Unexpected
Sherlock entered the vacant place, and was surprised to find it wasn’t vacant at all!
The room abounded with noise and commotion as people talked and had drinks, much like most pubs. But what immediately struck Sherlock was how everyone in the room was wearing cloaks.
Why couldn’t I hear and see this from the outside?
Looking around, Sherlock noticed the windows were covered, so it was possible that the outside of this place was just really run down. But wouldn’t he be able to hear all this noise? Perhaps the walls were just really thick.
However, that still didn’t explain their clothes.
Sherlock didn’t quite have time to contemplate that, for it was at that moment John came back.
He rushed in, looking dashingly handsome —shut up Sherlock— and dragging along a handcuffed criminal.
Something about that sent a rush of relief on Sherlock, and it wasn’t just that John was safe or the criminal was caught.
He doesn’t know what he expected. What? Did he expect him to come in flying on a broomstick? Maybe surrounded by crows? No, no. This was no different than any other case.
That’s what Sherlock mentally repeated to himself as he returned to his lodging by John’s side, after giving the criminal to the police, of course.
