Rose Granger-Weasley and the Anti-Vegan Cult
Note
This is my first-ever Harry Potter fan fiction. I am a vegan, and this story was heavily inspired by my own experiences in a church whose community meal did not accommodate vegans–after it became a drive-through meal because of the COVID-19 pandemic. My family and I ultimately stopped participating in the church in question. You, the reader, must understand that this was not a selfish decision, as our own veganism was not being endangered by the church; it was simply because of our ethical beliefs. The Hogwarts scenes were also partially inspired by my own experiences in Japan with my firmly anti-vegan father and grandparents; I may have this story translated into Japanese for them to read.

Epilogue

The following year, after Rose had of course failed her Potions OWL, she no longer took any classes that were fundamentally anti-vegan.  Hagrid’s new way of teaching Care of Magical Creatures was far more animal-friendly than his old way of doing it, so Rose felt comfortable continuing with that class—but her best subject was Herbology, with the support of Professor Longbottom.  When Rose and her family went to the Burrow for Christmas that year, Rose told Mrs. Weasley about some magical herbs that she (Mrs. Weasley) might find useful when making plant-based food.

The year after that, in Rose’s Defence Against the Dark Arts class, Rose and her classmates learned how to conjure a Patronus, a shield against Dark creatures known as Dementors.   If the Patronus was corporeal, it took the form of an animal, but a wizard could not choose what animal this was; nonetheless, something about the wizard’s personality was expressed in their Patronus form.  Once Rose was able to conjure a corporeal Patronus, it took the form of a rabbit—an herbivorous animal, reflecting Rose’s veganism.

A few years later, Rose came back to Hogwarts, this time as a teacher.  She had spent her school years paying particular attention to the vegan ingredients used in potions.  This, along with how exceptionally well she was taught in Herbology by Professor Longbottom, qualified her well for the job she got in the Potions department at Hogwarts; her classes focused entirely on vegan potions.
