letter 10

7 April 1996

Starboy,

I'm guessing you chose The Great Gatsby since you still haven't written me back. Is it good so far? Let me know what part you're at!

Draco groaned when his owl dropped off a letter on his desk. He didn't even start any book. He wanted to rip the stupid letter in half and stomp all over it, but he stashed in his drawer behind the other letters Bookworm had sent him.

Across the room, Blaise and Theo were whispering between themselves. "He's miserable," Theo noted.

"Maybe if we steal his owl, she won't be able to send him letters," Blaise joked.

Theo glared at his counterpart, "If we touch his owl, Malfoy will murder us."

"What if we send her a letter to stop writing him? Then he'll stop being reminded of her!" Blaise came up with yet another terrible idea.

"No. I think the git would be even more upset. I mean, yeah, he doesn't want to fancy her, but he obviously does. If she keeps sending him letters, he'll have to respond eventually and he'll stop being miserable," Theo theorized.

Blaise raised an eyebrow in confusion, "Who are you and what have you done to Theodore Nott?"

"I can be smart sometimes," Theo scowled at his friend.

Several days passed and Hermione still hadn't received a response to her simple question.

"What did I do wrong?" Hermione grumbled into her pillow.

"Nothing, Mione. It's stupid Starboy's fault. Maybe he thought you were too good for him," Ginny rubbed her friend's back soothingly.

"He didn't even explain anything! He just stopped writing," she sobbed.

"He can't ignore you forever. Just keep writing. I'm sure he'll come around," Ginny mustered a smile even though Hermione wasn't facing her.
