Diagon alley. Max is excited. Chris of course stayed back at the cottage with sarah. Will and Sammy were glad to be joining them. As Max steps through the fire she immediately see’s Enzo and runs to him.

“Hello love.” He says into her ear. “I’ve missed you.”

“I’ve missed you too.” She says

As they pull apart Enzo gives her a quick kiss when nobody’s watching. She then runs over to Theo and Adrian and they form a group hug.

“Look who has missed us.” Theo says with a grin.

Max just laughs. Then Max sees Draco and Blaise. She walks over to them.

“You came.” she says.

“Well I said we would.” Draco answers

“Hello Max.” Blaise says to her.

“Hi Blaise.” She answers.

They shop in everywhere it feels like before they head to the leaky cauldron for some food. Max is starved by the time they start eating. Enzo had bought her a new robe it was a pretty purple one. She had given him a book about the moons. She had got tiny to find it. It was rare Edition. Max had given Adrian and Theo both bags of candy. Which she got her Samuel to get her three bags of candy from America. The boys were obsessed with candy. Just as she thought they loved it. She hasn’t expected a gift back but instead got one from them together. It was a ring it had Taurus constellation on it. That was Maxine’s birthday month. It was so beautiful. Max put it on her middle finger right away. They did seem to always notice the little things she thought as looked at it. She said goodbye to them and walked out toward the floo powder fireplace in main square. Enzo followed her.

“You’ll make sure to write me a letter.” He asks as he hugs her.

“Yes I’ll write you one.” She says smiling at him.

He gives her a nice slow kiss. Today had been wonderful.

December/ 25/ 1991

Max woke up with a start as she quickly went downstairs. It was Christmas. Max had to probably say it was her favourite holiday. She spots Mattheo first and gives him a huge hug.

“How has it been her?” She asks.

“Great.” He responds. “Your cousins are good lads.”

“I thought you’d like them.” She says.

They start eating as Jo comes downstairs.

“Morning.” She yawns as she sits beside Max.

“What a wonderful morning right?” She asks Jo.

“Of course.” She answers.

“I can see someone’s is ready for gifts.” Samuel says as he goes to the living room.

“Hey I’m excited about everything.” Max says going after him.

She opens Mattheo first as she gives him the candy bag he starts eating some immediately. Boys she thinks nodding her head. As she unrolls it. Max has no words. It’s a poster of constellations. Regulus is the biggest one. They must’ve all talked about. She smiles warmly.

“Thank you.” She says brightly. “How’d you know regulus is my favourite?”
“Luna.” He says.

“Of course.” She laughs.

Next she opens Samuel’s and Will’s. They got her a small cage for Strix.

“Wonderful. I’ve been needing one. He’s just been pitching on my shoulder.” She says laughing.

Max hands them their gifts. She got Samuel a Quidditch poster and Will one too. It was easier to get them something similar because they got rather jealous otherwise. Will was planning to try out for the thunderbird quidditch team. Samuel was already on it.

Jo gave her a gift next. As she opened it she found some new perfumes.

“Great.” She says hugging her.

Max hands her gift to her. She got Jo these Color changing bath salts.

“Nice.” Jo says reading them over. “Thanks again for letting me stay I’ve really enjoyed myself.”

“No problem.” Max says.

She passes Chris a gift next as he is heading out the door. She got him a ring on ingested on the inside is one word. Stars. It had been what they always said to eachother as kids. Max could never get enough of them.

“Thank you.” He says giving her a small bag. “I’ll be back tomorrow.” As he apparates.

Max starts opening the bag she finds a small little bird. As she lifts it up it’s Diricawl. Max just smiles. This bird was so cool it could disappear at will.

“What shall I call you.” She asks.

The small bird just looks up at her.

“Blue?” She asks.

They bird just nods it head. Wonderful Max thinks. She runs up stays and starts making a habitat. Diricawl are from around the Indian Ocean. She makes one similar to one she read in a book. Blue immediately runs in. Max isn’t quite sure how Chris got her this but she wasn’t going to ask. Locks crawls down her shirt and goes to the miniature tree.

“Missing your tree?” She asks sadly.

Locks just looks at her.

December/ 30/ 1991

Max had already started packing when tiny and boho come in. She talks away to them as she finishes up. She has decided she is taking blue and locks with her to Hogwarts. She would hide them in her dorm. A few months ago She found a small room below her floor. Surly she couldn’t get in any trouble from using it. She assumed someone had put a room there when they were here. She was just going to tell Everyone they went back with tiny to her Manor. As she hugs her cousins goodbye. She can’t help but feel sad.

“I’ll miss you.” Max says to Sammy.

“Keep your spirit up.” He says.

“See you in July.” Will says as they floo out of there.

Chris has aparrated them to the station. But before he goes he gives her a hug. Which she had not expected.

“Keep out of trouble Black.” He says quietly.

All Max can do is smile. As she gets on the train to find her friends.
