The Prologue

Regina’s parents didn’t like her . Hell, they didn’t even like each other.

They got married because they both came from powerful families and were arranged to be together for her father’s business. They always talked about marriage as some business deal because they were “important people”, and people were always “watching them”.

Regina’s mother, Walburga, was beautiful, no, not beautiful, she was exquisite . I mean she was voted yule ball queen for a reason, well that and she rigged the ballot so that Violet Bulstrode wouldn’t win, she should've thought twice before stabbing her in the back.

Regina’s father, Orion, was stern. He did have a powerful business to run after all. Orion was named after a constellation, which was also named after a hunter in Greek mythology.

Ironically, all Orion did was sit in his plushy office or go into meetings deciding how much more money he could make for himself.

Regina also had an older brother named Sirius. He was one year older than her. He was named after the brightest star in the sky and boy did he act like it.

He had a certain glow to him; he could light up a room by just walking in. Well, except for any room in their house. In the house, mother always shushed him, made sure he stayed quiet, stripped him of his identity. Of course, he always kept his opinions, but he had learned to keep his mouth shut.

Walburga had raised them since Orion couldn’t be bothered with the fact that he had kids, only when the post needed him too.

So, Walburga had raised them. That’s it. She raised them. Barely. Taught them how to not kill themselves in stupid ways, taught them how to look for family photos, how to act in public, how to behave when they had guests, what opinions to have, and who was deemed a “disgrace”.

Taught them how to be a member of “The Most Ancient and Noble House of Black”.

“Can I go with you?” she had asked her brother. “I wish, Regina, but I have to go alone.”

Sirius was going to his first year at Hogwarts. Lucky. He got to spend 9 blissful months away from their mother.

“Please? I don’t wanna be alone without you.” Sirius smiled smally at her. “One more year Reggie, then you can be there too”

She liked the idea of being there with her brother. Liked it even more knowing her parents wouldn’t. It was unfair her brother got to go first.

“Write to me?”

“Of course”

Later that night

“Gryffindor? He’s in Gryffindor?”

Walburga had just opened a letter that an owl dropped off, looking to be from Narcissa, her older cousin. She was the youngest from her 2 sisters’, being in her 4th year at Hogwarts.

Orion snatched the letter from his wife’s hand and read the entails. His face distorted into anger as he stood up and left the dinner table and slammed his room door.

Walburga started talking, “You mustn’t speak to him again while at school, do you understand Regina?”

She hesitated for a moment before saying, “Yes, mother”

September 1, 1972

Finally, the moment had arrived at 10:30, 30 minutes before the train left for Hogwarts. Walburga and Orion had dragged Sirius into a private room after he returned home for the summer and yelling had ensued for the next 15 minutes.

After the door reopened, they had firmly ignored him for the rest of the summer. Orion had an early meeting, so he and Walburga both left him to find his own seat on the train.

Suddenly Regina felt an arm dragging her and yelled “Hey-” but was cut off when she realized the hand on her was connected to her brother.

“C’mon, I want you to meet some of my friends.”

“But Mother and Father-”

“Screw them.”

Regina had never heard her brother utter such violent words against their parents. She had never heard

After dragging her around for 5 minutes, they went to a small corner where 3 other boys stood.

The first one he noticed was a shy looking one, he was somewhat short but leaned over a lot. He had many scars over his face, but it didn’t make him look bad, just wounded. He looked like the Remus that Sirius had described over summer.

The second boy was the shortest, a little plump, but a shy smile on his face while waving his hand at her. That must’ve been Peter.

The third boy smiled coyly. That was Regina’s first thought as she watched him.

She understood that he was Sirius’s best friend James. He talked about him most of all 3 friends. They had become inseparable in just one year.

“Hi” James said.

Regina only nodded at him, pretending to not be interested. They were all in the same house, one that Walburga did not approve of.

Just then the bell rang to tell them that the train would be leaving in 15 minutes. She turned around and boarded the train before her brother could say anything.

After the sorting ceremony, she had been sorted into Slytherin. She was happy but secretly hoped that she would be the same as him to spend more time with him.

She would always try to catch his eye across the room, but he was always talking with his friends, looking so… happy. Like he couldn't be bothered about her

Third Year

After starting her classes, she had a group of friends, all approved by her parents. They had come from similar families, but Regina’s were the ringleaders in all their socialite's bullshit.

There was the Sheilia Parkinson, who was always trying to be on Regina's good side, she figured she had known about the powers of her family. There was also the boy Alecto Carrow, who always seemed like her wanted to be with Regina, but he was nowhere near what she wanted.

And then there were Evan Rosier and Barty Crouch Jr. They were more like friends to her. Always making jokes under there breathe and such.

There was this one girl though. She had come up to Regina after all her classes had finished and pulled her into a room by her arm. Any more people do this, and she would have a permanent bruise on her arm.

“What, hey! -”

“Hello, there!”

“Let me go.”

“No, I don’t think I will.”

Regina pulled her arm from the other girl's grasp and looked over at her capture. She has long blonde hair that was down to her mid-back, an oval face with a button nose.

She had also noticed that she was the twin sister of one of her friends, Evan, although she was shunned from the Rosier family for not going along with their ridiculous ideas.

“I’m Pandora!”

“I know.”

“And your Regina, right?”

“Yes?”

“We should be friends!”

“No thanks.” She started making her way towards the door when Pandora started following her out. Regina spun around.

“Stop following me”

“No, I don’t think I will”

Regina started questioning why this girl was so torn on being her friend, maybe it was for the money, maybe she craved being back in the inter circle of socielites, mayb-

“I can see your thinking”

“Yes, what do you want from me?”

“To be your friend” she said with a smile, like that wasn’t obvious.

“Yes, I heard that, but why?”

“Because you're a good person”

That had caught Regina off guard. A good person? Is she crazy? Surely, she knows about all her family’s beliefs and everything. After all, she had left that.

“I’m not, don’t get your hopes up”

Before she could hear the girl's answer she had turned around and headed straight for the library. Once she had settled all her books and homework she got to studying in the quiet corner in the library. Not long after though, Pandora came and sat down with her.

This time though she didn’t say anything, just sat down with a quick smile towards Regina and then silently did her own schoolwork. After 3 hours both girls had gone back to their respective dorm rooms.
