A starting point if nothing else

The delicious aroma of breakfast crept through the cracks and his door and revived him.

He was worried for a moment, as Sirius and Remus couldn't cook nearly as good as this (if at all), but he eventually realised the true cooking culprit when the events of last night flooded back to him.

He was filled with relief to know that Draco and Dobby would live a good life this time around. He knew that Draco loved his mother, wife and son in the future but he experienced so much pain and anguish as well. Harry didn't want to keep the little boy away from his mother for too long but she needed to raise him away from Lucius. Hopefully, the support he had offered her would be enough for her to leave the hateful coward forever.

Unable to ignore the beautiful scents gracing his nose, he pulled on some fresh clothes and had a quick wash before making his way towards the kitchen.

As soon as he stepped foot in the kitchen, he was greeted by the unimpressed but unsurprised stares of Remus and Sirius. They said nothing but didn't look away as he made his way towards Dobby, who was cooking at the stove.

Dobby jumped slightly as he wrapped his arms around him. "Dobby still isn't being used to Harry's nice hugs."

"Don't worry, we'll work on it," Harry reassured him. "What can I help with?"

"Help?"

"Well, yeah. I don't expect you to do everything on your own. Besides, whatever you're cooking smells good so I know it'll be nice. I want to thank you for that."

"Dobby doesn't need help, Harry. Cooking is Dobby's job."

"Not anymore, Dobby. Not here. You're free now. You're here as family, not our slave and not out servant. That means you aren't the one who has to do all the chores. You don't have to do any, if you don't want. I know you've done enough for a lifetime."

Dobby looked insulted that Harry would ever insinuate that Dobby wouldn't do any more chores.

Harry just chuckled sadly as he started getting plates out.

Remus looked on as Harry introduced the two new members of their 'family'. The air was tense- their argument from the night before at the front of their minds.

Draco, Sirius' second cousin, got along well enough with the other kids but he seemed especially close with Dudley. The two seemed to understand each other in the way other people couldn't. Remus had seem that before in many people. Young Harry and Young Neville were quite close as well. They liked to be near each other. They reminded him of the Marauders before everything fell apart. He knew that they would be forever for a long time. They would be brothers just like James, Remus, Sirius and-.

Dobby, the Malfoy's house elf, was nothing like Sirius' description of Kreacher. He loved Harry's hugs and watched over the little ones to make sure that they were safe and happy. Harry introduced Dobby as 'Uncle Dobby', just like he had done with Sirius and Remus, which made Dobby start sobbing.

Despite Remus' mixed feelings about Harry's questionable solutions, he could admit that the man was just trying to make the people he wanted to protect as happy as they could be.

Remus shared a glance with Sirius as they leaned against the counter in the kitchen. They had lost so much in such little time yet gained more than they ever had. Their friends were long dead or a traitor and there was no going back from that. They had gained another chance at having a family though, no matter how dysfunctional, and they were going to cherish it.

They knew that there was a lot more to come for the new family because they were a family founded on secrets.

It didn't matter in that moment though.

They had each other and that was all that mattered.
