Chapter 1
June 28, 1979
Regulus had his priorities set straight all of his life. Keep your parents happy. Do NOT be like Sirius. Be the exemplar pure-blood wizard. And never defy the dark lord.
Even though somewhere deep inside he held a need of doing the exact opposite he, in comparison with Sirius (whose life looked like a fairytale), never, NEVER, did what he longed to do.
His life has been set in front of him by his parents and by the society he is expected to be part of. Sometimes he wished he was also sorted into Gryffindor like his brother but even then he most likely would not have any friends like the tree buffoons his brother loves so much. He wouldn't have the opportunity to run away from his family and live with his friend. Because if he ran away not only would he be on his own, his life would chase after him and he would find peace only in hell. Because he surely won’t go to heaven. It’s in his blood. His sick, disgusting blood.
But today he did something foolish. Not only did he think about doing something stupid. He also did it. Because between thinking of doing something and actually doing it is a strong wall that is called common sense. But when did a Black actually had common sense? His parents are cousins for goodness sake!
Something that is specifically in the Black family is not only the shortness of the man because on incest but also the anger issues everyone has. And when angry, people usually forget that common sense is a thing. And Regulus is not an exception.
So when Kreacher came back to him barely alive he lost it. Regulus asked the house-elf to explain exactly what happened and where the Dark Lord took him. He told him to make an exact copy of Slytherin's locket. And made him take him to the cave.
When they got there with a soft pop, Regulus made Kreacher tell him exactly what the Dark Lord made him do and so he did.
First, he opened the cave with his blood. Regulus made a long but not too deep slit on his leg and smudged the wall with it. Second, he and Kreacher made their way to the small boat that they used to get to the middle of the water. Then he made Kreacher give him the drink without stopping until he could get to the locket, switch it and then take him out of the cave on a close rock.
And this is how it went.
But the interesting thing was that when he drank the liquid all he saw was his brother a coward and old memories of Sirius being punished until he died.
But then in a matter of seconds, he was outside. Now he could hear the waves and the voices calmed down. He might be half dead but he realized it was night. Who knows what hour, and in his blurry mind all he could mutter to Kreacher was
“Take me to Godric's Hollow…to Sirius.”
