All the Balloons

Ginny Potter walked sleepily down the hall from her bathroom, heading for the kitchen. She rubbed the sleep out of her eyes; she was not really a morning person but these days sleeping in was out of the question and there was not a lot she could do about it.

She walked down the stairs and gave the lounge a quick look as she was about to go to the kitchen, then did a double take and stopped.

“Harry,” she called. 'HARRY?”

She heard a thud then thundering footsteps grew louder as her husband approached.

“Gin, everything all right?” he asked worriedly, glancing at her ever so slightly rounded belly.

Ginny didn't answer, she just gestured with her head for him to look around.

He did so, eyes widening at the sight in front of him. Turning back to her, he grinned.

“ Someone is very popular on her birthday,” he teased, gesturing to sight of the whole lounge covered in blue and yellow balloons and streamers.

“So they're not from you?” she asked curiously.

Harry shook his head. “ One of your brothers, maybe?”

“ Why blue and yellow though? Red and yellow for Gryffindor, I could understand,” mused Ginny, “ or green and yellow for the Harpies.”

“Or blue and pink,” suggested Harry, placing a gentle hand to her abdomen.

Ginny placed a hand over his and the two beamed at each other, united in the joy that their family was expanding.

“Maybe there's a note or card,” suggested Harry.

“ Good idea, let's go see,” agreed Ginny.

The two walked amongst the large balloon bouquets, laughing over a soft toy snitch and quaffle before Harry picked up a teddy bear wearing a Puddlemere United jersey.

“Puddlemere?” he queried aloud, looking puzzled.

“ Look, there's a card,” cried Ginny, finding one amongst a full baby outfit of the Puddlemere uniform. She opened it and read aloud.

“ Dear Harry and Ginny,
I stopped by the joke shop the other day to visit with George and he and Ron told me your wonderful news. Katie and I send your our congratulations and best wishes. With both your flying genes, here's hoping this little one will play for PU.
Cheers, Oliver.
PS Luna was visiting the store too, and she assured me the baby is a boy, so no future Harpy this time.

It ended with a smiley face.

“ You told Luna it was a boy?” asked Harry.

“No, I bloody did not,” sighed Ginny, “ you know the midwitch said we'll find out at the next scan.”

“Then how did she know?” asked Harry.

Ginny shrugged. “ It's Luna. She did spend an inordinate amount of time talking to my belly last week when she popped over for lunch, though.”

“ Should we be worried about Gwenog and Oliver laying claims to our babies?” asked Harry, only half worried.

“Oh it's just a bit of fun,” chuckled Ginny. “Looks like our little secret won't be a secret for too much longer, especially with George telling everyone outside the family.”

“It's Oliver and Katie, people we know and like,” Harry reminded her.

“So these are baby balloons, not birthday balloons,” realised Ginny, feeling teary. Damn hormones.

“Hey, I'll get you all the balloons you want to put a smile back on that beautiful face,” offered Harry quickly, but how about first I make you a lovely big breakfast fry up?”

Ginny turned pale and put a hand over her mouth before running to the bathroom on the ground floor of their house.

“Sorry,” Harry called after her sheepishly. “Can I do anything?”

Harry felt helpless when Ginny suffered her morning sickness but she had constantly told him that she didn't want him hovering as she was hanging over the loo.

“Dry toast and tea,” she called back feebly.

“Anything for you, love, especially today,” he replied cheerfully.

'Happy Birthday to me,' she thought, as she bent over the loo again.

A/N This was based on a fun meme I've seen on Tumblr often, about how nobody was more excited than Oliver Wood when Harry and Ginny announced they were having a baby. Thought I'd run with it for Queen Ginny's birthday!
