“Please! I can’t do this alone!” Sirius pleaded as Remus walked away from him. Remus plopped down on the common room couch.
“Yeah, but why me?” Remus asked, pulling his book out of his pocket and flipping to the page he’s on. Sirius plops down next to him.
“Because I already know everything about James and Pete but you’re all mysterious and secretive and if I do a reading I’ll be able to learn something about you.” Sirius explained. Remus just side eyed him. “Come on! It’s just a simple reading! Three cards, that’s it!” Sirius said as he made puppy dog eyes at Remus. He knew Remus couldn’t resist his puppy dog eyes, I mean who could.
“Ugh… fine. But you owe me!” Remus said, pointing his finger at Sirius with a stern look on his face.
“Yes! Of course! Anything you want!” Sirius said excitedly, bouncing a bit on the couch. Sirius leaned in and gave Remus a quick hug before running off to grab his tarot card deck.
Sirius returned a few minutes later, cards in hand. He plopped down on the other side of the coffee table that’s in front of the couch. Remus closed his book and slid off the couch to the floor to sit across from Sirius.
“Okay. So it’s a very simple reading. You just draw three cards and they’re supposed to reveal something about you, whether it’s a desire, secret, or anything like that.” Sirius explained as he dumped the cards out of their box into his hand. Remus nodded in reply. Why had he agreed to do this? He was starting to get a bit nervous. He has a lot of secrets he doesn’t want Sirius to know. Not that he doesn’t trust him, he just doesn’t want Sirius to think of him differently or as a bad person.
Sirius laid the cards out in front of them on the table.
“Okay go ahead and pick whichever three cards you are drawn to!” Sirius said, a grin on his face.
“Okay.” Remus responded as he reached for the cards, nervous. He picked three cards and pulled them away from the others.
“Perfect! Let’s see what you got then.” Sirius flipped the first card over. “Okay, that’s…” Sirius flipped through his divination book looking for the card and meaning, “Ah! The Ace of Wands upright, which means that ideas are flowing to you, motivating and inspiring you to pursue a new path and encourages you to follow your heart.” Sirius read from the book. “And this one is… The Lovers upright, so that means you have a beautiful, soul-honoring connection with someone, and you may have found your soulmate. And lastly is the Ten of Cups upright, meaning that you have created an abundance of love and happiness in your life, and you now share this love with others, expanding your heart even more.” Sirius finished reading and looked back up at Remus. “Is mr. Lupin in love?” Sirius smirked.
“What? No! Why would I be in love?” Remus argued as his face flushed bright red.
“Oh yeah! Then why is your face so red right now, huh?” Sirius remarked as he slid around the table and poked Remus’ cheek. “Who is it then? Who's your secret love?”
“Nobody. I don’t have time for love.”
“Yeah but that’s not what the cards say, now is it Moony?” Sirius was having way too much fun with this. Meanwhile Remus was slowly dying from embarrassment.
“Well the cards are wrong. It’s not like they're magical or anything.”
“Remus. We’re literally wizards.”
“Whatever! I’m not telling you who it is!” Remus then stood and started to walk off towards the dorm.
“Oh! So there is someone?” Sirius said as he followed Remus up the dorm stairs.
“What does it matter if there is or isn’t? Why do you care so much?” Remus opened the dorm door and sat on the edge of his bed. Sirius followed him through the door but stayed standing, floating in front of Remus.
“Well because obviously I need to make sure she's a good fit for you. Can’t have you picking some girl unworthy of you.” Sirius stated as he crossed his arms and put a stern face on.
Remus stared at Sirius for a bit. Should he just tell him? Maybe he'll just ease him into it and see how he reacts. “Oh, and what if it’s not… A girl?” Remus asked as he stared intently at Sirius from his bed, waiting to see his reaction. Sirius just stared back. Then he slowly uncrossed his arms and his face gained an expression of, what looked like, sadness.
“You like a bloke?” Sirius asked in a disappointed tone.
“Maybe.” Remus averted his eyes, preferring to look at anything but Sirius right now. “Does that bother you?”
“Yeah, it really does.”
“Well, glad to know who my real friends are then.”
“No, it’s not the bloke part that bothers me.”
“What?” Remus looked back at Sirius. He looked generally sad. “Why do you look so sad? It’s not like you just came out to your best friend and got told they don’t accept you.”
“That’s not what I’m saying though.” Sirius took a step towards remus. Remus stood up from the bed. Him and Sirius were closer than they should be. “I’m saying that it bothers me that you like another bloke that’s not me.”
“What…? You, Sirius Black, are upset because I don’t… like you?”
“Yes! Christ, Moony, don’t make me say it again!” Sirius put his face in his hands, embarrassed. Remus reached forwards and grabbed Sirius’ hands in his own and brought them down in between them.
“Sirius, the bloke I like is you.” Remus said barely above a whisper, leaning his head forward to rest on Sirius’. Sirius didn’t say anything, just leaned forward and kissed him. Remus kissed him back instantly. It was full bliss for both of them.
When they leaned back they stayed resting against each other, their hands still together. “I like you so much.” Sirius whispered into the small gap of air between them. Remus pulled away but held onto Sirius’ hands. He walked back to his bed, Sirius following behind him.
They laid in bed, talking about anything and everything and just enjoying each other’s company, wrapped in each other's arms for the rest of the day. Sirius’ assignment was completely forgotten.
