Papa

Severus Snape was in his private potions lab mulling over his latest potions experiment when a very persistent owl began flying in circles around his head and hooting loudly. The dour potions professor scowled and let out a soft huff in frustration before snatching the letter roughly from the incessant bird. Severus scowled at the letter before tearing it open irritably.

Dear Professor Severus Snape,
Your presence is required at Gringotts Wizarding bank. This letter will portkey you into my office upon having completed reading it.
Sincerely,
Account Manager Silverttooth

Severus scrunched up his nose in distaste as he was involuntarily transported to Gringotts. He landed [THUD] in a heap on a chair inside Silvertooth’s office. Hadrian grinned widely upon seeing the other man. “PAPA!” he shouted excitedly as one would expect from a much younger child. Severus looked at the unknown young kitsune in bewilderment, furrowing his eyebrows in deep concern and puzzlement, believing the too small teen was delusional. Lifelong bachelor and resident dungeon bat Severus Snape was no one’s father.

“Professor, may I perform an inheritance test on you, free of charge of course?” Silvertooth asked the surly man, winking slyly at Hadrian when the older man looked away. Severus agreed reluctantly, feeling an unnatural compulsion to refuse which he could not explain. Severus cut his palm and placed blood on the parchment as instructed, believing he knew the results.

Severus stared at the results for several minutes before regaining his ability to speak. “Cleanse me now,” Severus tursely demanded of the goblin. Silvertooth complied with expediency, not wanting to get on the wrong side of the notoriously hot-tempered wizard.

Two hours later a disheveled Severus returned to the office, tear tracks staining his cheeks. The normally taciturn man scooped his bewildered son into his arms, hugging the petite kitsune tightly and firmly. “Papa,” the boy protesteed, his giggling barely restrained. The two men’s reunion was bittersweet by the absence of their missing parents/husbands respectively.

“Hadrian,” Severus asked his son tentatively, “Would you like to come home with me?” The overwhelmed teen, who was still clinging to his father like a baby monkey, just nodded against his shoulder. “Account Manager, could we trouble you for a portkey to Potter Manor?” Severus asked the goblin in a soft whisper, Hadrian having fallen asleep like a babe in his arms. “Of course my lord,” Silvertooth replied, appearing laissez-faire as he procured the required object. Severus and Hadrian portkeyed from the office without wasting another second.

Albus Dumbledore was scheming in his office when several of his many magical monitoring devices went haywire. His strategically laid plans were going up in smithereens. The wards on Privet Drive were down, his tracking and monitoring spells on both Severus and Harry were malfunctioning, and worst of all he was being denied access to the wards at Potter Manor. The twinkly eyed grandfather facade fell instantly replaced with a manic, evil grin. He flowed the Burrow, needing Molly and her brats immediate assistance if he had any possibility of salvaging his human chess game.

Upon arriving in Potter Manor a very disheveled and unkempt house elf prostrated herself at Severus’s feet, desperation clear in her glassy blue too large eyes. “Master Sevy, you’s be coming home,” she practically sobbed in her shrill voice, relief evident in her actions. “Dandelion, get up and tell me what’s wrong,” Severus implored the pitiful creature, voice stern yet concerned. “I’s be bad elf,” She cried out, “Evil man get master Jamesy and master Reg. He be trapping them here. Dandelion and other elves be trying to help, we was,” Her increasing desperation clear as the small creature beagan to pound her tiny fists against the stone floor of the floo room, “He be bringing Misters Weasey-Prewetts too, he is. They be needing you, elves not break spell.” Severus carefully deciphered the little elf’s blabbering.

“Dandelion, I need to put Hadrian in hii bed, then show me to my mates and friends,” Severus ordered, patting the creature's head in encouragement. Severus transfigured the cot Hadrian had used as a baby into a fluffy king size bed, tucking his little boy into bed and placing a soft kiss on the teen’s forehead.

Severus felt his stomach tie into knots as Dandelion led him through the manor and down into the abyss of dungeons below the castle-like manor. “Thank you,” he told the wretched house elf, dismissing the poor thing. Severus fell to his knees, weeping uncontrollably at the sight of his mates reduced to mere shells of who they had once been. After taking a few minutes to bite back the pain and collect himself, he managed to force open the cell doors one-by-one. He levitated the four unconscious bodies into the large drawing room in which he quickly conjured two oversized makeshift hospital beds, putting each pair of mates in one. The only sign of life evident, apart from shallow breathing, was their ability to move into one another’s arms for comfort. After watching his mates for a brief spell, Severus managed to pry himself apart from them in order to help them.
