Chapter 6: A Game of Quidditch
*Gellert*
It’s been a whole week since the graveyard incident and they spent that week researching the Deathly Hallows in Hollows Park.
Gellert and Albus was currently sitting on the grass in Hollows park, Gellert was reading a book on several peoples sightings of the Deathly Hallows and Albus was reading some of his Dads research that was written in a notebook. Albus hadn’t read all of his Dads research yet as there was a lot to go through.
Gellerts eyes started to hurt from all the reading.
"I can’t read anymore. I’m going to take a break." Gellert said while rubbing his eyes.
"I think I will too. My eyes have been burning for the past hour" replied Albus as he put his book down.
Gellert smiled "I think that’s the first time I’ve seen you put a book down this past week."
"Well I’m eager to find any information that will lead us to the Deathly Hallows" Albus smiled as he unfolded his legs and leant back to stretch.
He’s still feeling defeated over finding nothing at the graveyard.
"I think your still upset over finding nothing at the graveyard" whispered Gellert.
Albus fidgeted "I’m not anymore but it has made me more eager to find a clue of some sort."
"You need a break and not a short one either. Let’s take the rest of the day off and enjoy ourselves" Gellert smirked as he stood up and stretched.
"Like what? There’s nothing to do in this boring old village" Albus replied and gathered his books and stuffed them in his bag.
"Well how about quidditch. Bathilda has two dusty old broomsticks in her attic and a golden snitch. She keeps on saying that me and you should play quidditch, that we need to exercise more and not read too much, which she does have a point" Gellert held out his hand to Albus.
"She does. Okay we just need to think off somewhere to play it without breaking any magical laws" Albus grabbed Gellerts hand and was lifted to his feet.
"Boring" Gellert rolled his eyes. "But.. there is a field around the back of my house. Bathilda always said we can charm it to be invisible if we were to play quidditch. No one goes over there" Gellert said while walking toward the exit of the park.
"Okay sounds great" Albus smiled as he chucked his book bag over his shoulder and followed Gellert out of the park.
Gellert and Albus were waving their wands for the invisibility charm which will put up an invisible dome over the field, they also charmed the golden snitch to not leave the invisible dome that enveloped them.
They both finished the invisible charm and headed to the middle of the field where the broomsticks were.
Gellert grabbed both broomsticks and handed one to Albus.
"Thank you" Albus said while grabbing the broomstick.
"Aren’t you a well mannered Englishman" Gellert teased.
Albus laughed "Well at least I don’t act like a charming and polite posh boy"
Oh, he thinks I’m charming even if he thinks it’s acting. Interesting.
"I don’t act charming, I just am" Gellert grinned as he nudged Albus.
Albus smiled as he positioned himself over his broomstick. Gellert followed suit and grabbed the golden snitch out of his pocket.
"Ready?" Gellert said and looked over at Albus.
"Ready" Albus replied with determination on his face.
Gellert let go of the golden snitch and it took flight and practically disappeared in the sky. Both Gellert and Albus flew up on their broomsticks and followed the snitch closely as they could until it disappeared.
Gellert and Albus looked around but the golden snitch was no where to be seen.
Gellert had another idea.
Bet he can’t catch me.
Gellert flew by Albus "Bet you can’t catch me." Gellert flew off and Albus chased him closely.
Gellert was zigzagging in different directions and spinning around as Albus tried to catch him.
Albus pulled out his wand and threw a spell at Gellert that made him freeze in mid air.
Albus flew past and tapped Gellert on the shoulder and said "Got you."
Gellert then suddenly unfroze and then circled Albus with a smirk "Albus you cheated. I didn’t think you had it in you."
"I’m full of surprises" Albus laughed. "But I don’t class it as cheating. I like to class it as work smarter, not harder."
"I agree with you on that point" Gellert laughed as he looked around for the snitch.
The golden snitch appeared in the near distance and Gellert bolted towards it.
Time to win.
Albus followed behind when he realised that Gellert bolted for the golden snitch.
Gellert was so close to it as he reached out his hand to envelope it but it was just out of reach. So he shuffled himself forward on the broomstick to reach further and tried to grab the golden snitch when suddenly the broomstick toppled forward as if unbalanced and Gellert toppled forward and off the broomstick.
"Fuck" Gellert said to himself as he fell.
"GELLERT!" Albus screamed and he flew down to try and catch Gellert.
Gellet fell through the sky and hit the ground with a thump.
Albus whizzed down on his broomstick and jumped off. He ran up to Gellert cautiously who was laying on the ground face down and said "Gellert" with a strained voice.
Albus kneeled next to Gellert and placed his hand on Gellerts back and shook him.
"I got it" Gellert jumped. "I got the snitch, I won"
Gellert rolled over onto his side and stared at Albus. He realised that Albus had pain in his eyes, he was close to tears and looked disheveled. He felt a ache in his heart when he realised what he put Albus through.
He was worried about me.
"I thought you were dead, you idiot!" Albus said with coldness in his voice while looking at the floor.
Gellert observed Albus.
It looks to me like Albus has been through an similar experience before. He looks traumatised. I’m such an idiot.
"I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to scare you" Gellert said apologetically.
Gellert had an strong urge to hug him but held back out of fear of rejection.
Then their was a roar of thunder and rain started to pour from the sky. They got drenched instantly.
Gellert waved his wand and wordlessly created a semi-transparent umbrella. He placed it over the both of them to keep dry.
Gellert didn’t know what to say. He didn’t want to upset Albus any further.
Albus looked up and his eyes looked glossy with pain and forced a smile "We best head home before we get struck by lightening."
He’s embarrassed. He’s trying to brush it off and run home.
Gellert didn’t want Albus to go home when just a few seconds ago he was nearly in tears.
"Why don’t we go back to mine. We can play some chess in my room" Gellert smiled.
Albus looked like he was in deep thought and then nodded "Yeah sure. I would like that."
Gellert jumped up while trying to keep the umbrella shielding them both. He lowered his hand down to Albus, Albus grabbed his hand and Gellert tugged him up. When Gellert realised Albus weren’t going to cast his own umbrella, maybe because of shock, he pushed up against Albus, shoulder to shoulder, in order to keep them both dry with the umbrella charm.
It feels nice to be this close to him.
Gellert relished in Albus’s warmth and closeness. He wanted more. He wanted to hold him. He wanted to …
I think I…
Albus interrupted his thought.
"Are you sure your okay? Your not hurt are you? You did fall very far" Albus said with concern.
"I’m fine. I’m actually accident prone and somehow, most of the time, only get a few scrapes or bruises" Gellert laughed.
"Oh great, I’m going to have to learn a lot of healing spells as I’m friends with an idiot. I don’t think your accident prone, no your just wreck less" Albus smiled while looking at Gellert.
"Maybe" Gellert winked at Albus.
Albus rolled his eyes.
They both headed back to Bathilda’s at a quick pace in order to get out of the rain.
As soon as they walked through Bathilda’s door, she walked up to them and smiled.
"Did you boys have fun playing quidditch?" Bathilda said while waving her wand at them as she dried there wet clothes and vanished the dirt of them.
"Yeah, except Gellert fell off his broom" Albus said while glimpsing at Gellert.
Gellert smirked "Im fine honestly."
Bathilda looked worried and walked up to Gellert and observed him to see if there was any injuries.
"Are you sure Gellert? You look rather pale? Are you in pain?" Bathilda said with worry.
"I’m fine. I really am." Gellert turned to Albus "Anyways I’m going to get something to eat for us Albus. You head up to my room. It’s the first one on the right upstairs"
"Okay, you sure you don’t need help with the food" Albus replied.
Gellert smirked "Im sure. I’ll be up in a minute."
Albus smiled and turned towards the stairs and walked up them. Gellert heard him reach the top of the stairs.
Gellert turned to Bathilda and whispered "I think I’ve broke my arm."
Bathilda looked confused "I thought you said you were fine?"
"I didn’t want to say anything in front of Albus. You should of saw him, as soon as I hit the ground, I layed there for a few seconds and when I turned around to look at him, he looked traumatised. He thought I died. I didn’t want to worry him about my arm" Gellert said with sadness in his voice.
Bathilda had a look of concern wash over her face. "Oh I see" Bathilda said as if she knew why Albus reacted that way.
Does she know something. What isn’t she telling me.
"What arm is it?" Bathilda said while grabbing her wand.
Gellert pulled his broken arm up slowly "This one."
Bathilda took a look at it "It’s broken. I can fix it with a healing spell." Bathilda summoned a potion and then handed it to Gellert " But you’ll need to drink this potion first, it will help with the pain and the healing."
"Okay let’s get it over with" Gellert replied and quickly downed the potion in one go.
Bathilda pointed her wand at his arm.
"Episkey" Bathilda said and Gellert winced but surprisingly didn’t feel any pain. He just didn’t like the uncomfortable sound of it cracking back in.
Phew. I’m glad that’s over with.
"So what’s it about Albus that your not telling me?" Gellert said as Bathilda looked at Gellerts arm to make sure it was healed.
"It’s not my place to say Gellert" Bathilda said with sadness in her eyes.
She isn’t going to tell me. I best find it out from Albus then and why does she always have sadness in her eyes when she talks about Albus.
"Okay I best head upstairs before Albus wonders where I am" Gellert said as he rushed past Bathilda and to the kitchen to grab some food.
He grabbed some cauldron cakes that looked freshly baked and then headed upstairs.
Gellert walked up to his bedroom and pushed open the door with one hand while carrying the cakes on a plate in his other hand. He walked into the room and saw Albus sitting at the end of his bed.
"Sorry, I hope I weren’t too long. I was waiting for Bathilda to finish baking these cakes for us" Gellert lied while placing the plate of cakes on the bed next to Albus.
I hope he don’t get suspicious.
"It was worth the wait" Albus smiled as he picked up a cake and took a bite.
Gellert took a seat on the other side of the plate and grabbed a cake for himself.
"So your not angry with me?" Gellert said and took a bite out of his cake.
"No of course not. You just scared me, that’s all" Albus said while looking down at his lap.
Gellert felt an heavy ache in his chest. He hated seeing Albus like this.
"I’m sorry Albus. I really didn’t mean to scare you" Gellert said apologetically.
Albus’s looked up from his lap and stared forward and then he’s face started to scrunch up as if holding back tears or sadness.
Urgh I just want to hug him.
"It’s not you. It’s just … I lost someone recently" Albus replied with sadness in his voice.
Gellert was surprised. He really didn’t see that coming.
"Oh… I’m sorry to hear that" Gellert replied.
Gellert didn’t know what to do, he didn’t want to hug him as Albus might get awkward so he reached over and put his hand on his shoulder.
"I’m here for you, if you need to talk about anything" Gellert said as he lightly squeezed Albus’s shoulder.
"Thanks Gellert" Albus replied.
I’ll be there for him, when he’s ready to talk.
