Chapter 4
He’s a fool:
Harry Potter listened to Albus Dumbledore explain about the prophecy and how he, Harry was the only one who could kill Voldemort.
It didn’t take long before Harry began laughing. Albus’s brow furrowed in confusion. He couldn’t work out why this young man was laughing. He did wonder if maybe hearing the prophecy was too much for the boy.
Harry just couldn’t stop laughing. Every time he looked at the man he would begin laughing harder than before. One thing he knew, the man before him really didn’t know him at all.
‘Harry, my boy, what do you find so amusing?’
It took Harry a few minutes before he got himself under control. He knew one thing, Dumbledore would never know the truth about why he had been laughing.
‘Don’t worry about it Dumbledore. You really wouldn’t understand. Right now, I need some time to myself and I mean I need a couple of days without anyone bothering me. I have a lot of thinking to do and I need to process what I saw and what you said. So how about you stop keeping me a prisoner and let me out.’
‘I really believe we need to discuss this.’
‘I’m not going to discuss anything with you or listen to you until I get some time alone,’ Harry moved until he stood near the door, he was also facing the door with his back to the old man. No matter what Albus said, Harry didn’t respond nor did he turn around. It took more than half an hour before he heard Dumbledore sigh, the door finally opened and Harry walked out.
Harry headed straight to the seventh floor. He had some plans to make but he also needed to get his head together. He also realised he should eat and rest.
Harry entered the room of requirement to see a nice living type of room, along with a bed but there was also a bathroom through another door.
‘Dobby,’ Harry only waited a few seconds before the hyperactive house elf appeared before him.
‘Harry Potter sir call Dobby.’
‘I did, I need to know if you can do some things for me, I’ll pay you if you can.’
‘Dobby do anything for the great Harry Potter.’
‘Great, first, go and bring my trunk, broom, just bring me all my things from the dorm room please.’
‘Dobby be quick Harry Potter sir.’
Again Harry didn’t have to wait long until Dobby returned with all his things. Harry then asked Dobby to bring him some food along with tea and juice.
While Dobby went to the Hogwarts kitchens, Harry got the small notebook that was in the bottom of his trunk, along with a pen. Harry often took notes using the pen and notebook when he was in class. He really hated quills and because he knew what he was going to do, he went back to using what he preferred.
Once Dobby returned, Harry began eating but he did ask Dobby if he would work for him, full time. The excitable house elf agreed so he ended up sitting beside Harry while he explained to Dobby some of what he worked out.
‘For the next day or so, I’ll be here, using this room. It has everything I need until I’m ready. But I will need you to go to Gringotts for me and empty my vault. I want three quarters of it changed into muggle money.’ Harry handed over his key, ‘Get a money pouch from the goblins, one that is charmed to hold as much as you want. Then, go get a wizard tent like a three bedroom house.’ Harry continued to explain to Dobby what he needed, but he could take his time. Dobby was also asked to speak with Hedwig. His faithful owl could leave Hogwarts now and find Harry in a few days. Post owls never had any trouble finding their owners, even if they were in the muggle world.
No one saw Harry over the next two days. He had no idea that almost all of wizarding Britain were feeling ashamed for believing the lies that the Daily Prophet printed about Harry, all on Fudge’s orders. Many turned up at the ministry and began throwing rotten food at the minister along with any of his staff. The aurors stood back and just let it happen. Fudge had prevented them from doing their jobs, which caused the deaths of many. They were not going to help Fudge now he had been caught lying.
Harry’s friends had spoken with the headmaster and all he told them was what Harry said. He needed time alone and didn’t want to be disturbed. Hermione, Ron and Ginny thought Harry was like this because Sirius died. They didn’t know that was only part of the reason Harry wanted time alone. Neville just hoped Harry was okay. Luna knew she would not see her friend again. She also knew she had to speak with her father about leaving the country as it would no longer be safe.
The day the students were due to leave, Albus was waiting in the entrance way. He needed to speak with Harry before he headed home. He thought for sure he would have seen the young man and he was beginning to worry.
Albus didn’t know it but Harry had been gone from Hogwarts for four days. He wouldn’t find out that Harry had left and his reasons for leaving until after the Hogwarts express reached Kings Cross station.
Dobby was going to leave Harry’s letter on Dumbledore’s desk, but there would be another letter stuck to the table at Grimmauld place, stuck with a timed sticking charm. It would not be able to be removed for a month. Harry wanted to make sure that the order realised by listening to Albus Dumbledore that caused Harry to leave. Another letter would be stuck to the wall in Diagon alley and one in the atrium of the ministry.
Harry wanted the wizarding world to know that because of everybody’s actions towards him from the time his parents had been murdered, he wasn’t going to help them against Voldemort. He was done being a hero to people who turned on him, that harassed him, for lying about him, for allowing Snape to act the way he did when that death eater should be in Azkaban. That man was the reason Voldemort went to his home and killed his parents.
The letter went on. It explain how his so called friends turned on him and they just expect him to forgive them. He did, at first, but they continued to give their loyalty to the old man and not their friend. He wrote that he had no one and he hadn’t since his parents died. Harry had a real bitch in his letter but he wanted everyone to realise that he finally said enough. People could only take so much before they could not take anymore. Harry reached that, so now, they were on their own.
By the time everyone saw one of the letters from Harry Potter, he would be making sure no one from the English wizarding world would ever find him.
Harry had done some research on the wizarding part of Australia. He wanted to know if it was like England, where pure-bloods ran their country or if all witches and wizards were equal. He did find out that there are no pure-bloods and that all magicals were just that, magical. He also found out that they did not have restrictions on underage magic. So far, everything he found out was what Harry hoped it was like. That’s when he knew he had finally found a place that suited him.
Albus Dumbledore just sat at the table in Grimmauld place while everyone kept shouting or arguing. It was Mad-eye that told Albus that he had been wrong with every decision he made for Harry Potter from the time Lily and James were murdered. Now the only person who could kill Voldemort had disappeared but he also said he wouldn’t help. Being muggle raised, the boy could disappear into the millions of muggles. If he left the country, it could mean he would be impossible to find, especially in the muggle world. There were billions of muggles around the world. From the time Harry left Albus’ office, he probably left Hogwarts. He had a six day head start, which meant Harry could be anywhere. There is no way to find him.
It was true, while the order were talking, Harry had just landed in Sydney, Australia. No one from the wizarding world in England would ever see him again, or the ones that survive would never see him again. Many would try to find him, Hermione was given that job since she was a muggleborn and knew the muggle world.
Hermione was like a lot of people in England and in the wizarding world. She believed Harry would remain in the country and secretly help. She did not believe Harry would leave the country of his birth. She suggested that they put Harry’s parents graves under surveillance as she believed that sooner or later, Harry would turn up there. He would probably go of a night and use his invisibility cloak to stay hidden. Most of the order agreed with her but wanted her to do some checking in the muggle world, to find out for sure if he had left the country or not. They just needed to know, one way or another.
Hermione knew that meant using magic to find out if Harry used a train or a plane to leave England yet she couldn’t use magic to view the security tapes as magic could affect the equipment. It would mean finding the security room, petrifying the people in there then watch the video’s. She would also need to obliviate the muggles before she left. It would take a long time for her to do that since she would only be able to do a couple of hours a day and she needed to watch the video’s of the last six days, but also tomorrow since that is when she would begin. Harry might not have left straight away, if he left at all. She still believed he would be hiding somewhere in England so she believed this was a waste of time.
There was no Harry Potter that took a train or plane. She checked for names like Harry Evans, Harry James, Harry Black. She even checked for James Evans, Evan James, James Black or Evan Black. Hermione knew if Harry was going to use another name, he would keep his link to his parents.
Harry had also had Dobby do another job for him, since the elf now belonged to him, Dobby could do more. Hermione might have been right about Harry’s parents but he would not visit them. Harry had Dobby remove his parents bodies and had them buried in Australia. Harry used magic to bury them and add a headstone. He then made sure the old church had the records of James and Lily Potter’s graves.
Dobby had also cleaned out the house of everything and all that was now stored in a storage shed Harry had hired. Since only Harry could enter the house, unless it was a Potter owned house elf, no one would realise everything was gone. Also, Dobby made sure the Potter headstone remained and didn’t look disturbed so no one would know James and Lily’s bodies had been moved.
Harry had thought of using a mixture of his parents and Sirius’ name. He realised it would be too easy to figure out it was him especially for people like Dumbledore, Remus and Hermione. He picked a normal muggle name and made those fake papers while he was at Hogwarts. He used Marcus Hayward, nineteen. He had dyed his hair and when he created the fake papers, he made sure the picture would show blue eyes that looked good with his blond hair. Sometimes he had had been told that when he moved his head or the light caught his glasses, his green eyes looked blue. But his fake papers also had a confundus charm on them so no one would say anything, just let him through onto the plane. There was no scar was showing either as he covered it with makeup. It wouldn’t matter who checked to see if Harry used a fake name, they would never find him with his fake look. He planned to get rid of the scar completely but for now, makeup worked well enough.
It was six months before Albus decided to check the house in Godric’s Hollow along with the Potter’s graves. The order who were watching the grave yard all said the same thing, no witch or wizard entered the cemetery. Albus had used Harry’s blood to sealed the house, but he did make sure he could get in, if he needed. Since he was a very secured house, Albus thought Harry might just be hiding there.
Albus stared around at the completely empty house. He searched every room, cast many spells, there was no sign that Harry was there and no witch or wizard had been there for a very long time. He must have been there to remove everything but so far, the spells Albus used was showing him that no witch or wizard had been there, which meant that Harry was here a long time ago, probably right after he left. Albus did not think to check the magical signature of a magical creature, like house elves.
Albus decided to check the graveyard. One spell revealed there were no bodies in the Potter’s grave. Albus truly believed that Harry Potter had left the country and he knew there would be no way to find him. He returned to Grimmauld place to explain to everyone what he had found.
‘He really left,’ Ron said then turned to stare at Hermione, ‘You said he wouldn’t.’
‘He might have just moved his parents bodies so no one could use them. He probably hid them in one of the thousands of muggle cemetery. I stick to what I said, he would be here and he will help but in secret.’
‘I’m sorry Hermione but I no longer believe that. As Harry told me once, he has no family, no ties. There is nothing keeping him in this country,’ Albus sighed as he got up, ‘We will need to forget looking for him and concentrate on how we can stop Tom and his followers.’
Marcus Hayward had bought himself a nice size single story house that overlooked the pacific ocean. After he furnished it, he began to think about what he was going to do. The money he had left, from his vault and the one Sirius left him, would last up to twenty years, if he didn’t buy anything expensive. The house was different, he needed a proper home. He hadn’t known that Sirius left him his vault, until Dobby went to Gringotts. Griphook had handed Dobby a letter to give to his master. Once Marcus read the copy of Sirius’ will, he had Dobby return to Gringotts and once again, clean out the vault.
Marcus decided not to interact with the wizarding world very often. He decided to go to night classes, get his normal education up to scratch. He would have time to figure out what he wanted to do while he was studying.
Marcus didn’t know it but not long after he settled in Australia, the Dursley’s had been killed along with Dudley’s friends who had been at the house when Voldemort and his death eaters attacked. Vernon, Petunia and Marge had been tortured for information before they were killed, then Bellatrix had fun with Dudley and his friends. The dark mark had been left above the house.
By the time Marcus bought his house, Voldemort had control of the ministry. Even though the order of the phoenix still used Grimmauld place, Hogwarts was also used for anyone that needed somewhere to hide. Voldemort had tried to get into Hogwarts many times, so far he hadn’t had much luck.
Once Marcus began to get into a routine, he did get the odd overseas newspapers to find out what was going on. After a few months and nothing about Voldemort was written, he stopped buying them. He really wanted to put that part of his life to rest and just forget about Voldemort, Hogwarts, Dumbledore and everyone else back in England. He was starting a new life, one that was a long way from the United Kingdom. It was time that Harry Potter completely put everything and everyone from his old life to rest. He could finally get the life he always hoped to have, a safe life as Marcus Evan Hayward.
The end:
