chapter 4
At 9:00am students started arriving at the school, the halls seemed smaller with the amount of people crammed in them, trying to get to the dorms. Cars continuously pulled in before driving away a few minutes later. Both remus and sirius had slept right through breakfast and hadn't woken up at all despite the noise from the excited first years moving into their dorms for the first time. It was only when lily had arrived and burst in to his bedroom when they woke up and remembered what had happened.
"Oh, uhm sorry guys i didn't- i didn't realise you would be in here i guess." lily blurted out, she couldnt really make out what had happened. Remus sat upright and adjusted the hoodie.
" its fine really nothing was happening. i mean not that you thought that i mean- no i just meant- it doesnt matter" blood rushed to remus' cheeks as he said this. Lily looked at Remus, shocked.
"I- what happened? your hair i mean." Remus smiled whilst rubbing the back of his head, he had half forgotten about it.
" yeah uh is sirius a good hairdresser?" he chuckled. Sirius turned around to face Lily, waiting for a reply.
"you know what, its not half bad, you look good!" Remus smiled at Lily and got out of the bed, chucking on a pair of joggers that were laying on his suitcase.
"when's James gonna be here, usually he is here by now."
sirius sat up " hes probably putting his bags in our dorm. we can go look if u want?" sirius replied. Lily had left to finish unpacking her things and sorting her bedroom for the new year.
Remus explained to sirius about how how he wanted to tell them both as soon as possible but he was scared. just like how he was scared of telling sirius. He was reassured that everything would go well and he didnt need to worry. The three of them walked up the second set of stairs and through the hall, where they found james and Peter unpacking. Sirius skipped over to james' bed and picked up a comic james had placed on his side table. "you know James, having this out probably wont help u get any girls.. or guys, no discriminating here" he dropped the comic back down and stretched his arms " whatever, new look remus? its hot" James smiled and hugged remus, it had been a while since they last saw each other so naturally james was very excited. He mostly rambled on about all the things he had done over the break, Lily had left halfway through this to go catch up with dorcas and Marlene before unpacking. James then changed his conversation topic to Lily. " doesnt she look even better, her hair looks so.. so.. it looks amazing and oh did you see how she hugged me back this time?" Peter looked at him and raised an eyebrow " yeah your really making progress there mate. proud of you." He joked.
At lunch they all sat together, catching up and Remus figured he would tell everyone. He wanted to get it done and figured this was the easiest way to tell them all together.
" um guys can i say something?" he cleared his throat and looked down, nervously. Sirius looked over and gave his an encouraging smile, remus took a deep breath and looked at everyone, who were listening intensively. He blurted it out. his eyes started to water and his face went red, Sirius put his arm around Remus and whispered to him.
"its okay i promise you." Everyone sat silently trying to figure out a reply. A few moments later James leaned over the table
" well this is great news, how do you feel about joining-" Remus rolled his eyes
" i am not joining any of your sports teams don't even try it."
Nobody had said anything bad, it had went almost as well as Remus had hoped, although, he didn't really know how he wanted people to react. The rest of lunch carried on as normal and they carried on the day as normal. Everyone used the right pronouns as much as they could remember.
After lunch they spent the rest of the day settling in to their rooms before having to go back to normal classes tomorrow. Lily and Remus hung out in Lily's room talking to each other to pass the time, the others had all left to sort out their own dorms.
"so you and sirius.. are you like"
"what. NO- no we aren't.. why would you suggest that?" Remus blurted out.
"i was just saying this morning u guys looked pretty cosy.." Lily smiled
"LILY?!" Remus felt his cheeks heat " there is nothing going on between me and Black." Lily smirked and turned away, sticking an old yet surprisingly well looked after ABBA poster by her bed.
Sirius had been upstairs helping James unpack all his things into the bedroom, peter in the room next to them with Frank Longbottom even though he snuck into the others room most days anyways.
"So Lily was telling me about this morning.. you and Remus are even closer now huh" he nudged sirius, laughing.
" NO- no i mean, yes we are closer but there nothing going on between me and Lupin." Sirius looked at James who was still laughing quietly to himself.
"Sure okay whatever u say."
