After
Wednesday's POV
We spent the night in Principal Weems's office, explaining her how we ended up in the basement and why Tyler's dad - whose name was Norman, by the way - was almast dead on the floor.
Tyler didn't say a word after asking his mother "How's dad?". He just sat in a corner, looking at the floor in silence. It was so unusual for Tyler, being silent, it made all realize the seriousness of the situation.
When we finally got dismissed and we got back in our room, Enid and I were both exhausted. We fell on the nearest bed - my bed - and look at the ceiling.
Our body were literally begging us to sleep but, after everything we saw that night, it was impossible. My mind kept recalling what we saw. Moment by moment.
We saw a God.
- Thing - I heard Enid's voice by my side taking me back at today - how diid you ended up on Miss Weems's shoulder? - she asked.
My friend froze, immobile on my desk.
- When I saw Tyler's father I thought that we couldn't handle it - it signed. - I mean, you are just kids. You went so near the end of the world, I couldn't let you deal with it. So, I thought we needed an adult. Miss Weems was Tyler's father's wife. She was the best choice, so I took advantage of the fact you were all paying attention at the ceremony and I ran away. After all the hours spent exploring the basement, it was pretty easy to run away. I went to her office and explained her the situation. When we arrived in the basement, the timeframe was already gone and I had no idea if the ritual worked. I just hope...
Silence. Not me nor Enid had anything to say.
Thing did the right choice. If it wasn't for it, Norman would be dead now.
- Thank you, Thing - Enid said, expressing out loud what I was thinking. - You did the right thing.
Then she turned around, she kissed me on the cheek and she fell asleep on my shoulder. Having Enid's by my side helped me relaxed, her normal heat temperature was so cozy I fell asleep a few moments later.

We spent the morning after in the bed, while everyone else in school learnt about the adventures we had last night.
We woke up in time for lunch. When we got in the dining room, whispers followed us from everywhere. Ajax, Tamara and Xavier were sat at our usual table, obviously uncomfortabble for the unwanted attention.
- Hey - Xavier greeted us.
- No news from Tyler? - I asked, sitting.
They all shook their head in denial. I expected that.
- His father is at the hospital - Tamara told us. - He has been in coma since the ritual didn't end like it was suppose to.
I nodded.
- I don't wanna stay here - Enid said. - Can we go outside?
Enid's advanced senses probably made her listen what people were saying about us.
- Sure - I said with no hesitation, standing up. The others followed my example and we went to the bench we used to meet under the dead tree.
- Enid! - someone behind us called. We all turned around just to see Juliet run towards us and hug Enid.
Ughhhhh.
- Are you okay? - Juliet asked Enid, interrupting what looks like a suffocating hug.
- I'm fine, Juliet. Don't worry - Enid replied.
- Don't tell not to worry - she replied. - You're a member of my pack, Enid. It's my job to worry about you.
Technically, it was my job to worry about my girlfriend.
- Anyway, I'm happy you're all okay - Juliet said, patting Enid's head and looking at all of us. Then she met my gaze. Usually, I don't look friendly. In that moment, I definitely wasn't being friendly towards Juliet and her hand still on my girlfriend's head.
- You're Wednesday, I guess - she said. - Nice to meet you. Enid told me about her roomate.
Roomate. So that's how Enid felt when I presented her to my family calling her like this.
- She's my girlfriend, actually - she said to Juliet, smiling at me.
- Really? - Juliet's eyebrows rise in surprise. - Well, congratulations.
Then she turned to me, her fangs out. - If you hurt Enid, you'll have to deal with an entire pack of werewolves mad at you. Don't break her heart - she warned me, her eyes glowing.
I rise my eyebrows, amused by the idea of fighting an entire pack of werewolves. I was actually really happy about how protective the other werewolves were towards Enid. She didn't seem so happy. She was actually trying to stop Juliet.
- I would never dare hurt Enid - I said to Juliet.
That was enough to make Juliet switch back to her 100% human form.
- Great, then - she patted Enid's head once again before turning back to her pack.
- What was that? - a voice behind me asked.
Tyler was sat on the branch over us for God only knows how long. He jumped on the grass and asked once again : - Someone else just saw Miss Wednesday Addams making a statement about her relationship status or am I hallucinating 'cause of sleep deprivation?
I snorted in reply and he smirked and winked at me. Tyler seemed the usual Tyler.
-How's your father? - Xavier asked him.
-Better. He's still in coma but he should come back today or tomorrow.
- he replied.
-So, apperently, Tyler isn't the only demigod among us anymore? - Tamara said, the blood sack in her hands as usual.
-Nope. I'm the offspring of Anubi's bloodline - Tyler said, bowing dramatically. -So, I'm gonna be a Nevermore students from now on. Also 'cause my mother doesn't want to take her eyes off me anymore.
We sat on the bench for a while, talking about the courses Tyler wanted to follow and what kind of powers a demigod might have.
-Xavier, you are the offspring of Thot's bloodline. You are good in research and stuff like that 'cause your ancestor was the God of knowledge, right? - Tyler asked.
-Yes. My family is made of academics, researchers or scientists.
- Being the offspring of Anubi, what kind of powers can give me?
- Well, Anubi was the God of cemeteries and protector of the gate of the afterlife. Maybe you are a negromancer. I can make some research about it - Xavier offered.
-No, I'll figure it out by myself. But I would like to know why the ritual failed. I mean the blood test proved that my father is part of Anubi's bloodline, so... -Tyler said, talking to himself more than us.
That was a question that kept wandering in my mind. Last night I was too exhausted but since this morning the question "Why did the ritual fail?" hasn't left my mind.
Xavier cleared his throat and we all turned to look at him.
-Yes? -Tyler asked.
-Well, I made some researches this morning... - Xavier admitted with embarrassment.
-Obviously - Tyler said, smiling and shaking his head.
-And, comparing different version of the ritual, the majority of them required "Anubi's bloodline" but one, a picture of the inscription made in the Book of the Death, so the original manuscript, says "the heir of Anubi's bloodline" which basically means the last member being born. So...
- Me -Tyler ended Xavier sentence. - I was the one who should wear the mask last night.
Our silence welcomed this realization. Tyler was probably feeling guilty 'cause what happened to his father should have happened to him but I was happy. I mean we avoided the apocalypse thanks to a mistranslation. We were all still alive and Tyler's father will be too.
-In 147 years, someone will probably try to make the ritual again. Using one of your heirs - Ajax signed.
- Oh, don't worry about it. The chance I'll have kids biologically mine are inexistent considering I'm gay. And I have no intention to deal with a little monster who will end up like me. I like to consider myself unique. - Tyler said, stopping the conversation. -This ritual will end with me. No one else will end up like my father.
None of us could blame him for thinking this. Or for not having kids, ewww!
- Hey, you five -one member of the staff called us. - In the principal's office.
Tyler snorted. - Now, what she wants?
We all went to meet Miss Weems. She was sat behind her desk like the first time we met.
-After the events of last night, I had a huge decision to took: expell them or suspend them? You put yourself and the entire school, no the entire world, in danger taking for yourselves important information like the existence of a cult mad of supernatural psychopaths who meet in the basement of the school - The voice of the principal was flat but every word that came out of her mouth fell on our shoulders like a mountain.
- I decided not to expel you - she said, and I heard everyone taking a breath, we didn't realize we were holding. -For two reasons: first, you helped us finding strangers in the academia and how they enter, second, you found out who killed that man at the ball and who set the cabin on fire at the beginning of the year. These are the reasons I'll let you stay here. Don't make me regret my decision. Now get out. - she said, pointing at the door.
We started moving outside.
-Tyler - I heard her calling him - you're father is awake.
Tyler didn't reply. He just got out the room and closed the door behind him.
************************************
That's how my story ends, dear reader. I hope it entertain you and scares you enough.
I wrote down with my typewriter - another birthday present from my family.
- What are you doing, dear? - Enid asked me, coming out of the bathroom.
- I decided to write the report of what happend in the past months - I replied, turning around on my chair to look at my girlfriend.
- Awww, I'm gonna be the first one to read your story, right? - she said, jumping and clapping her hands like she always does when she's happy.
- Of course, love - I replied.
Enid and I both froze.
I've just said the L-word. And it wasn't weird.
- Did you just call me "love"? - Enid asked, with the smile she always wears when I show her how much I love her.
-I have no idea what are you taking about - I said, turning back to my typewriter.
I felt Enid's arms around me, she was hugging me from the back.
- Alright, Love. Whatever you say. - she kissed me on the cheek. - But you better know I'm gonna use this against you.
-Oh, really? - I asked, turning aside. - And how, my love?
Enid took advantage of the situation to sit on my lap.
- I have some ideas, my Willa - she murmured against my lips before kissing me.
That was enough. I didn't need a mystery to solve or a criminal to chase. As long as I have Enid calling me my Willa, I had enough.
