Diagon Alley

Marlene Mckinnon jumped out of her family's car. "Come on!" she yelled, while her brother Micheal and their father John got out of the red car as well. They were getting school supplies for Marlene's first- and Micheal's seventh year at Hogwarts, School for Witchcraft and Wizardry. Marlene had been to Diagon Alley countless times before, but somehow this time felt more special. A few days ago she got her letter for the school her family talked about all the time, and now the blonde girl couldn't wait to go there herself.

Marlene, Michael and their father walked through the Leaky Cauldron, the place where the entrance to Diagon Alley was hidden. When they arrived at that entrance John did some kind of magic thing with the wall Marlene had never understood. Then the bricks began to shift and a crowded street with shops on both sides revealed itself. Marlene looked around. She had never been here right before the school year started, and was surprised at how many people were there. "Where do you want to go first?" her dad asked. Marlene didn't have to think long. "Ollivanders," she said. She couldn't wait to have her own wand. Michael said goodbye to his father and sister, he was going to catch up with his friends.

Ollivanders was a small, dark shop in the corner of the long street. Although the rest of Diagon Alley was very crowded, no one was there except for Marlene, John and a man behind the counter who must have been Ollivander. He explained to Marlene that the wand chooses the wizard, so they were just going to try out a few different wands. Marlene had already heard most of this from her family, but she hadn't really understood until now. After a few tries a beautiful light brown wand turned out to be perfect for Marlene. Her father paid for it and they went outside again.

Two hours later they had gathered all of the stuff they needed. Marlene sat down on a wooden bench somewhere, while her father went to look for Michael. She was just admiring her beautiful new wand, when another girl sat next to her. Her skin and hair were dark, and she was quite pretty. She looked about Marlene's age. "Hi, I'm Marlene," Marlene said. The girl smiled and said: "I'm Dorcas." "Are you going to Hogwarts too?" "Yeah, I am!" Dorcas answered. Marlene then saw her father gesturing for her to come with him. "I have to go," she said. "See you at school!" Dorcas smiled once again and said: "Bye! See you at Hogwarts!"
