Chapter 2

“Draco! It’s nearly 10:30, wake up!” Draco woke up, completely disoriented to a shrill voice of a woman yelling at him. He sat up in the bed trying to rub the tiredness out of his eyes and get a look at the person behind the voice. What he saw was definitely not something he expected. Astoria Greengrass, who looked like she had aged some from the few months he had seen her since, was walking around his room in the manor without a care in the world.

“And why would it matter if it’s 10:30? It’s a Saturday. Also how did I get into Malfoy Manor and why exactly are you here?” Astoria turned towards him with a confused look on her face.

“Draco, are you feeling alright? We’re at home, in the Manor, and yes it’s a Saturday but it’s September 1st, and you have a niece and nephew to see onto the Hogwarts Express so I suggest you get up, get ready and meet me downstairs in ten minutes. Blaise and Pansy will never forgive you if you miss the twins' first year off to Hogwarts.” And with that she stomped out of the room. He was even more confused than before. Since when was Blaise with Pansy. He had come to the conclusion that he was somehow in the future, at least 12 years since Blaise had twins old enough for Hogwarts. The biggest question going through his mind was his witch. His Hermione. Where was she? If he wasn’t with her then who was?

He quickly showered, dressed and then met Astoria downstairs 12 minutes later. He didn’t say anything as he followed her through the floo to Kings Cross Station. When he got there he saw many of his old classmates. It looked like Goyle married Tracey Davis. He saw Potter with she Weasel and their four kids. Theo was with Luna Lovegood and it looked like they had two kids of their own. He saw a few other people from school he barely recognized when he suddenly heard her laugh and it felt like a rug had been pulled from under his feet. When he looked up there she was, breathtakingly beautiful, but heavily pregnant. His heart stopped. So she did marry, and by the red hair of her children, it looked like she married the Weasel. He thought he was going to be sick, he felt the bile in his throat actively try to make its way up his throat. She looked happy and he felt miserable.

Before he could get too far into his thoughts, he felt arms wrap around his middle and back.

“Uncle Draco you made it!” He looked down at a beautiful little girl with caramel skin and jet black hair, spiral curls down her back.

“Of course he did sis, he said he wouldn’t miss it for the world!” He turned and saw a handsome young man, who looked just like his sister but with skin a little darker and hair much shorter but the same jet black curls. He wasn't sure how to interact with them so he just hugged them back. Astoria came to his side and hugged them both, Blaise and a very pregnant Pansy followed behind his alleged wife. Blaise was by his side in an instant and Pansy just looked at him weird before she broke down crying while hugging her two kids.

“Blaise” Draco whispered to his best mate. “Can we talk privately after this? I have some questions.” Blaise looked at him weirdly but nodded his head.

“Yeah, Astoria told Pansy she would take her shopping so I can come over and we can drink.”

After the train took off and the woman left to do their shopping Blaise followed Draco home. He poured them both a generous glass of his best fire whiskey and sat down on one of the chairs in his private study while Blaise took the other.

“So, what did you want to talk about Draco?”

“This is going to sound crazy and I know it, but I’m from the past. What year is it?”

“2016”

“Shit, I went ahead 15 years in the future.”

“What do you mean you’re from 15 years in the past?”

“Well the last thing that I remember was I had my fight with….um anyway I got drunk, you came to sober me and then I went to bed. When I woke up, I woke up today, 15 years in the future.” At this Draco downed his drink, stood up and began pacing the room. “I wake up and I’m somehow married to Astoria Greengrass, I couldn’t stand her in the past! And now we’re married! We have no children, we live in that god awful manor and she treats me like I’m barely even there. Which isn’t really a bad thing but still what in the bloody hell happened 15 years ago for me to deserve this!”

Draco sat back down, feeling completely defeated. Blaise then downed his drink and turned his body towards his friend.

“Draco, look I remember that night, the one after your fight with…her. And obviously a lot has happened since then, some things I know others you’re on your own. I can fill you in on the things I know for you.” Draco nodded his head and Blaise began.

“Well the main thing is you told your parents about Hermione and to say they took it badly would be an understatement. You didn’t talk to them for almost two weeks, it was a bad two weeks. Lucius started the paperwork to disown and disinherit. Your mother was torn. Then a month later without your knowledge Lucius signed a betrothal contract for you and Astoria. He made sure to put it in the paper the day after it was signed. You tried to reach out to Hermione a few days after but found her apartment empty and abandoned. She spent another year in America and when she came back she was dating Weasley. They got engaged 6 months later and married another 6 months after that. She had her first kid pretty much 9 months after they got married. You reached out to her after she had her first kid and she wrote you a very angry letter back. While she was in America you got married to Astoria. You both tried for a kid but found out she had a blood curse that prevented her from getting pregnant and since there is that tricky infidelity clause in all pureblood marriages you weren’t able to get another woman pregnant to continue the Malfoy line. Lucius was furious when he heard that Astoria was unable to have kids. Even more mad then when you told him you were planning on marrying Granger. That looked like child’s play compared to this. So even though your marriage was never a happy one it became even more estranged.”

“So how many kids does Hermione have with the Weasel?” Draco was curious now.

“Well her oldest just turned 12, then another not even a year younger. Then I believe she has a 6 year old and a 4 year old and she is currently pregnant again, so on number five.” Draco couldn’t help but laugh at the situation. His father subjected him to a life with a pureblood witch to continue the family line, only to find out that she couldn’t even have a kid. When the witch he loved was popping out kids like it was going out of style with a man who wasn’t him. He wished he could go back and rectify his mistakes. He would choose Hermione over his father every other time.

The two men spent their afternoon talking about what has happened in the last 15 years and Draco was thoroughly exhausted by the end of the day. When Pansy and Astoria showed back up Draco was very drunk and took himself to bed before he could say anything stupid to his supposed wife.

A week passed by quickly, then two weeks and before he knew it, it had been two months. He fought with Astoria almost every day about the most miniscule things and was honestly tired of it. In this reality he took over his father’s business and worked on pointless paperwork all day. He knew it was wrong but he would cast a disillusion charm on himself and sneak into the ministry to watch Hermione. She was Head of the DMLE and she was a force to be reckoned with. He watched over the past two months as her belly became more swollen, and how he wished it was with his child. Her smile was the only good thing about his day, even though it was never directed towards him, he was just happy to see her happy.

Another month passed and he was beginning to become more depressed. He snuck into the hospital to see her after she gave birth. The newborn was beautiful, no Weasley trait in sight, and she was absolutely breathtaking. She had just birthed a baby no less than 4 hours before and looked gorgeous. How he wished it was him holding her hand and kissing her forehead. Giving her words of encouragement, saying he loved her, but no, he fucked up. He ruined it and now Weasley got to be the one by her side.

That night he confronted his father, a little drunk, but he didn’t care he needed to get out what he had to say.

“This is all your fault!” Draco yelled at Lucius, who looked unamused by his son's intrusion.

“And what pray tell is my fault son?”

“It’s your fault I’m stuck in this loveless marriage with a wife who can’t give me a child while the woman I love just had her fifth! You took my choice away and now I’m miserable.”

“If I remember correctly Draco, you went along with it because you did not want to be disowned. You really think sullying our family line with that mudblood would have been okay? She is lesser than you Draco. You are a Malfoy. One of oldest purebloods in this country, everywhere actually. I could not let filthy blood come in and ruin that.”

Draco laughed at that. “Ha, that’s comical father. Well you got your wish Lucius. Your family line is unsullied and will forever be, and it will also die with me because of your stupid decision. Now instead of having half-blood grandchildren you have none.”

“Yes that was a mistake on my part, I should have chosen a better pureblood witch for you but no matter, no bloodline is better than a sullied one. At least our line will die pure.”

“Is your head stuck so far up your own arse father that you would rather let the Malfoy name die out? I should have never listened to you 15 years ago. I should have chosen her and if I could go back and do it all over again I would! She is a better person than any other person I have ever met and I lost her because of you! Make no mistake father, I will never forgive you for this. You don’t have to worry about me anymore. I may not be able to divorce Astoria but our vows don’t require us to live together. I will be leaving the country in the morning and I would appreciate it if you didn’t come looking for me, because I promise you, you will not find me.” And with that Draco left his father in his office and rushed into his room. He quickly packed a bag and set it beside his bed for the morning. He wrote a quick note to Astoria to leave out before he left. He quickly got ready for bed, deciding to sleep nude and slid underneath his silk covers. He dreamed of being free. Of a family he would never have with Hermione. He let a few tears slip out before sleep took him.
