Revelations
"What do you mean, you're my mate? I don't have one, " Severus said, leaning forwards and resting his elbows on his knees.
Sirius was silent for a moment before speaking softly. "The fact of the matter is things didn't really happen the way you think they did. You think that you have no mates, but you actually have 2: Remus and myself. You found out on your 18th birthday when your inheritance came in. It was something that none of us could have imagined, but it was blinding. And as all good things do, it had to come to an end when the war started getting worse. You were brought in by Dumbledore and he suggested that you go to Voldemort to become a Death Eater, so our side could have a spy. And of course you had to do the noble thing, so you agreed. Shortly after, there were a couple different occasions of our relationship almost being discovered by Death Eaters and those adjacent with Voldemort, and so we had to take a few measures to protect you and ourselves. If they would have discovered your heritage, you definitely would have not have survived, and we wouldn't have either. At your request, I removed all memories of our relationship and placed false memories in their place. I also added more permanent glamour charms on you, so the ones you had would not fail."
Severus could sense the truth to his statement, but he did not want to believe him. "Why should I believe you?" he asked while making eye contact and seeing the truth behind his eyes as well.
"Because I know things about you that I would otherwise have no idea about. Like the fact that your eye colour changes depending on your mood. Their normal colour is violet, and they turn pink when you're happy, green when you're curious, red when you're craving blood, black when you're angry, orange whenever you're excited about something, and blue whenever you're sad. I know you have a muggle tattoo and you love cars. There's actually a great deal of things that you enjoy about the muggle world, but you would never tell anyone. It took quite a while for you to tell us anything of the matter. And I'm here. I wouldn't know the manor even existed unless you told me. Remus and I actually lived here with you before everything went to shite."
Sirius pulled down the collar of his shirt, exposing his collarbone and Severus saw two small circular scars, a couple inches apart. It was apparent to Severus that these scars were left from a vampire bite. "These are the scars from the first time you ever bit me," Sirius said, while releasing his shirt.
Sirius reached into his pocket and pulled out a vial and held it out to Severus. He took it and inspected it, seeing the familiar clear and white liquid that indicated the contents are a memory. "And I have this. It's your memories that I removed. After I removed them, I hid them so they couldn't be found or tampered with. It was our agreement that after everything was over, I would return them to you and remove your glamour."
Severus' mind was reeling at all of the new information that was revealed to him. The things Black said about him were true, but he had a difficult time believing the other things. He had not one mate, but two. And they are Black and Lupin. Black and Lupin are his mates. How in the hell did he end up with such a twisted fate as being stuck with those two. But if they are truly his mates, he couldn't feel the way he does about them, right?
Severus' thoughts were disturbed by Sirius. "I know it's a lot to take in, especially coming from me. I can give you some time to think about things and come back-"
Sirius was cut off by Severus, "Just do it." He handed him back the vial of memories and reached into his robe pocket, retrieving Black's wand and giving it back to him then sitting down. "All of the preparation in the world would still do me no good."
"Are you sure?" Sirius asked, with hesitation in his voice. "It can be a lot at times, and there's years of memories here."
"Like I said, I'm ready." Severus was indeed not ready, but he knew there was no point in delaying the inevitable. 'Maybe things will work out' was Severus' last thought before his mind was overladen with memories.
