I Do.
“…until death do us part. I will love and honor you all the days of my life.” Elphaba said with love, her voice trembling slightly as the weight of the vow settled in the air between them.
Silence fell, sacred and full, as the weight of her words settled between them. Galinda’s tears spilled over, and Elphaba didn’t bother hiding her own. They stood there, their hands still clasped tightly, the world fading away as they allowed themselves this moment. It was just the two of them, their hearts beating in unison, surrounded by the promise they’d just made. There was nothing more real than this.
The Ozficiant, their dear friend and occasional mentor, had been watching them closely, a smile dancing at the corners of his mouth. Though his eyes were filled with a kind of gentle reverence, they had a mischievous spark that only he could pull off.
“By the power vested in me by the wondrous land of Oz,” the Ozficiant began, his voice rich with authority but carrying a warmth that filled the entire room, “I now pronounce you… wives.”
There was a beat of breathless anticipation before the room erupted into applause, a chorus of cheers from the guests who had witnessed the moment. Galinda, unable to hold back her smile, threw herself into Elphaba’s arms, laughing through her tears.
“I do,” she whispered against Elphaba’s lips, as if the words needed to be spoken again.
“You may kiss your bride,” the Ozficiant said, as if it were the most natural thing in the world.
And so they did. In front of their friends, their family, and all the worlds they had yet to discover, Elphaba kissed Galinda—her heart full, her soul ignited.
The cheers only grew louder as they pulled away, hands still intertwined, ready for whatever came next. This was just the beginning, after all.
