Chapter 3
The silence was deafening, but Harry couldn’t hear anything past the frantic beating of his heart, aching with betrayal and sadness. He just saw Tom, the love of his life, cheating on him with Bellatrix of all people. The realization hit him hard, shattering the illusion of their seemingly perfect relationship. Tom, on the other hand, seemed unfazed by the situation. His usual composed demeanor faltered for a moment as he looked at Harry with a mix of surprise and annoyance. "Harry, it's not what it looks like," he said, his voice tinged with irritation. Harry couldn’t believe his ears, ‘it’s not what it looks like’ is literally the worst reply you can give. Harry scoffed, wiping away his tears with the back of his hand. "Oh, really? Because it looks like you were just caught red-handed cheating on me with Bellatrix," he spat, his voice laced with bitterness. Tom's expression turned icy, and he straightened his posture, trying to regain his composure. "You're overreacting, Harry. Bellatrix means nothing to me, you know that. She was just a means to an end" he said, his tone dismissive.
Harry felt a surge of anger rise within him. "A means to an end? Is that how you justify cheating on me, Tom? After all, we've been through together?" he retorted, his voice trembling with emotion. Tom scoffed, “And yet even after all we've been through together I have achieved nothing. I still live in this shitty apartment and trapped in this life. I am destined for greater things, I know that, and I am willing to do anything for it." The tension in the room was palpable, each word exchanged feeling like a dagger twisting in Harry's chest. He glared at Tom, his eyes burning with a mix of hurt and rage. "So, your solution to that is to cheat on me? To betray everything we had?" Harry's voice cracked, the weight of his emotions making it hard to keep his composure. "Was I just a means to an end too?" Tom's face contorted into a scowl, before smoothing down, and sighing. "Perhaps, perhaps not. What is done, is done and let's just forget it Harry." The audacity of Tom's words was like a slap in the face, a stark reminder that his ambitions knew no bounds, even if it meant discarding the ruins of a love they had once cherished.
Harry's voice was heavy with sorrow as he took a step back, distancing himself physically from the person who had once been his everything. "Tom, I can't be with someone who's willing to throw away love for the sake of selfish ambition," he said, his voice firm despite the tears that streamed down his face. The silence that followed was suffocating, the weight of their words hanging heavy in the air. The room felt smaller, the distance between them immeasurable. In that moment, Harry knew that the love he had once cherished had been tarnished beyond repair, and that he had to find a way to heal and move forward, even if it meant letting go of the person he had thought was the love of his life.
