Chapter 6
Sirius Black
8:55. In reality, Sirius had been waiting anxiously for Regulus since 7:00, which seemed a bit useless, since he knew Regulus was nothing but punctual. Well, there was a reason for that. Being late was one of Walburga’s many many irks. He checked the time again and again until he heard the creak of the ancient staircase and the clack of Regulus’ polished shoes against the wood. The door opened and Sirius quickly stuffed his phone away. “Hey.” Really sirius? Hey? He felt so clueless when it came to his brother. Regulus’ face was pale, but his nose red and bitten by the cold air and he was still wearing his uniform, not a single crease or wrinkle to be found. “Hi.” His voice was stern, but there was a soft strain that no one else except his big brother could have recognized. It was like a switch had flipped, and his younger brother’s shoulders lowered, and he bit his lip in a moment of hesitancy before walking over to Sirius and enveloping himself around him. Quick to react, Sirius’ hands flew up to hold his brother while he sobbed into his shoulder. A small sniffle came from him, when he let go and looked back at Sirius, his usual demeanor vanished. “I love you Sirius. I’m sorry for everything.” Sirius felt his heart shatter. Why was he sorry? He was so young, roped into a world of darkness with no one by his side. He spoke up, “No, Reg. It’s me who’s sorry. I still regret not taking you with me. It was just so fucking hard and- I didn’t know what to do, I needed to leave, and I wanted to take care of you but-” “It’s fine. I don’t hate you for leaving, I know it was the right decision for you. But I do have to say something, and I know you won’t like it.” Sirius’ face contorts into a state of confusion, he thought this was the chance to get Regulus onto his side of things, even though it may seem like they are both on the same side, but they both knew it was much more complicated than that. “Staying with our mother is the right choice for he as of now. I know you won't agree, but this is my decision. I hope I see you more often but I don't know if that'll even work out. Mother keeps a watchful eye, as you know. I love you. Good night." He quickly turned around and left the tower in what seemed like a blink of an eye, leaving his older brother slack jawed and confused still. This was his chance, his only one. And he knew that it was possible that it turned out like this... but he hoped. And hope was a dangerous thing, as in the end, that night resulted with swollen eyes and his own tears being spilled onto Remus' shoulder.
