people love an ingénue
Summary
In a moment of heartbreaking vulnerability, Ginny laid bare her emotions with a tone that resonated with both sorrow and grace. "I knew I loved you, even then," she confessed, her voice sad but her words so ceaselessly divine. She peered upwards through her lashes, her eyes were like a pair of diaphanous topaz, upon which the luminosities of the earth sang, reflecting the essence of the world in a kaleidoscope of hues."That's funny," Reese replied, "'cause I always tried to convince myself I didn't."She wanted to pretend, just for a moment, that she could be able to love her the same way she could love any other boy—but fear imprinted illusions of sin in the back of her mind that she had been much too afraid to admit. The abyss of regret would forever be staring back, its unyielding depths an eternal reminder of the irreversible nature of actions taken.Everything the two girls shared—snarky jabs, pointed glares, odd silences, angrily impulsive kisses—sits between them like a tangible presence, causing the tension to ratchet into impossible heights.Reese knew the line between them had been blurred. She felt the shift, leaving her feeling off-kilter and out of bounds when they were together.

Summer '92

Reese,

Lacey is sending me nonstop letters, and her owl doesn't get along with mine, so please control her!

I took a fabulous trip to Italy with my family this summer, and I need to see everyone again before my tan fades. I know your standards aren't quite as advanced as mine, but I see beauty very clearly, and those Italian boys were BEAUTIFUL! Which was great because I always had something to do (the boys rotated each day for time with me), but it's also a bit rubbish because no one at school would compare!

Miss you guys so much, and I can't wait to show you all the souvenirs I got from these wonderful Italian designers. See you soon!

Xoxo,

Lavender Brown

🗡🗡🗡

Reese,

I MISS YOU SOO MUCH!

I hope you've been practicing on that speedy racing broom I'm sure you have, because this year will be our year!

I've been practicing with Ernie, but he hasn't taught me anything I didn't already know. His broom is newer than mine, so he has an unfair advantage! I just can't wait to get on the Quidditch pitch and show everyone who Lacey Macmillan is!

I miss you all so much. It will make me crazy, but I so missed my own bed! I think you would love it over at my house, if you could ignore the big-brother-stink of Ernie. My parents would LOVE you!

Did you hear Lavender traveled to Italy? She says those boys aren't at all peculiar, and that if I got lucky, she'd bring me along next time! My heart belongs you lot, but I’d still he honored!

I'll see you, Dean, Lav, and Mione at Diagon Alley! Right?

Your friend,

Lacey Macmillan

🗡🗡🗡

Reese,

How is your summer coming along? Seamus stayed at mine for a week but left yesterday. I'll get to see all of you next week at Diagon Alley, I reckon, assuming you'll show as well.

I have yet to hear from anyone else besides you, Seamus, Neville, and the many letters from Lacey that get delivered every week. You'd think she'd run out of parchment by now, or at least a boycott from her owl. I only got one letter from Lavender from Italy, which I'm sure you received one close to identical.

See you soon!

Dean Thomas

🗡🗡🗡

Reese,

Are you enjoying your break? I missed my family dearly, but I am greatly looking forward to another year at Hogwarts.

My parents and I took a road trip to the mountains, while I told them all about the magic of Hogwarts. They were amazed and are eager to learn more!

Our newly hired professor for Defense Against the Dark Arts has supplied us with an updated list of textbooks, and it is quite thrilling. I'll see you at Flourish and Blotts so we can see everything together! Have a great rest of your summer.

Regards,

Hermione Granger
