Chapter 12

🎵

Namtan gets home, drops her bag on the floor, and flops into her gaming chair, spinning around with a grin.

She still can't believe she got Film's number. As she soaks in the moment, she suddenly remembers what Milk told her earlier.

Guess it actually pays to listen to her sometimes.

Feeling generous, she orders a slice of strawberry cheesecake and an iced chocolate to be sent to the radio station—Milk is always sipping on something, after all. Grabbing her phone, she snaps a quick pic of her forearm and shoots Milk a text.

Namtan: Okay, fine. Your dumb ideas actually work. You're the best. Also, food's on the way—enjoy! xoxo

A few minutes later, her phone buzzed.

Milk: NO WAY YOU ACTUALLY SENT FOOD?? I WAS ABOUT TO STARVE. 😭💖

Milk: Wait—what do you mean dumb idea? Why are you being suspiciously nice?

Namtan smirked and sent a photo in reply.

It was a picture of her forearm, fresh with Film's phone number on it.

Namtan: Santa's gift for me came early

Milk: WAIT—! IS THIS HER NUMBER?? NAMTAN, YOU'RE DOWN BAD.

Namtan: Shhhhhh. Let me have this moment. 😌

Milk: I demand full details tomorrow, Tipnaree 🙄

Namtan: Yeah, yeah. Whatever.

Namtan lies on her bed, now freshly bathed except she had one arm up in the shower, fearing the water would wash away Film's number despite already saving it on her phone, somehow, she just wanted to keep Film's personal handwriting on her arm for a little longer.

And now she stares at the number scribbled on her arm. Fingers hovering over the screen as she debates texting. She's never been the type to hesitate, but something about Film makes her pause.

Should I text first?

Would that be too eager?

Maybe I should wait.

No, what if she thinks I forgot about her? Ugh.

She groaned into her pillow before taking a deep breath and starts typing.

Meanwhile on the other side of town, Film was curled up on her bed, hugging a pillow, her phone resting beside her. She keeps glancing at it, heart pounding. She may not want to admit it, but she was expecting for a certain somebody to hit her up. She turns to the other side and talks herself out of it.

She may be too tired from the commute, she thought.

Suddenly, her phone buzzes.

In a flash, she sits up cross-legged on her bed, eyes locked on the screen.

Namtan: Hi, Nong'Film. It's Phi'Namtan. Hope you got home safe.

Her heart did a little flip when she saw the name.

She took a deep breath before replying.

Film: P'Namtan! Hi. I was actually wondering if you'd text... but I wasn't sure if you'd want to.

Namtan grinned at her phone, rolling onto her back.

Namtan: Want to? Nong, I risked my life in that bus just to get your number. Of course I wanted to.

Film giggled, hiding her face behind her hands. She bit her lip, typing.

Film: Thanks again for earlier. You... didn't get squashed, did you?

Namtan: I survived. But barely. You owe me now. 😏

Film giggles softly at the teasing text, her cheeks warming. She hesitates before replying.

Film: I do? What do you want as repayment?

Namtan: Hmm... this is a once in a lifetime chance so I guess I'll have to think about it real hard. Gotta make it count 😏

They continued texting—talking about random things, about the festival food they shared, childhood stories, even reminiscing about how to they got jailed together or even silly complaints about professors.

Time slipped away, neither realizing how late it had gotten.

Film: Oh wow, it's almost 1 AM. I didn't even notice.

Namtan: Me neither. But I don't mind. You're fun to talk to.

Film: You too. ☺️

They both stared at their screens, smiling like fools.

Namtan: Sleep soon, okay? I'll text you tomorrow. Sweet dreams, Nong'Film.

Film: Good night, P'Namtan. Sweet dreams too.

Film set her phone down, still holding it to her chest as she turned off the lights, her mind replaying every text, every teasing word.

Meanwhile, Namtan stared at her screen, grinning before finally shutting her eyes.

They both fell asleep with their hearts a little fuller than before.

--

Love sighs, stretching her arms above her head before slumping back into her chair.

The glow of her laptop screen illuminates her face as she carefully uploads her audition pictures, double-checking the requirements before hitting submit.

Juggling schoolwork and modeling wasn't easy, but she made it work. It helped that she actually enjoyed both—though right now, her brain was fried from hours of studying. She needed a break.

Reaching for her phone, she taps on the radio app, letting the background chatter fill her room as she absentmindedly scrolls through social media.

"Alright, if you're out there, listening while pretending to study—yes, I'm talking to you—put the highlighter down and take a snack break. You deserve it. But don't blame me if you fail, okay?"

Love pauses mid-scroll, then bursts into laughter.

The DJ's voice is playful, teasing, full of energy that instantly lifts her mood. She leans her elbow on her desk, grinning.

"Anyway! Here's a song to help you romanticize whatever you're doing right now—whether it's finishing an assignment last minute, staring at your crush's Instagram. Go ahead and imagine yourself in a music video, I know we're all guilty of this"

Love shakes her head, amused.

Who is this DJ?

She's hilarious.

Something about her voice—so warm, so effortlessly entertaining—makes Love feel like she's talking to a friend. If they ever met in real life, she's sure they'd get along.

Little does she know, she already has.
