Note
just a fluffy one shot !! jegulus are together and live (just like in canon) this is kinda awful, it was written in a very short amount of time but i wanted to write something for alecs birthday

James had been in love before, but never like this, never this strong. Looking at the sleeping boy next to him in the moonlight, he could feel his heart swelling. In sleep, Regulus looks so peaceful, his hair no longer perfect as it normally is but spilt precariously over the pillows, a complete sense of tranquillity spread over his face.

Lightly tracing his fingers over Regulus’ naked torso, hovering just above his skin, he felt drawn to him, felt as if he was being told to hold him as close to him as possible.

It was as if a magnet was pulling them together.

His hand lightly touched Regulus’ abs, feeling the warmth spread from his fingertips throughout his whole body. Regulus was both the lion’s heart and his own.

Gently, he lent down and pressed soft kisses against his love’s skin, starting on his neck and ending at the waistband of his pyjamas. The kisses were brief and tender, however Regulus still stirred in his sleep, his nose scrunching ever so slightly.

James let out a breathy laugh, looking adoringly at the boy beneath him.

He’s in love. He knew it from the day they first kissed, possibly the day they first met. He’s known it for years, through all their arguments, through all their promises. They both know it, both know how in love they are. They’ve worked through all their issues, even when it was tough and the future looked bleak.

It’s not bleak. It’s beautiful, and full of colour. If their love was a painting, it would be one hung in museums, one people travelled for miles to see.

Their love would be discussed forever. Their story would never be forgotten; a love like this is unforgettable.

Slowly, he pulled his body on top of Regulus’, ensuring all their bodies were completely touching - Regulus was the only person that could make him feel completely safe. In his sleep, Regulus moved so he would be holding James, as if he was an oversized teddy bear. How he doesnt wake up to this, but stirs at the barely there touches is beyond James.

This thought was instantly dismissed as Regulus let out a content sigh and held James closer to him, as if that was possible.

This, James thought subconsciously, drifting off to sleep, this is where I wish to stay. for all my days.

He woke up to find their legs intertwined, and Regulus’ hand in his hair. A sleepy smile crept onto his face, and he turned his head to see the boy he was in love with.

Regulus had a book in his hand, but was staring at him instead, his eyes crinkled at the corners and a slight smile on his face, one he was trying (and failing) to prevent.

“G’morning,” he croaked, his voice not used to being heard yet.

“Morning to you too, you fell asleep with your glasses on again. I took them off you when I woke up.”

“Thank you, love.” he moved to give Regulus a kiss, causing him to squirm away. James grumbled under his breath, a useless feat as he still had a smile on his face.

“Morning breath!”

“We’re married, Regulus. You’ve seen me in a lot worse states than when I’ve just woken up.”

This caused a fond smile to spread over his husbands face, the implication he was reminiscing over all their memories - both the nice and the not.

He let out a giggle. “Remember the time after my brothers wedding, you were so drunk you passed out eating a kebab? And I had to wake you up because you had sauce on your face and you made me wipe your face with the chips you ordered and you ate those too?”

A dusting of pink spread across James’ cheeks. “And yet you still chose to marry me.” He pouted. “Will you please kiss me. This is torture.”

Feigning reluctance, Regulus moved into the kiss, James meeting him halfway. It was a slow kiss, one expected after the other just woke up, but one full of passion nevertheless.

Both poured all their love for the other into every kiss, and this was no different. To them, a kiss was a simple act of reassurance, a way to show that they will make time for the other no matter how busy they are.

Every kiss tells them that they are okay, that they still love each other. It’s the little things - James smiling when he hears Regulus or anything about him, Regulus telling him about his day and things that reminded him of James, James buying Regulus books (and anything else he wants. How could he say no?), days where they both do nothing with each other, the notes Regulus leaves for James to find around their house for when Regulus isn’t home.

The kiss gets broken when they run out of air, James pulling back first, albeit unwillingly. They catch their breath holding each other, not wanting to let the other retreat, not wanting to feel cold again. Nowhere is as warm as the arms of the person you love.

Regulus is the first one to speak, causing James’ heart to swell. “I know we fall in love in every universe, but I’m happy I get to experience this one.”
