Hey Diary.
Today I met a 4th year girl named Wilma Bulstrode. She had been sitting all alone in a window seat when I walked by, so I said hello. She apparently had heard about me from someone or something because she looked up then blurted out “hey you’re Ava, the muggleborn in hufflepuff, right?” And when I nodded, she looked so relieved. And then she asked me about lucky charms.
I thought she meant the cereal, so I started to describe it, but she looked so baffled. Eventually she figured out that I was talking about something other than what she meant and so I started explaining about lucky objects like charm bracelets and rabbits feet and acorns and clovers…
Eventually we went down a figurative rabbits hole and I volunteered to teach her how to make a charm bracelet with beads and plastic charms. I had to bug the muggles studies professor (Mr. Caldwell!) for supplies, but he provided them.
After dinner we sat in an out of the way corner and made little charms out of shrinky dink. She was fascinated by the “muggle magic” that made it work. We each made a few charms and then I showed her about best friends charms. I helped her make another set of charms for her to share with a friend. Finally we strung them together, making bracelets.
She was so happy and grateful! Apparently I helped her with her project for muggle studies. She gave me a hug, gave me one of the charm bracelets she had made with me, and then dashed off.
The bracelet she gave me had a little niffler charm - one of her first shrinky dink attempts - holding a golden galleon, which she had told me wixenfolk consider lucky while she drew it.
I love my new bracelet and I’m so glad I could help her find a fun topic for her project!
