Badassery

The snow under your feet makes no sound as you and Molly make your way around to the back of Dervish & Banges with silencing spells on your boots. Once you reach the back door, you wait for your cue. After a few moments of silence, you hear loud booms and the sound of dueling from the front of the shop. Molly opens the door and the two of you slip inside.

The first thing your eyes are drawn to is a single Death Eater keeping watch on the hostages. He is distracted by the boys out front but when he hears the door open he turns around. Before he can even aim his wand, you have him disarmed and flying backwards unconscious.

“Mum?” you hear a voice exclaim.

Turning to look at the others in the room, you find an assortment of children, the shopkeeper whom you’ve met before, and an elderly looking man. Process of elimination makes you assume this is your husband and you make eye contact with him. He nods a confirmation. Then, you study the children. Of course, Harry, Ronald, and Hermione got themselves involved in this mess, you think as you recognize the voice that had reacted to Molly. There is also a tall black boy standing next to a Scottish looking fellow, three girls clustered together, and a pale haired boy that stands next to Severus. You place that one as the Malfoy kid that is Severus’ godson.

“Oh Ronald, of course it has to be you three!” Molly immediately fusses over the trio. “We’re here to get you back to the school, come on now.”

“I’m not going anywhere with you, Weasley!” A snobby sounding voice speaks up.

You raise an eyebrow at your disguised husband who gives you an eye roll in response. Guess that means you’re in charge of the boy.

“Draconius Lucius Malfoy.” You command and watch him snap to attention at your tone. “Yes, I’m well aware of who you are. If those Death Eaters out there knew who you were, or cared, you wouldn’t be locked in a room with this crew. They will treat you just like any other unknown Hogwarts student. So, you are going to march your ass out that door with the rest of these people because I’m not going to bandage up your booboos when the scary men decide they want to hurt you. Understood?”

He nods solemnly and you hear the elderly man next to him choke back a laugh.

“Alright, come on now.” You tell the group at large who are now well aware that you’re taking control of the room. “We are going to lead you back to the school. Dumbledore is dealing with the others out front, we’ll protect you along the route.”

Molly leads the group out the door single file and you take up the back end next to a disguised Severus.

“You couldn’t just stay away, could you?” He whispers.

“Of course not. You know I don’t stand by when you or children are in danger.”

“Well, at least it means I get to see you in those robes.” He says with a smirk that you can recognize even through the Polyjuice. You grins at him in response.

The group weaves their way behind the buildings until they get closer to the path towards school. The problem comes when you all reach that point. The rest of the walk to school is completely out in the open and you can still hear the sounds of dueling on the main stretch.

“Ok, you’re all old enough to go to Hogsmeade so I’m assuming you can all throw up a decent Protego?” You ask them. They all nod in response. “Alright then. Wands out and keep alert. It shouldn’t be necessary but do shield if you see any spells come this way. Molly will continue leading you to the school and I’ll watch your backs. Go.”

The group speeds out into the open area and you keep tight to the rear. Turning to keep an eye on the fighting, you see two Death Eaters on the ground and three more dueling the three men that came with you. Continuing up the path, you turn to see where you are going and all of a sudden a bright red flash flies past you to connect with Severus’ arm. Whipping around, you see that one of the men on the ground had regained consciousness and fired at you. Enraged, you maintain a shield over the group with your left wand while simultaneously firing spells at the man.

The lights of the fight draws the attention of the other Death Eaters and they notice that the kids are escaping. Rage and protective spirit fueling your spells, you knock out the original attackers and then send out a line of blue fire around the others to trap them in. It’s a rare spell that you found in your research and one that you had only told Severus how to counter. It was also the reason your robes had embroidered flames. With the active threat taken care of for the moment, you turn to your husband.

“How bad are you injured?” You ask, concerned.

“Not bad at all” he tells you, already working on knitting the wound back together.

You sigh with relief and turn to find that the entire group has stopped moving and is just staring at you.

“Bloody hell, remind me not to piss her off,” Ron states without thinking.

“Ronald!” His mother smacks him on the arm.

“Get your ass back up to the castle, Weasley” you tell him with a chuckle.

Everyone continues making their way back to the castle and you have no more problems. Once the students have been sent back to their houses with professors, you follow Molly and Severus up to the Headmaster’s office. Severus takes a potion to reverse the effects of Polyjuice as soon as the door is closed.

When he’s back to his usual self with his black robes, he pulls you in close. “I wholeheartedly agree with your decision to stand back from the fighting but, Merlin, do you know what it does to me seeing you duel like that?”

“The same thing it does to me when I watch you kick ass, sweetheart” you laugh and then lean in for a deep kiss.

“Agh, I don’t wanna see that!” Sirius interrupts the two of you by opening the door.

“Then close your eyes” Severus deadpans.

You chuckle again and pull away. “Circumstances aside, I’m glad to finally see the castle. You certainly have some interesting trinkets, Albus.”

The old man grins. “I have a habit of collecting unique and rare magical objects. And you should certainly have Severus show you around the castle during break when there aren’t so many students.”

“We probably need to get out of here before the Ministry shows up to ask what happened.” Remus informs the room.

“Yes. Thank you all for your assistance. I will take care of all the questions.” Albus tells you all.

You give Severus a quick kiss before leaving with the rest of the group as you wave your fingers in farewell. As the three of you make your way back to Hogsmeade with Sirius in animagus form to apparate home, you find yourself glad for the chance to see Severus and feeling like a bit of a badass when you glimpse your blue flames still burning down the road.
