Outcome and Plotting

As night fell over London, the ravens listened to the story of Isis. During a council meeting, a raven could ask the others for judgment about an event. The judgment was final and not questioned. It was democratic, all ravens could vote. It did not have to be unanimous, but the majority was leading. The raven who requested judgment had to accept the outcome. In the past, ravens had been banished from England for their actions. Ravens did not always have to ask for judgment themselves, sometimes it was imposed. One such case was the raven George. He had a strange habit of eating antennas from TV receivers. This led to unwanted attention and George had to go.

Isis told the others how she had sworn an oath to protect Regina Potter. How she accomplished her task and what was the result of her attack on the boy. His wounds but also the reaction of Dream and Reggie. She asked the others to judge whether her action was too cruel.

After she finished speaking, the debate started. More than once the ravens were interrupted by Tower watchers, who looked in amazement at the sheer number of birds on the edges of the White Tower. It was quite a racket, with all the ravens wanting to have their say. A decision was made around 1:00 PM. Loki called Isis to him. Isis flew over and prepared herself. She was quite nervous. In hindsight, she could have handled the situation with more finesse.

‘Isis, sister, you have come before us to receive judgment for your actions. You have protected Regina Potter, the prophesized child, the future Master of Death. You have defended her from an attack by another child. Your actions have led this child to be injured beyond repair. The council does not take this lightly. On the other hand, you did swear an oath to protect her at all costs. We feel that you have honored your oath and that your actions are just. This is the outcome of this council.’

In another part of Londen, located behind the façade of a shabby store with one mannequin, Ronald Weasley was treated by a healer. His left eye could not be saved. There were deep claw marks on his face and part of his left ear was missing. Ron had been given a potion for the worst of the pain and lay on his back while the healer did her best to patch him up as best she could.

His parents sat in the chair next to his bed, talking softly. The pain made Ron unable to concentrate on what they were saying. He was furious. His hands were clenched into fists. That damn bird. If he caught her he would rip off her wings. He would break her legs. Smash her head with a rock. His thoughts raced and raced. He didn't notice his father looking disapprovingly at him. Nor did he see his mother's tears.

As they looked at their youngest son, who from now on had to go through life with just one eye, being maimed after a cruel prank on his classmates, his mother in particular wondered what had gone wrong. Ron was so angry, so nasty. While he was such a happy little boy when he was younger. Arthur squeezed her shoulder. He also didn't understand why Ron had thought of attacking two schoolmates and then Severus Snape's raven.

When the Healer was done, she spelled a sleeping draught into her patient and informed his parents of the treatment. Molly and Arthur could not do anything right now and left to go home. They would come back in the morning when Ron was released from the hospital.
When they got to the Burrow, Molly started cleaning to calm her nerves and Arthur grabbed parchment to inform his other children of the events. Better they heard it from him, than she scuttlebutt that was the Hogwarts rumor machine.

Back in the hospital, where Ron was soundly asleep, a figure materialized. The being was neither man or woman, stepped over to the bed and watched the child sleep. How…unfortunate…there were such high hopes for the outcome. Little did the boy know that his actions were not entirely his own. His jealousy, his anger, yes, that was all him, but the way it had magnified into this, no…that was influence. After all, the boy desired so badly to stand out. To be better then his siblings…to be recognized as great and not just ‘another’ Weasley. Pity…the being mused. But it mattered not…after all, people desire things all the time…they would wait. Patience was a virtue and if it meant a drift into Dream and that little pest, all the better for it.
