Song: Mr. Rose by Spence Hood
Context. Regulus is 67 years old living far from the world in a small mountain village, he enjoys the quiet and peace, but he is quite a bitter old man. On a small hill beside his house, there is another house, where James Potter aged 68 has just moved in. Alone.
There's a man on the hill and his pockets are filled up with roses
James spends his mornings and afternoons giving out flowers from his garden to the school kids and everyone that walks by from the town.
Though I don't see him often
Cut to Regulus watching from his window, or when he is walking by.
And I don't think he knows the problem that this pose
Seeing James giving out flowers every day actually makes Regulus smile, he enjoys it. He likes waking up to see James smiling at children, and it makes him feel strange. Basically, he doesn't like that James makes him smile.
For if I had to live without him I'd want nothing more to do with this mountain
Regulus realizes he really doesn't want to be without James, he is a part of his daily routine now, and they share smiles sometimes.
Mr. Rose, I don't suppose You'd want to spend your afternoon with me?
Reg works up the courage to go up to James and asks him to go on a walk together in the afternoon.
We can walk through the garden
They start going on daily walks together.
Begging the pardon of the bluebirds
They talk and James makes regulus laugh just imagine two old guys just laughing together in a wholesome way.
You'll lay down on the lawn and I'll study your yawn
James continues making jokes and Regulus just watches him.
I wish I'd met you sooner
Regulus starring at James and just wishing they'd met earlier, how much happier he would have been.
For Mother and Father just paid off the dowry
Flashback to when Regulus was 18 and forced to marry a woman he didn't love because of his parents.
But one look at you and my heart goes all flowery
But then he sees James and he isn't down anymore the pain of the past doesn't matter here.
Mr. Rose, I don't suppose You'd want to break a rule or two tonight?
James now asks Regulus on a late-night adventure. They break into a private garden, James just being mischievous making Reg feel young again, I imagine them trying to climb over a fence.
They are laughing and then James goes serious and tells Reg the reason he is here.
For my days here are numbered
Flashback to right before James moved in. James is in a doctor's office being told that he has very little time left.
If I end up under the thumb of a loveless man
James packing and moving not telling anyone he is dying, saying goodbye to Sirius saying he is just going on holiday. He doesn't want them to have to watch him die.
I swear I'll run straight into the forest
Regulus runs away and is very angry and upset at James, he knows he shouldn't be he is well Reg :(
The surest I've ever felt of myself
Regulus stops crying, he sort of realizes that he can't change what is happening to James and that he needs to tell him some things before he dies.
Is when you're on my mind
Regulus writes a letter.
POV SWITCH- James's POV now
There's a house with a window
James looks down from his house on the hill to see Regulus through his window.
And inside that house lives a boy
Meanwhile, Regulus was reading not noticing James was looking and smiling.
He might think I can't see when he stares out at me
James pov of him giving flowers, and pretending not to notice Regulus starring!!
But oh, how it fills me with joy
He smiles to himself as only James would.
For life on the hill can be awfully bereft Of the moments that wake up an old man's chest
James accepts his last days, Regulus running (keep in mind he is OLD so imagine an old regulus running :(((() to send his letter
So before my days end
James laying on his bed by his window, looking out an open letter on his lap.
I'll wrap up a rose and send it down the way
Regulus receives a rose. James dies peacefully in his sleep.
To the boy who made me feel like a boy again
The letter he wrote to James was thanking him for making him feel young again.
We flash forward to a bright garden where Regulus is chasing James, they are both young again.
