Romeo and Juliet

Walburga Black never thought about herself as someone worth of anything. Yes, she was born in a golden cradle, away from all the life-troubles that mundane people had to face. But yet she felt like she didn’t own anything, even with all the material things that she actually owned. She was cunning like her family, but she wasn’t particularly smart. Walburga Black didn’t stand out from the crowd, except maybe by being a loyal friend and a kind spirit.

Maybe that was why she felt so comfortable in the Hufflepuff Common Room, as she heard the muggle music and rested in the arms of her beloved.

Imagine the scandal. A pureblood lady that came from the Noble House of Black laying in the arms of not only a black boy, but a muggleborn. Toujours Pur was the family motto. However, Walburga couldn’t care less about being pure when it came to her sweet Chuck. If anything, all she had were impure thoughts.

She had kept many secrets for so long that having him as one wasn't a problem. Like, for example, how she had hidden to her parents, to everyone, that she had to practically beg the Sorting Hat into putting her in Slytherin. It had been a little too embarassing, but the piece of magical wardrove accepted because it was sure that if he sorted a Black into another house that wasn't Slyhterin, they might have burnt it to death.

“Let’s dance” he whispered in her ear and pulled her into the crowd of teenagers.

Charles Nale was nothing but a prince. His mumma had raised him to be one; it didn't matter all the people that would disagree. She would say every night: Chuck, you are my prince and one day you’ll find a princess for you. Well, mum, Chuck had found his princess. It didn’t matter how wrong it was. For him, it was love. There was nothing complicated in that. You love someone, then you are with that person. And if you didn’t like it, you could go straight to hell.

He knew that his mumma wasn’t referring to an actual princess. She meant a nice, black girl that would treat her boy like a king and that would keep him out of trouble. Of course, she wouldn’t come between them like Walls’ parents would, but as a daughter of slaves, she wouldn’t be happy about it. He knew that all his mates, his muggle mates at Hastings, would crucify him for choosing such a posh, white girl. They already made fun of him for going to a white-people school, or at least that is what they thought. The truth was that living at Hogwarts was like staying in a parallel universe. While his muggle friends were focused on racism and the war, he was focused on muggleborn discrimination and their own war. In comparison, it was the same, but he couldn’t explain that to them. His friends believed he was isolated from the problem.

“You live in a safe place” one of his friends would repeat on and on.

“No, I don’t” he insisted, but they didn’t believe it, specially when they pointed out that he wasn’t friends with any other black kid at school.

Imagine their faces when he would explain that he was very deeply in love with Walburga. That’s how they would see them. Walburga was not an individual, just another face in a crowd.

“I love you, Wally” he confessed.

The words echoed in her mind. Love... Tears appeared in her eyes because she felt so damn fortunate. Real love for a girl like her that had felt she would never be worthy of anything. But she was. She was worth of Chuck’s love and that filled her heart and broke that golden cradle she hated so much.

“I love you” he repeated, “and I don’t care what they might do to us for it. I’ll fight and I’ll build us a future. It won't be much, but I’ll promise to love you every day for the rest of my life.”

“Chuck, I don’t need much” she assured him. “I don’t need a wealthy life. I need you. That’s all.”

She was sure of her words and to prove it she kissed his lips. Walburga knew what her parents and Cygnus would do if they found out about it. They would pretend it was just a whim of a little girl, a game, and they would take him away from her.

“I love you too.”

They kissed a little more. Openly, in front of everyone. Life was about taking risks and they were drunk enough to don’t care who could see them. However, the Hufflepuffs were particularly known for their open mind and tight lips. Plus, a good kiss was denied to no one.

“Chuck” she mumbled into his lips.

“Yes?”

“Can we go to your room?” she asked shyly.

“Why would you want to-? Oh. Oh...” he exclaimed. “Are you sure?”

“Yes.”

“Then... let’s go to my room.”

That night as they undressed each other, Chuck fell even more madly in love with her. And he wished that their love didn’t end like that old, tragic story of star-crossed lovers that killed themselves because they couldn’t be together in the end.
