"I think we did something bad. I think I did something really, really bad," Harry grasped, as he knelt down in the soot. He looked into his wife's shifty eyes before it went blank.
What if Hermione was fine! What if she was never suicidal. Draco was right. The only reason I found out about Hermione's suicide attempts was when I caught Ron cheating. Could have been lying this whole time? Is Ron capable of making something like that up?
"Wha- what do you mean?" Ginny whispered without meeting Harry's eyes.
"About Hermione being suicidal. Maybe there was something in what Ron said. I love him like a brother, but he's not the most emotionally intuitive person, so he could have misunderstood Hermione's mental state." Harry swallowed down the guilt with the bile gathering in his mouth. What if I am wrong?
"Why would Ron lie about something like that, Harry? That doesn't make any sense. Ron loves Hermione, even if he fell out of love with her. I know he went about it the wrong way, but what was he supposed to do? Hermione was depressed after her parents died and he didn't want to break up with her and date Daphne right after. He was in a tough spot." Ginny said, her hands gripped Harry's shoulders, finger sized dents in his Auror uniform.
"He did say something only when he was caught, Ginny. What if Malfoy was right? Our silence benefitted Ron. He cheated on Hermione for two whole years and we kept silent. We kept silent!" Harry said, last few words shouted . Ginny flinched but didn't give any indication that she heard anything Harry said,
"Malfoy!!! You are trusting the words of Malfoy over Ron, your best friend and brother. That git!! Come on Harry," Ginny snarled, eyes blazed at Harry. He averted his eyes and with slumped shoulders gave her a half smile.
Ginny is right, why should I listen to anything Malfoy says? What does he know about Hermione? Ron would never lie about something of this magnitude.
Harry breathed a sigh of relief as he pushed a specific scene where Hermione encouraged them to seek mental help right out of his heard.
Best not to say anything. Hermione would be angry if she found out I knew about the cheating. Ginny is right. Malfoy knows nothing.
