“Master”
Emerald eyes looked up but other than that, showed no sign of hearing. Death sighed.

“You don’t have a choice. It’s not up to me.”

“Why me? Why can’t you just magic his parents to come back to life?”

“Fate wants you. You are the only capable person who would be able to care for him. You are the only person kind enough to take care of your own enemy. Besides, if he had someone who would love him, maybe he wouldn’t turn out how he did. You don’t want him to kill hundreds of people again, would you?”

Harry clenched his fist and glared at Death. It wasn’t fair. Why was it always him? But thinking about what Death said, it kind of made sense. The only reason Voldemort became well, Voldemort, was because he was unloved. Harry kind of gets it too. He was abused as a child and expected to defeat a dark lord. Life wasn’t fair for the both of them. Harry sighed and looked at Death.

“I’ll do it”

Narrowed brown eyes stared into blue sparkling eyes.

“What do you mean wizard? There’s no such thing.”

“My boy, you will be surprised at how much magic can hide.”

“How do you know if I’m a wizard? If I even am one.”

“The book is never wrong, you are a wizard.”

“Book?” Tom looked at the man in his room.

He sounded crazy. There was no such thing as magic. Or was there? Could that explain why he could talk to snakes? He looked at the man in the weird robes. There was a crest on it. It showed four animals: a Lion, a Snake, A Badger, and an Eagle. Tom stared at the man like he was looney.

The old man's eyes twinkled. Tom was really tired of seeing the twinkling eyes. “The book where it writes itself. It writes the name of every magical children when it is their time.”

Tom pursed his lips. ‘Our time? To what, die?’ He glared at the old man. “What do I get from this?”

“Ah, well you get years of knowledge of magic, as well as actually practicing with magic. Now doesn’t that sound exciting?!”

Tom pondered about the pros and cons. If he went to the magical school, he wouldn’t have to stay here for most of the year. But what if the old man was lying and is actually looney? Tom couldn’t help but shiver at the thought. What if he was actually a pedo trying to lie to kids so they would follow him?

“I’ll agree, on one condition,” the old man raised a brow, “I want you to leave the other kids alone.”

Harry appeared in a dark alleyway. “How am I supposed to find him anyways?”

“You will-” Harry jumped, “-find him when your necklace starts to heat up.”

“What neck-” A necklace appeared around his neck. “Never mind.”

He walked out of the alleyway and looked around. He saw a diner and decided to fill his energy before finding the little dark lord.

‘ CHIME ’

The door to the diner opened.

“Welcome customer, I’ll be right with you. Just take a seat.”

Harry nodded and went to sit in a secluded area where he could see people but people could barely see him.

“So, what can I get ya’ Mr. Green eyes”

“Um, I would like a grilled hamburger steak with a Pepsi drink.”

She writes (more like scribbles) on the notepad, “...ok, will that be all?”

“Yes, thank you”

The waitress smiled at him before yelling to the cook about another order. Harry stifled a laugh and continued to look around the place. There weren’t that many people here aside from the workers. There was a couple of teenagers and a mother? with her kids. Harry thought, what would it be like to adopt his worst enemy. It wouldn’t be that bad, would it? A glass full of soda was slammed onto the table. Harry jolted.

“You were staring at that mother for quite a while.” she raised an eyebrow.

“O-oh, sorry. I was just…lost in thought.”

“Hm,” Laura, the waitress, stared at him skeptically, “if you’re sure.” She narrowed her eyes at him and did the ‘I’m watching you’ with her hands. Harry chuckled sheepishly and sip his pepsi. He grimaced as the drink fizzed down his throat and cringed.

He didn’t even know he was starving until the juicy burger was placed in front of him. He stomach grumbled and he blushed, hoping no one heard that. He took a huge bite of the burger and almost went to heaven. It was so good!

Tom thought about what the man Dumbledore had said. September 1. That’s when Hogwarts started. What an abomination of a name. It was August 22. He didn’t have much time and he would need to go ‘shopping’ for his supplies. Dumbledore said “ You’ll know where to go. You are a wizard.”

The problem was, he didn’t know where to go. And he didn’t have any money. It was official. The man is crazy.

Tom stared out the window. It was almost dark out. He should go out now. It was the only time where he could talk to his friends. (A.K.A. snakes) He waited until he couldn’t hear any walking or talking before opening the door out his room. He tiptoed as quietly as he could to the front door and silently opened the door.

He ran out of the orphanage as fast as he could and to a nearby park. He crouched next to the bushes.

“Hey, come out. I’m here.”

“Speaker! You’re back!”

Multiple voices were heard. They were glad that the only speaker they knew came back.

“I got you some food.” He raised the bag he was carrying and poured out the content. It was full of rats, lizards, and other sorts of rodents.

The snakes quickly grabbed a rodent and swallowed them whole. Tom was too busy looking at the snakes eating their meal to notice someone coming towards him.

“Hey kid, where are your parents?” Tom jumped and glanced back at the man. He had the greenest eyes Tom had ever seen. They were like a deep emerald green. Tom was so mesmerized by them that he didn’t notice the hand waving in front of him. When one of the snakes climbed on him, he jerked back and grabbed it a little too tight.

“Hey,” the man reached over to grab the snake and loosen the grip. Tom flinched back expecting to be hit. Tom looked over to see if the man noticed. It seems not. “You have to hold it gently or you’ll hurt it.” He opened up Tom’s palm and grabbed the snake. He let the snake slither up his arm and around his neck. Tom looked at him in astonishment. He’s never seen anyone so gentle with a snake before. The man grabbed the snake off of his neck and gently grabbed Tom’s hand. He let the snake slowly slither away from him and into Tom’s hands.

“Now, where are your parents?” Tom stared at the man, alarmed. Tom wasn’t stupid. He knew what stranger danger was.

“Th…They’re at the corner store right there. They’ll be back any minute now.”

The man hummed. “So is it okay if I stay here with you then? Until they get back of course.”

Tom bit his lips. He couldn’t exactly tell the man that he lied. Lying equals punishment. He looked down at the snake in his arms and slowly petted it. The man apparently took this as a sign to sit down next to him. He glanced at the man but he wasn’t even staring at Tom.

Tom, too scared to say something, scooched further away from the man. Now, how to get away.

Dumbledore apparated to a pub in Diagon Alley. His robes changed into more professional and formal clothing. He walked in and looked around for someone. His eyes lit up as he made eye contact with another man. He quickly walked over to the man and sat across from him.

“Grindelwald.” He placed a kiss on the back of Grindelwalds hand. It felt weird to kiss him under disguise. Even if he knew who it was.

“Dumbledore.” He nodded. “Any news for me?” Dumbledore nodded.

“The British ministry is trying to keep everyone calm after the attack you made in Germany. They are sending out more aurors to patrol. But this leaves a big opening in the ministry.”

Grindelwald had a thoughtful look on his face. “How long will they keep the defenses up?”

“Hm, until further notice of your moving I suppose. Why?” Grindelwald grinned.

“How do you feel about letting me into Hogwarts?”

“Wha…how would I do that?” Grindelwald grinned even wider.

“You know, I heard a little something about being able to turn into an animal. And lets just say, that’s how we’re going to get in.”

Dumbledore pursed his lips, “Of course.”

“..your favorite color?”

“Green. Your favorite animal?”

“A dog.”

“A dog? I thought you’d be more into snakes, seeing how you handle them.”

“No, I'm more of a dog person.”

Tom stared at the man idly. He glanced down at Tom and smiled. Tom blushed and put his head down. His face felt even more hot hearing the man laugh.

“So, about those parents of yours,” Tom played with the end of his shirt, “they’re not coming are they?” Tom shook his head. The man sighed. “Come on, let’s take you back. It’s cold out.”

Tom hurriedly got up after the man. “It’s this way.” He mumbled. He walked a few feet ahead of the man. He could hear the rustling of the man's clothes to know that he was close enough. Tom sped up as the orphanage came into view. He walked, practically ran to the gate. When he got there, he stared back at the man to see if he was still there.

“Well, go on.” The man waved his hand at him. Tom played with the hem of his shirt and waved back.
Tom crept into the orphanage as quietly as he could. He went up into his room as quickly and fast as he could and peeked out the window. The man was gone. No trace of him even walking away. Was he magic too?

Somewhere far away, a man woke up. He couldn’t remember how he got here or where he was. He looked around to see if anything looked familiar. It looked like it was a cellar but he wasn’t chained or locked up. He looked around the cellar, spotting stairs that led up to somewhere.

He made his way to the stairs and slowly walked his way up as best as he could, his legs feeling like jelly. He walked up spiral stairs to regular stairs. At the top of the stairs was a door. He walked a little bit faster to the door.

When he got up there, he opened the door and saw that the room looked massive. He walked farther to explore the place. The door behind shut closed and disappeared. The man jumped and turned around. The door was gone and in its place was a family portrait. It was…him? His mother and father were there too. There were dates and names written at the bottom of the portrait.

The Riddle Family ~ 1910

Thomas stared at the portrait in shock. This was his home. He lived here. He saw a letter on the table under the portrait. It read,

Dear Thomas,
I know that you don’t want to hear from me again but I must tell you. I am with child. You are the father. I didn't know how else to tell you considering that you don’t ever want to see me again. It’s a healthy baby boy. His name is Thomas Marvalo Riddle. By the time you’ve read this, I will be dead. I am sorry. I was desperate and couldn’t bear a child, but you gave me the ability to give birth. I am weak due to the birth. This is my farewell letter and after this, you will never see me again.

All my love,

Merope Gaunt

Thomas was shocked. Merope. That name sounded familiar. The face of a woman popped up in his brain and his vision went red. ‘That wench.’ Thomas grit his teeth. But, he had a son. Someone to continue his legacy. Thomas was unsure of what to do. Either find his son, or disown him completely. But that would mean that there would be no one to continue the Riddle family.

Thomas decided. He was going to find his son.
