Prologue
Not everyone is born equal.
Some are born into wealth, others into poverty. Some are born to be opposed, others are born to oppose. Some are born to fulfil a terrible destiny, others are born to be no more than mediocre. And some are born to be the villain of the stories whilst others are born to be the hero.
Or so they say.
For example, they say Voldemort, the dark lord of the twentieth century, was born to be the Dark Lord he became and the fact he was brought up in that muggle orphanage had nothing to do with his deep hatred of muggles.
That just because his mother used a love potion to marry his father and conceive him, he couldn't feel love or understand it.
No one wondered if the reason he couldn't understand love was because he had never been shown it, that maybe he could feel love. Love comes in many different forms from familial to parental to romantic to platonic, or maybe it was because by the time he found people who he could have grown to love his soul was already split and tainted.
The funny thing is the same could be said about Harry Potter. That he was born to defeat Voldemort. But the simple fact is; he wasn’t. The prophecy could have easily have meant Neville Longbottom. It was Voldemort who chose his foe, another half-blood like himself. If he had chosen Neville, how would that have changed things? What if no one had heard the prophecy? What if Voldemort had simply chosen to ignore it? We will never know.
Nobody is born to be the villain and nobody is born to be the hero.
But the fact remains that not everyone is born TO BE equal.
…
Our story begins three hundred years after the fall of Voldemort. But before we get to that, we should take a step back, to one hundred years after the fall of Voldemort. To the day the statute of secrecy fell around the world. It started in Japan, when Prime Minister was murdered on live tv. All anyone saw was a flash of green before a white haired man stood on the podium next to the minister's body, calling himself All-For-One declaring that this was only the beginning. And it was, leaders around the world fell within a year throwing the world into chaos. After the last one he stood in front of the cameras before declaring magic was real and right under the muggle's noses.
And then he was gone, retreating back into the shadows from whence he came.
The world was thrown into further disarray at his words; the statute of secrecy was officially broken. Magical leaders met with newly elected leaders from around the world. Although uneasy, many nations accepted the magical community working together to create new laws and regulations that would allow the two communities to work and survive. All except japan.
Japan, the rumoured homeplace of the man who called himself All-For-One, refused cooperation with the magical community, starting a modern day witch hunt which continues to this day. This meant that the wixen of Japan had to flee to other countries, the majority of them ending up in England.
But I digress, All-For-One had made his move and the world held its breath. They expected another Dark Lord like Voldemort or maybe even Grindelwald.
Oh how wrong they were.
Where Voldemort had been motivated by his desire for immortality and his absolute sense of magical superiority and Grindelwald had been motivated by anti-muggle ideology. All-For-One’s only desire was power. He only sought immortality as a way to keep a hold of all the power he had obtained.
All-For-One had his followers much like those before him, and in some sort of twisted homage they called themselves his Death Eaters. And though he disappeared from the spotlight, All-For-One’s brutal might could be felt around the world in an ever constricting grip. He didn’t care for blood, muggle or pureblood, if you tried to prevent him from fulfilling his goals, you died. He didn’t give second chances. You were either with him or chattel to be culled.
During his two hundred year reign of terror, eight wizards attempted to stand in his way, each one had been the leader of the organisation that openly opposed All-ForOne.
They called themselves One-For-All, almost like a figurative middle finger to the twisted Dark Lord.
The first leader of the organisation was called Yochi Shigaraki, the younger brother of All-For-One. The young man had been sickly from youth, but he stood strong in front of his brother as he faced him in a duel. And even though the young man failed, he brought hope to many, leaving behind the rest of his order and its new leader, his most loyal friend.
The last leader was the man who finally fell All-For-One, who duelled for five straight days against the unbeatable opponent, until finally the dust cleared and he was standing victorious with his fist held high in the air. Toshinori Yagi, now known to the world as ‘All Might’ lost his magic that day but gained freedom for the world once more. Nothing was left of All-For-One except a hand, though Toshinori wasn't in much better shape, the duel caused serious injury which led to health issues later in life. Not much is known about the man who defeated All-For-One as not long after his victory, Toshinori Yagi disappeared from the magical world, it's said that he retired to the muggle-like existence he came from so many years ago.
Now a year later as Hogwarts prepares for the next generation, grateful to the man who finally granted them peace…
If only it had lasted.
