A little visit from Death
Lucius was lying on his back in bed. After making love to Narcissa he had dosed off until he heard some papers rustling. He opened an eye and saw how his beautiful wife was going through old newspapers. Several books were opened as well. ‘Darling?’
Narcissa looked up and smiled. ‘I found it, Luc…about Dream of the Endless. However, I do not think it is a good idea to summon him.’ She walked over to the bed and sat down on the edge. She showed him several articles. Apparently, many years ago, there had been a sleeping sickness that had infected a lot of people. No one knew why those people would not wake up and it had lasted for more than a century. For some reason, Muggles were mostly infected, however, some wixen had also succumbed to the mysterious illness.
‘What does this have to do with summoning him?’ Narcissa showed him a book, that was written by someone called Clark. No first name, it was a bit obscure. The book was not printed in the normal way, it was more a diary of sorts. ‘You should read this. Apparently, a long time ago someone called Burgess was meddling in affairs he should not have meddled in. From what I could decipher, this man had captured Dream of the Endless. This was the reason for the sleeping sickness. If I understand this correctly, he held him captive for more than 100 years…so I don’t imagine Dream will be fine with being summoned.’
Lucius skimmed the pages. ‘Where did you find this?’
‘The vault…I must say Luc…this diary or whatever it is, it troubles me. Why would someone keep an Endless captive?’
They agreed that Lucius would tell the others that summoning Dream was not to be done.

The Elder Wand was secured in one of the vaults in the Kingdom that only Dream himself could access. Dream had accepted the item from Matthew and felt the sheer amount of power it radiated. Better to keep this far away from prying eyes and nosy siblings. He shuddered at the thought of his sibling Desire, and what havoc they could wreck with this wand.
Walking into the library, he heard Reggie talking to Lucienne and Merv about Sirius. He stood and listened. ‘Dream said I could go back tomorrow!’ She sounded so happy. ‘Please be careful sweetie, the waking world can be a dangerous place for a young raven such as yourself.’ Lucienne sounded concerned. ‘And cats…lots and lots of cats…’ Merv added.
This gave Dream pause. Was it wise that he had given his permission for Reggie to go alone? He was in doubt. When he saw Reggie flying away after hearing her promise that she would be careful, he walked over to his librarian and his handyman. ‘You both think she is not ready?’
Lucienne looked at him over the brim of her glasses and smiled. ‘My Lord, she is still very small. A baby compared to Matthew. I am just worried for her.’
Dream gave her a look that showed her that he was worried too. ‘I cannot keep her from him. He is her Godfather. But I admit, I wonder if I made the right call.’
‘You should have a little faith, brother mine,’ sounded another voice. Dream, Merv and Lucienne turned around, seeing Death walking towards them. ‘Hear you found my wand? How is my girl?’
‘She is well sister mine. Would you like to talk to her?’
‘In a bit, tell me about the wand. You have it?’ Dream and Death left the library and Dream told his sister about the wand. ‘I know it’s powerful, I also know it is sentient. The wand chooses the wizard or witch. Are you sure she will be able to wield it?’
Death smiled one of her mysterious smiles. ‘Still doubts…pfff.’ She nudged his shoulder playfully. ‘Let’s say…she was born for this wand. The allegiance is not a problem.’
A caw alerted the siblings to the little raven they were both fond of. Reggie flew over to Death and sat on her shoulder. ‘You’re back!’ she said happily. ‘I have missed you.’
‘I missed you too little raven. How are you? Tell me everything!’ Reggie snickered and gave Dream a sideways look. ‘Well…’ she said.
‘I am warning you…do not give my sister any ideas.’ He tried his best to sound stern, but failed miserably.
This caused Death to laugh out loud. ‘Oh brother…really?’ With those words she and Reggie left the palace, leaving a concerned Dream behind. Damn it. Stupid glitters. He would not hear the end of this for a very long time.

Lucius returned to Hogwarts the following day and informed Severus and Minerva that summoning Dream was a bad idea. Severus informed Remus and after classes were over for the day, Remus knocked on Lucius’ door. ‘Would you mind if I take a look at those articles, and maybe the book your wife has in her possession? I am very curious about this sleeping sickness.’
Lucius agreed to ask Narcissa for the items and both men discussed the upcoming full moon.

After Death had left, Reggie sought out Dream. ‘Sir, can I go? To Sirius?’
Dream stretched out his hand and Reggie jumped on it. ‘Three conditions. The first one is that you can only go to Sirius. Not anywhere else. The second one is that you tell no one your name. Should the matter come up, which I doubt, use another name. The third one, if you are in trouble, you shout my name in your head, as hard as you can. This will alert me and I will come to your aid. Understood?’
Reggie cawed. ‘Uhm sir, if Sirius goes out of the hospital, can I go with him?’ Dream nodded. ‘As long as you stay with him, yes, that is all right. I will try to open a portal as close to the hospital as I can. Please look out for cats and other birds.’ His look softened a bit. ‘Please be careful okay?’
Not being used to people caring so much for her safety, Reggie gently preened Dream’s hair. ‘I will sir.’
‘Very well, have fun and I will see you when the sun sets.’ He opened a portal and watched the little bird fly through it.
