Chapter 19
To get the family he always wanted:
Even though many people were busy, rebuilding everything after the death of Voldemort and his death eaters. Many people took the time to relax but also get used to a wizarding world that had changed completely.
Pure-bloods used to run the wizarding community in Great Britain but many of them died as they had been supporters of Voldemort. Others got locked up for life in Azkaban. Now it was the half-bloods who basically had the numbers with muggleborns second, there was only a small amount of pure-bloods left but those pure-bloods were not supporters or thought pure-bloods were better.
Harry Potter, the saviour of the wizarding world spent the first few months after the battle of Hogwarts just relaxing. He did live at Grimmauld Place but spent most of his time either with his godson and Andromeda or at the Burrow with the Weasley’s and his friends, it also including spending alone time with his girlfriend, Ginny Weasley. They had resumed their relationship a few days after leaving Hogwarts.
Hermione had relaxed for two weeks before she decided to see if there was a way to restore her parents memories. She spoke with obliviators in the ministry of magic before her and Ron went to Australia to speak with the obliviators there. The Granger’s were able to have their memories restored and even though they were angry with their daughter for what she did, they did understand that they would have been in more danger than most since they weren’t magical but had a witch daughter who was right involved in a war. The Granger’s decided to remain in Australia so Hermione and Ron stayed for a few weeks before they returned to England. Hermione was given enough money so she could support herself until she could get work.
After a big welcome home dinner for Hermione and Ron, Harry finally got to ask Hermione all about Australia. He had been thinking that country might make a good honeymoon location. Hermione went into a lot of detail about the country, the muggle part and the wizarding part. Ron mainly spoke about the beaches and all the half naked girls he saw on the beach. That naturally made Harry laugh and Hermione purse her lips.
It was early the following morning that Hermione woke. She was normally an early riser but she woke up earlier than normal. She believed it was just her body getting used to the time difference. After cleaning up and dressing, she quietly made her way downstairs. She kept quiet as she knew most of the people in the Burrow would still be asleep.
As Hermione was about to enter the kitchen, she heard Ginny and her mother talking. What Hermione heard made her furious. At first she planned to confront both the Weasley woman but then she heard how they would be happy to obliviate anyone, including a healer so they could keep their secret. Even though Molly would have liked Ginny to change her mind, she knew her daughter and knew her daughter wanted a quidditch career. She had been looking forward to having Harry as a son-in-law, so she decided to keep Ginny’s secret.
Hermione snuck back up to the room she was using, ‘I can’t allow them to do that to Harry,’ Hermione paced the room while she worked on a way to tell Harry what she heard, but she also knew her friend. Once Harry heard the truth, his relationship with Ginny would be over. Hermione could not and would not allow Molly and Ginny to obliviate or trick Harry. She was wondering if she should speak with someone like Kingsley. He might be the minister but he was also a friend. He also really liked Harry. She would wait to speak with Harry before she would make a decision. She did think of ways to help Harry but she still had to speak with him.
It took her more than an hour to get a basic plan to help Harry. Now she just had to hope Harry went along with it. She knew he would leave, one way or another, they just had to plan everything right.
It took hours before Hermione was able to get Harry alone. Hermione made sure she kept hold of Harry’s hand and walked away from the Burrow. All Harry knew was she needed to tell him something important and no one could know. Harry trusted his friend so he went with her without arguing.
Hermione stopped near a big tree and when Harry looked around he knew that no one at the Burrow would see them.
‘We could have just used my invisibility cloak if we wanted to make sure no one saw us.’
‘I know but I also wanted to make sure no one heard us but we could see if anyone was coming out way.’
‘Alright, what’s so important that we had to sneak away?’
‘I’m sorry Harry but what I have to tell you will upset you. But I won’t allow anyone to use you or lie to you.’
‘So someone plans to lie to me and use me?’
‘Yes. I overheard a conversation. At first I was going to confront them until I heard more. I was even thinking of speaking to Kingsley in case these people tried something.’
‘Don’t go all Dumbledore on me Hermione, just tell me and knowing you, we’ll be making plans on top of the plans you’ve already made.’
Hermione smiled at Harry for already trusting her.
‘I woke early, earlier than I normally would. I wasn’t surprised that Mrs Weasley was awake but I was surprised that Ginny was also awake.’
‘So you heard Ginny and her mother talking, about me?’
‘Yes. Now at first I thought Mrs Weasley would go off at Ginny about what she wanted but she ended up agreeing to help her and lie to you.’
‘Alright, so tell me what they were talking about.’
‘Ginny knows you want children and you’ve said you would like two minimum but four would be better.’
‘Right and I have a feeling Ginny will go with two, not four.’
‘Harry, Ginny doesn’t want any children and plans to tell you, with the help of her mother and some fake records from a healer, that due to some injury she got during the Battle of Hogwarts, she cannot conceive. She won’t give up marrying you but knows you wouldn’t marry her if she couldn’t or wouldn’t have children. She can conceive, they are just going to lie about it.’
‘So I would be stuck in a marriage without having any family of my own.’ Harry growled.
‘Yes. We were told about magical marriages, how they are for life. It’s why I told Ron I need time, a lot of time. We argued so much that I want to make sure we’re going to make it before committing to a magical marriage. He refused point blank to get married in the muggle world, where we could divorce. At least he agreed that we should take some time.’
‘So I have to break it off with her now.’
‘That’s the other thing I heard. Both Ginny and Mrs Weasley said they would obliviate you if they had to and use a love potion on you. Both are determined that you will be married to Ginny before the year is out.’
‘I saved her life and this is how she plans to treat me?’ Harry growled again, ‘Tell me what you have planned.’
‘Easy, you leave and live in the muggle world. You know the Weasley’s can’t navigate the muggle world. You said you won’t work for the ministry and since you’re too young to be a teacher, there isn’t many other jobs you can get unless its working in a shop.’
‘I already figured I would see about some hobbies to keep me occupied since I have money. I don’t have the muggle education to get a decent job in the muggle world. I am going to study both magic and muggle subjects just so I can learn. I know I can now I don’t have to worry about what’s going to happen. I also thought of going to night class or something which might help find work in the muggle world. That was long term plans. Anyway, I do plan to invest in some muggle companies and some properties. I just haven’t really had time to look at any. Alright, so I leave, I’ll have to sneak away so they don’t try anything. I want us to stay in touch though.’
‘We can set up a post box a muggle post office, then meet up when I can make sure I don’t make them suspicious.’
‘What about Ron? If I stay in touch with him, he might tell his sister and mother.’
‘Yes, I haven’t figured that part out yet. We can work on that later for now we just don’t tell him. We need to get you away soon. Once we’re worked on other plans, maybe we could use the fidelius charm then tell Ron. He won’t be able to tell anyone then. We’ll get to that later. Now, even though you and Ginny said you’ll be married, you haven’t begun to work on plans. I thought you could leave, then write a letter to all of us saying that you realised you needed some time alone and away from everything that reminds you of what you went through. You could also write that you’re just not ready for marriage. You’re only about to turn nineteen, that is young. You want to be settled into adult life and be at least ten years older. Whether that’s true or not, it doesn’t matter. We just have to make them believe it. But the main part is making them believe you left because you needed to get away for a while.’
‘I was thinking of going away but Ginny told me her parents wouldn’t allow her to go and she didn’t want to be away from me, not now we’re back together. I really thought it would do me good to get away for a while. I knew I had to wait until the trials were over since I had to give testimonies on a lot of them. Okay, so I can afford to stay in a muggle hotel until I find a home. I’ll have to open a muggle bank account then go to Gringotts so they can transfer my money over. Even if they somehow find me, they would not know how to work muggle banks. Blimey I’m glad I don’t have to deal with goblins anymore.’
‘No, they would do anything to prevent you making that transfer. But I would leave some in Gringotts Harry so no one gets suspicious, just enough to keep your vaults open. They might believe you’re about to go overseas or leave and never return if you emptied them completely. No one can know or it could get back to Ginny and Mrs Weasley. If you ever need to go into Diagon alley, then you use muggle disguises so no one will recognise you.’
‘That’s a really good idea. Okay, we need to plan this so everything goes perfectly.’
‘Which means taking a few days. You’ll have to act like you know nothing and nothing has changed between you and Ginny.’
‘She’s used to me going off on my own when I visit my parents house or their graves. I can do that and just stay away a little longer. But I got used to acting different ways Hermione, I’m sure I can pull it off. Will you be able too?’
‘Yes, since I’m not directly involved, I could easily act like I don’t know anything. I could also explain how I believe you should have gone away for a while, whether alone or with Ginny. You’ve had a lot of danger and hardship over the years. Getting away from all those memories would help.’
‘Alright, you could easily pull it off. So let’s work on some here while we have time, then we’ll return and work on more separately. If we know roughly the plan than we can work on things separately until we get a chance to get together without Ron or Ginny.’
It only took Harry and Hermione two days to work on some plans, the rest can be done once Harry was away from Ginny and the wizarding world. Ron knew Hermione liked to go into the muggle world to get muggle books. He hated being in the muggle world especially the muggle library that Hermione went to often. Hermione usually went alone and Ron stayed at the Burrow. Hermione could easily send Harry a letter when she was alone in the muggle world. Harry did say he would have a muggle house which means he would eventually get a phone. Hermione could hide one of those mobile phones so if she need to, she would keep it on vibrate but most of the time she could ring him.
Right now Harry and Hermione decided not to tell Ron anything about what his mother and sister were going to do. They also knew it meant Harry had to completely cut Ron from his life. They weren’t sure if Ron would say something to his mother and sister so it was safer to just not tell him anything. Ron had a habit of speaking before thinking so breaking away from Ron was the best thing for Harry. They didn’t want to take the chance that they could somehow change or get around the fidelius charm. Both Harry and Hermione knew that Ron would always support his family over anyone else. This would be no different even if Ginny and Molly were in the wrong.
When Harry said he was going to his parents home, he didn’t. He went to the muggle world, opened a bank account with five thousand pounds, then headed to Gringotts. Even though he was leaving some money in one of his vaults, he transferred the whole amount of money from the other two. The woman who was helping Harry said that many half-blood’s that spend time in both worlds have actually done the same as Harry. It makes it easier having either muggle money or wizard money, depending on where the person was. She also mentioned that most buy homes in the muggle world, so they would need more than normal changed to muggle money or transferred to a muggle bank.
Harry also booked a hotel room for a month but it wasn’t in London. That was the only city that the Weasley’s had been too even if they hadn’t seen more than just a small part of it. Harry decided he would stay in Wales as he found out that his mother’s father had been born there.
Once he was ready to leave, which would be during the night when everyone was asleep, he gave Hermione a nod during dinner. She knew it meant when she woke up the following morning Harry would be gone. Harry had planned to post a letter with an owl from Hogsmeade early in the morning then just apparate away to Wales. The letter would be addressed to Hermione and in the letter he wrote that she seemed to be the only one to understand that he needed to get away for a while. He wrote he would probably be gone for six months minimum but more like a year.
It was easy for Harry to sneak away. Since he had been living at Grimmauld Place and only visiting the Burrow, no one at the Burrow would realise he was gone until they received Harry’s letter, that he was leaving for a while. Harry already had the letter written when he left his godfather’s house. He went straight to Hogsmeade where he paid for a post owl to deliver his letter to Hermione at the Burrow. The moment the owl left, Harry apparated away. That would be the last time many people saw Harry Potter.
Time skip:
No one, apart from Hermione Granger and Neville Longbottom ever heard from Harry Potter. After the first letter, which was delivered the morning he had disappeared, as far as anyone knew, no one heard from him for another year. Hermione and Harry talked often and even met up, with Harry disguised so no one would recognise him in case someone followed Hermione. They already worked on a story if anyone in the wizarding world saw Hermione talking to a strange man. He was one of her muggle cousins, on her father’s side. Hermione had give Harry a fair bit of information on her cousin so Harry would know what to say.
It was a year after he left that Harry did write, he said he still wasn’t ready to return. After that, only Neville received letters but they went into more details about his life now he was away. Harry and Hermione always talked on the phone. Both Hermione and Neville guaranteed that no one will know that they were in contact with Harry.
A few times over the following year, Hermione and Neville did visit Harry but Neville did only a couple of times. They did not want to take the chance that someone could track them. Hermione mainly met Harry in one of the many muggle libraries around Great Britain. Being able to apparate made it easy on her and Harry.
Hermione also broke up with Ron a year after Harry disappeared. He kept blaming Harry for his sister being hurt. Hermione knew the truth. She couldn’t tell Ron but he refused to listen to anything anyone said. She ended up staying at Grimmauld place until she got work. She would get her own flat later on.
It was fifteen years later that a photo appeared on the front page of Witch Weekly. It was a picture of Harry Potter, with his wife and four children. Apart from Harry’s letter about his life since he left the wizarding world. He did release the information on the reason he left. That Ginny and Molly Weasley would going to lie to Harry to make him believe that after Harry married Ginny, she could not conceive due to an injury she had received during he Battle of Hogwarts. Ginny knew Harry wanted children yet she was going to lie to Harry by saying she couldn’t just because she didn’t want kids but still wanted to marry Harry. Molly Weasley went along with it because she wanted Harry as her son-in-law. None of the other Weasley’s were involved in those plans but Ron was trying to make Harry out to be a man who only used his family.
Harry wrote that he had enough people turn on him or betray him, he wasn’t going to put up with that anymore, so he left. He had saved Ginny Weasley’s life, when he was only twelve, then saved Arthur and Ron’s life a few years later and this was how Molly, Ginny and Ron were treating him. He wasn’t going to put up with those type of people, not anymore, so he left. He met the woman who would become his wife only a year after he left. She wanted a family and was just waiting until she met the right man. She did, in Harry Potter.
When the story came out, Ginny lost her position on the quidditch team, Ron also lost his job since everyone heard how bad he spoke about Harry hurting his sister. Molly was sent so many cursed letters she now had to wait for her husband to get home before he could open the letters. Those three Weasley’s found their lives had gone down hill from then on.
It was not long after everyone found out why Harry left, that more pictures appeared of the Potter family in the Quibbler. These pictures showed that Harry was still close to Hermione Granger, Neville Longbottom along with many others.
Harry did receive a lot of mail after his statement, most were supporting him, like the minister for magic and the staff at Hogwarts.
Harry never returned to the wizarding world. Most believed he would return when his children began at Hogwarts. No letter for any of the Potter children was ever sent. Many had begun to wonder if maybe the Potter children were squibs. They weren’t. Harry had worked on a ward to stop the ministry from ever picking up magic down by someone under the age of seventeen. He had taken his family overseas and was able to get them all wands. He and his wife, Mira, taught their children magic of an afternoon after their normal education.
The odd picture or story came out about Harry and his family but from the time he found out what the two Weasley woman were going to do. Most of the wizarding world never saw the saviour again. All they knew was, Harry Potter was happy and finally had the family he always wanted.
