You sat at your table during potions class right next to Draco Malfoy. You couldn’t stand him. His smug face always ready to insult someone and he did it to you multiple times.
“Hey. Hey L/N.” You rolled your eyes.
“Yes, Malfoy?”
“I was today years old when I realized I don’t like you.”
“The feelings mutual Malfoy, only I knew that from the day I met you.” The smug look faltered for a minute.
“Oh you don’t like being treated the same way as you do? That sucks.” You said. He grumbled and looked back at his cauldron. You had won, for now.
A couple hours later, you were sat outside working on your homework when Draco came walking up to you.
“Hey L/N, mind if I join you?” You looked flabbergasted.
“Umm, why?” You asked suspiciously. “Got another joke in you.”
“What, no. I wanted to do homework with you.”
“So you can copy me?”
“No, I’d do my own work. Why do you question me so much?”
“Because I don’t trust you.”
“I know I’m intimidating, but I’m not that bad.”
“Intimidating? You are not Intimidating, I’m worn down, You don’t scare me. you exhaust me.”
“I didn’t know that what I was doing could potentially hurt you.” Draco said softly.
“How?” You squinted at him. “How do you not know that rude comments hurt. Or spells that grow someone’s teeth like with Hermione are embarrassing. That shit hurts.” he swallowed hard.
“I’ve been a real prick, haven’t I?”
“That’s putting it lightly.” You sighed. Draco stood up straight.
“I want to apologize for my behavior, my comments and embarrassing spells.”
“Why now?” You asked confused.
“I want to do better. Right my mistakes.”
“Right. Well I need to see that for myself. I can’t take your word for it.”
“I’ll prove it to you. Promise.” You raised your eyebrows before turning back to your homework, now ignoring Draco.
The following morning you sat down at your house’s table. Still tired, you grabbed for some bread, buttered it and started chewing it. But before you could take a second bite, Draco appeared next to you.
“I saved you some pumpkin pie, if you want it.”
“Umm, sure.” You cautioned. “That’s nice of you.” A bit nervous about whether the pie was poisoned or not.
“See you in potions.” He said, before turning back to his own seat. You blinked. What just happened.
The rest of the morning went by very normally, but you were already nervous for potions. The Pie seemed okay, no boils all over your body, no throwing up, but maybe he wants me to lower my walls so he can attack me when my walls are down. Either way, you didn’t trust him.
“Need me to clean out your cauldron” Draco asked, once the two of you were sat in potion’s class.
“No, it’s already clean, but thank you.” You cautioned, thanking him felt weird, he didn’t deserve praise.
“Need me to cut up your gillyweed?”
“No, I can do it.” You answered, still surprised by his generosity.
A little while later, he tried again to help you.
“Want me to help with your potion?” Draco asked hopefully.
“No, I’m perfectly capable of doing it myself.” You snapped. You hated yourself for acting this way, but his kindness was making you nervous.
“Sorry, that wasn’t nice of me.”
“I get it though, I’ve never been nice to you. Why would you trust me now? right?”
“Why are you so nice to me now?” Draco looked around aimlessly, his hands playing with his robes.
“Draco?” You pressed.
“I might havestartedlikingyou.”
“Sorry, got none of that.” He took a deep breath.
“I might have started liking you.”
“Oh.” You said, raising your eyebrows.
“Is there a possibility that you might like me back?” He whispered.
“I mean, not right now. I still have to get used to you being this nice. But I would like to go to hogsmeade with you.”
“That would be great.”
“Okay, it’s a date.” You said confidently. You noticed the blush on Draco’s cheeks and it gave you butterflies.
