If only for a moment we could take a chance and see,
and forget for just a breath that we could never be.
"Barty."
His name fell from Regulus' lips as if forced out, those grey eyes, once alit with happiness, suddenly blank, as if there was nothing in the world worth that happiness anymore.
Perhaps, there wasn't.
His hand ran through the dark strands of hair belonging to his lover, sweeping it out of his eyes. Those blue eyes, striking enough that they had once taken Regulus' breath away at the sight of them, would now remain forever closed.
"I love you."
Whispered words traveled through the room, quiet enough to hear the slight choke in the last one as Regulus pulled Barty closer, a single tear escaping those grey eyes Barty had loved.
It was the truth.
The sky was blue, the grass was green, and Regulus Black loved Barty ( Never Bartemious, for Bartemious was his father's name, and that name was never to be uttered near Barty, and never Crouch, for Crouch was the name his father had bestowed on Barty the day he was born. Never Junior, either, for Barty was anything but inferior to his father. )
Barty loved Regulus Black.
There was no love quite like the one the two had for each other.
Strikingly beautiful, the love they had, for the two of them were entwined as if fate had decided it herself. They had known since they laid eyes one each other.
He's mine.
He's mine.
That had been it.
There were no other love confessions, for there was no need for one.
It was plain as day, a fact that had remained constant until.
Until now.
For Barty was no longer able to love. No longer able to breath. No longer able to be Regulus' other half. For that was what he had been.
Their hearts had been melded together by destiny, by fate, herself.
Yet now, one of them was gone. While the other remained to live, no, survive, for there was longer anything to live for.
