Goodbye to the past
Harry looked at the freshly dug earth in barely-concealed sadness.
It had been a great day and yet, at this moment, it felt like one of the worst moments of his entire life.
He had always wanted a proper way to say goodbye to his mum and dad, something he never thought he'd have. Now that he has the chance he doesn't know what to do.
When Hermione and him were in the graveyard at Godric's Hollow, he had made peace with his parents' deaths and had said goodbye in the only way he could. He had even seen the ghosts of his parents the day before Voldemort killed him.
Those things weren't the same as their funeral though.
It had been a difficult day for all of them, not just Harry.
Remus and Sirius had helped them plan the funeral and he couldn't be more grateful. They knew who his parent's were friends with. They knew what they liked and disliked. They had nice stories that they could share.
What could Harry do?
Exactly.
Nothing.
He knew that his parents were popular but he wasn't expecting everyone who showed up.
Harry, Sirius and Remus were there of course, along with the children. Remus and Sirius were stood next to him, on the right. They were embraced as they cried over their closest friends. Little Harry, Neville and Dudley were sat on a nearby bench with Petunia, who was mourning her sister from the privacy of the bench.
Other members of the Order showed up as well. (Not Dumbledore though. He wasn't invited.)
This meant that Molly Weasley, Arthur Weasley and their three eldest sons- Bill Weasley, Charlie Weasley and Percy Weasley-had come. They had obviously decided that the twins, Ron and Ginny shouldn't attend the funeral.
Aberforth, Rubeus, Moody, Mrs Figg, Elphias Doge, Emmeline Vance, and Dedalus Diggle were there as well.
Their Hogwarts Professors were invited and most showed up. He wasn't sure how they could all attend because someone needs to supervise the children back at Hogwarts. He knew that wouldn't miss it though. Minerva, as their Head of House, Vice Principal and Transfiguration professor, was understandably very close to the mischievous marauder and the hard-working Lily. Horace also came to mourn one of his favourite students. Flitwick, Sprout, Sinistra and Hooch also came to say their goodbyes.
Classmates of theirs turned up. There weren't as many classmates because a lot had died in the war. Harry didn't recognise most of them but there were a few familiar faces. Andromeda, Ted and Tonks turned up out of respect but he knows that they weren't that close to The Potter Family. Someone that Harry wasn't expecting to turn up was Pandora Lovegood. He easily recognised her because she was there with her husband and looked like Luna. Severus was invited to pay his respects to his old best friend and gladly turned up.
Harry wanted to use this day to do the thing he had never gotten to do: say goodbye to the people he didn't get enough time with. However, he also saw that this was the perfect opportunity to set his plan in motion.
The first thing he did was introduce himself and his family. They all knew him as Hadrian Ebonymarauderé. It was a name that he thought up on the spot. He obviously wanted to keep his first name. He considered going by James Ebonymarauderé but he would respond more naturally to Harry. Plus, he could spin the tale that he was a family friend who Harry James Potter was named after. He told everyone that he had four children, three of which were here. He introduced Dudley as Koru Evan Ebonymarauderé, Harry as Jamie Hadrian Ebonymarauderé and Neville as Franklin Trevor Marauderé.
The Hogwarts professors about what they were like when they were in school and in turn, he told them domestic tales about them and Harry (imputing himself into the stories). The Order talked about how brave and strong they were and in return. he talked about what really happened that night on Halloween. Their classmates discussed his dad's longing and love for his mother, the mischief he would get up to, Lily's practically unconditional kindness and their intelligence and skill.
The Weasleys only knew his mum and dad through the order but that didn't stop them from talking. Molly and Bill recognised him from that day in Diagon Alley and therefore introduced him to the others (more like he introduced him to them himself because he had never given them a name. He talked about The Potters and their son (who is also thought to be dead) and they talked about their family. Bill excitedly talked about the family's new owl Twyl, who had become the subject of interest in their family. They talked until The Weasleys had to go back home. They parted with the promise of a visit in the near future.
Slowly but surely, guests started to leave until it was just the small family left.
"So," started Remus with a knowing smirk, "I see you've found a name then. Inspired was it?"
"Shut up," Harry muttered, trying and failing to hide his smile.
"What? What are you talking about?" Sirius asked but received no answer. "Guys! What do you mean? Name? Inspired? Come on, tell me!"
The two just rolled their eyes fondly as they each picked up a child.
"Let's go home."
