letter 20

26 April 1996

Dear Starboy,

Thank you so much for helping me with Potions last night. I really needed it. I knew you were good at it, but I didn’t realize that your Draught of Peace would actually give me the best night’s sleep I’ve had since being home! When I’m at home over the summer, my house in my Muggle neighborhood is a lot quieter than the dormitory, and I’m much more acclimated to sleeping in pitch darkness and quietness. It’s made sleeping here much more difficult, but last night I slept like I was at home.

I can tell you’re also really good at making Polyjuice Potion. Your Draco look was so realistic! I couldn’t even tell it was Polyjuice at all. Remember in 2nd year when I turned myself into Millicent’s cat by accident? That was horrible! I’d like to think my Potions skills have improved since then. Yours have certainly always been good.

I am looking forward to many more dates.

Love,

Bookworm

“Mate,” Draco thwacked Theo over the head with the letter he just received, “she’s onto us.”

“I don’t know what to tell you. It’s not really my problem,” the brunet mumbled through a mouthful of dinner.

“Yes, it is! You are very much involved in this issue!” Draco glared.

Blaise spoke up, “I think it’s fine that she’s suspicious. She’s already halfway to finding out the truth.”

Draco rolled his eyes, “She’s not supposed to find out on her own.”

“The longer this goes on, the worse it’s going to get. Maybe you should just tell her now. Plus, that would mean I don’t have to go on as many dates with her,” Theo chuckled.

“I have an idea!” Blaise’s eyes brightened.

“Oh boy,” Draco groaned.

“Piss off,” Blaise paused, “As I was going to say, we have the Masquerade Ball coming up soon. Everyone will be disguised, obviously, so you’ll need to have some sort of device to show each other where in the ballroom you are. You’ll dance together, and then at the end of the night, reveal yourself to her!”

Theo blinked, “You know, Draco, it’s actually not a bad idea.”

“I know,” Draco scowled, “This is weird. Blaise never has good ideas.”

“What the hell? I’m sitting right here!”

“What if she hates that it’s me?”

“Later problem,” Blaise snorted.

“Eh, what would change?” Theo snickered.

“This is not funny!”

“Sooner or later, you’ll have to tell her. You might as well just reveal yourself at the ball.”

“Should I wear a wig, so my hair looks like Theo’s?”

“Bloody hell…”

Dear Bookworm,

I presume you’ll be attending the Masquerade Ball next week. I would love to dance with you while we’re there.

Since we will all be disguised, I’ll have to come up with a way that we can find each other. I want to make it special. At the end of the night, when everyone reveals themselves to their dance partner, I’d like to make our relationship public, if that’s okay with you. I’m done hiding my feelings for you.

Yours truly,

Starboy
