Give you my wild, give you a child

“I hope you don’t mind, but I have taken the liberty of inviting your mother over for dinner tonight” Those were the first words Lucius said to her once they were safely outside the black manor. It seemed like he was dying to bring up Peter. But he didn’t.
“My mother?” Narcissa asked “shouldn’t I be the only one inviting my mother to dinner?”
“Well yes but…” He trailed off “no, you’re right, I should’ve asked you first.”
Find yourself a man like Lucius Narcissa thought to herself sarcastically one who will always admit his wrongs
Find yourself a woman like Lily Evans her thought echoed back someone who will love you to the moon and back even if you are only willing to love her back on the dark side of the moon
shut up stupid thoughts “No, no its perfectly fine but I just…” she quickened her pace “I have to tell you something”
Lucius seemed shocked by this, as though it hadn’t possibly occurred to him that he didn’t know everything his wife did “what?”
She looked hastily around her “I’ll tell you at home” and with that she apparated them into Malfoy manor.
“Were home now, could you say what you wanted to tell me?” Lucius asked getting a little impatient now
“Yes dear” she walked around the room and fixed the flowers on the mantelpiece and window sill “Just give me a moment”

She conjured up two chairs “sit please, I didn’t want to tell you quite yet, but if my mother is coming over it might be better I tell you now”
“Well I’m getting anxious, you better tell me”
“I’m pregnant”
Lucius stared at her for a minute before taking her hand and when he looked into her eyes she could make out some tears welling at the edge of his eyes
“with a boy” she smiled
Lucius breathed in heavily “this is wonderful Narcissa, how long have you known?”
“About three weeks..?”
“Three weeks? Why didn’t you tell me sooner?”
“Well I didn’t know how to, the time wasn’t right” Telling him would mean admitting to herself that she was stuck with him forever. That she could never return to the love of her life. She had missed her last chance. And Lily had already given her so many last chances.
“Well why today then?” he asked
“My mother knew already”
“You told her???”
“No, but mothers always know this kind of thing. And if she didn’t know then shed definitely notice this evening”
“How could she notice? You are as thin as ever?”
glad to know that that’s what he notices she rolled her eyes internally “not to my mother”
“Well alright”

“Anyway, I’ll start preparing the house for tonight, there’s an awful lot of ground to cover in a manor like this” she stood up but Lucius grabbed her hands
“Don’t worry about it, we’ll just have dobby do that, you should rest”
Narcissa wanted to roll her eyes at him “I’m just pregnant, I can still do everything I could before I told you”
“Yes but-”
“If you want to be helpful, send dobby out to get the shopping” she conjured a list and handed it to her fiancé “and perhaps start writing some vows, I’d like to get married in less than a month, it’s disgraceful to get married with an obvious baby bump”
Lucius sat there in shock as Narcissa left the room “Less than a month? Narcissa dear are you sure?”
“Yes darling” she hollered back “Now please bring dobby the list, and tell him to cook up a steak with potatoes while I’m at the florists”
She picked up some gardenias from the florists and arranged then carefully in the vases all over the manor once she returned
She spread out the table cloth she had been gifted as a baby across the table and thought about how her cousins would never have been gifted a tablecloth.
She had dobby bring the fine china into the dining room and laid out three places, one without a wine glass.
All the hints she could possibly give had been given.
