Appearance

 

Natsu is a lean, muscular young man of average height with a slightly tan skin tone, black eyes, spiky pink-colored hair, and has abnormal sharp canines;^[8] Natsu has a scar on the right side of his neck, hidden by his scarf.^[9] Following his intense battle with the Rogue Cheney of the future, Natsu gains a cross-shaped scar on the left side of his abdomen, a result of the two fatal wounds the man dealt to him during their altercations.^[10] He later attains a new scar, this one being a jagged blemish on his right cheek, which he gained following his battle with Zeref.^[11] Natsu's guild mark is red and is located just below his right shoulder.^[8][12]

Natsu's main outfit consists of a sleeveless, gold trimmed, black waistcoat, often left open and untucked, exposing his bare chest, a gold trimmed, black cloth around his waist that reaches his knees, held by a leather brown belt with an oval-shaped silver buckle, white knee-length trousers with black ribbon ties, a thick black wristband on his left wrist,^[8] black open-toed sandals and the scale-patterned scarf he received from his adoptive father, Igneel.^[13] He has also been known to wear a rolled up comforter strapped across his back, though he rarely carries it in battle.^[14]

In the year X791, Natsu's attire receives minor changes. He now wears an open-collared, one-sleeved long overcoat version of his original waistcoat, which is instead tucked in and zipped. The sleeve covers Natsu's left arm with a faux leather brown armband, leaving his Fairy Tail mark, as well as his entire right arm, consequently exposed. Natsu continues wearing Igneel's scarf and retains the same lower clothing. He now wears his wristband on his right wrist.^[15]

After his clothes were taken during his capture by Tartaros and later release, he now wears a new set of clothing: a black long-sleeved jacket, often left open, untucked, and no undershirt (much like his original waistcoat) with light-colored trimming and the sleeves rolled up to his wrists, black baggy pants held by a leather brown belt with a silver buckle around his waist, and a pair of dark brown, high-calf boots; there are several yellow, skull-like patterns on the jacket and pants.^[16]

In the year X792, Natsu is seen wearing a large, tattered, dark cloak with his trademark scarf. His pants are torn and patched and his arms and legs are wrapped in bandages.^[17] Later, he discards this outfit in favor of his old one, although he keeps the bandages on his right arm,^[18] which hide a draconian tattoo^[19] holding a portion of Igneel's power.^[20] Following the one-time use of Igneel's power, the tattoo disappears^[21] and Natsu abandons the bandages.^[22]

Personality

Natsu is carefree and reckless in nature, and, despite his consistent brawls with the other members of Fairy Tail, he is a fiercely loyal and protective friend. He is willing to go down fighting for his friends, regardless of how futile it might seem. Natsu has a straightforward mind, and often tackles issues with a "hands on" approach. His solution to problems often involve violence. Even when disrespected or faced with obvious hostility, Natsu rarely ever reciprocates the feelings, and often forgoes grudge-holding. He did, however, for a short time, hold a grudge against Jellal Fernandes,^[23][24] but eventually forgave him and considered him an ally.^[25] He occasionally shows compassion for his enemies, such as when Cobra was betrayed by Brain.^[26] Natsu rarely exhibits any perverse tendencies towards the opposite sex, there only being two noted instances. The first is seen prior to the Grand Magic Games, when he is seen trying to peek, along with several other of his male Guild mates, on the women as they bathed.^[27] The second is when Lucy comes crashing into him while nude, and he stares at her body, even groping her breasts for a moment.^[28] Natsu is rather immature, making an enemy laugh during a battle,^[29] or even pulling pranks on others. That being said, it has led to foes to underestimate him and fall his tricks as well.^[30] Despite his childish side, Natsu can be responsible enough when looking after someone.^[31]

Natsu continuously tries to prove his strength to others. At various points in time, he has challenged Erza,^[32] Laxus,^[33] Mirajane,^[34] and even Gildarts^[35] (in short, all of Fairy Tail's current S-Class Mages), to fight him, albeit, he was beaten every single time. Despite his losses, Natsu bears them no ill will, as he considers everyone in the guild to be his family. He demonstrates this attitude even towards former enemies. Natsu has even gone as far as defending Laxus from being expelled, despite his attempt at taking over the guild.^[36] Due to his reckless nature, Natsu's fights usually ends with widespread destruction. Natsu's love of fighting has allowed him to develop a rather strategic mind, helping him to, on various occasions, find weaknesses in his opponent's techniques, or simply weaknesses his opponents themselves possess. Natsu has also defeated his opponents with pure wit, rather than brute strength.^[37] Natsu, befitting his recklessness and love of fighting, never backs out of a fight.^[38] Natsu’s love for combat is purely for pitting all his strength against others and see who comes out on top and doesn’t like the idea of murdering people. That being said, Natsu he’ll do whatever it takes to win in serious all out war if it means securing everyone’s safety.^[39]

Natsu hates the idea of self sacrificing one’s life and has prevented those closest to from attempting so, believing it causes others more pain than good, also showcasing how much Natsu values life itself.^[40][41] Natsu values family above all else, stemming from the time he mysteriously lost Igneel the only family he’s known thus holds onto his current one he’s build within the guild and gets mad at anyone who do not appreciate those closest to them.^[42][43]

Ever since their meeting, Natsu has gotten rather close to Lucy, even being overly familiar with her, such as casually breaking into her room, much to her annoyance.^[44] Natsu has admitted that he’s always felt comfortable around her, which he believes is due to her having a similar scent to Anna who cared for him when he was a child.^[45] Lucy clearly means a lot to Natsu, always concerned for her safety,^[46] trusts her a great deal and grateful for all the help she’s given.^[47] He gets enraged at anyone who would so much as harm her a great deal.^[48] More recently, Natsu has attempted to keep his recklessness in check as per Lucy’s advice, even when provoked into fighting by others.^[49]

Natsu was very close to Lisanna for helping him raise Happy who would become his partner and trusted ally. Because of this, after her supposed death, no one in Fairy Tail mentioned her out of respect for his feelings.^[50] However, after Lisanna's return to Earth Land from Edolas, this is no longer the case.^[51]

Out of his guild mates, Natsu feels most antagonistic towards Gray, as the two constantly fight and bicker every chance they have since childhood. The two were even initially reluctant on being on the same team and usually acted friendly towards each other to avoid Erza’s scolding.^[52] Despite all this, they do care for each other as much as anyone in the guild, Natsu has carryed Gray when he’s down, even preventing Gray from sacrificing himself numerous times, even being saddened to tears.^[53] The two are shown at times to at least get along in friendly competitions.^[54]

Natsu fears Erza the most out everyone and panics if he ever gets on her bad side, yet still challenges her to a fight when he can.^[55] Natsu respects Erza for her strength, saying she’s at her best when she’s strong and violent, thus gets mad at anyone who so much as brings her sadness.^[56] Natsu would go as far as defy the Council for Erza’s sake, such as attempting to stop Jellal’s imprisonment knowing it would’ve hurt Erza despite his own issues with him at the time.^[57]

As a Dragon Slayer, Natsu suffers from motion sickness. Natsu becomes sick from riding on any form of transportation, even if the transportation happens to be other people, as shown when he was carried by Lucy. This, however, does not apply to Happy,^[58] as he considers him family, not transportation. Natsu can become sick from looking at, or simply thinking about, any form of transportation.^[59] In spite of his naturally dense nature, Natsu is quite perceptive and understanding of his friend's feelings. After his battle with Gildarts during the S-Class Mage Promotion Trial, Natsu came to understand and accept fear, and has used this acceptance to help his guildmates and himself emotionally grow. Prior to this event, Erza’s wrath (albeit for comic relief), transportation, and the Magic Council were the only things that Natsu feared.^[60]

Magic and Abilities

Fire Dragon Slayer Magic (炎の滅竜魔法 Honō no Metsuryū Mahō): Natsu is adept with his Dragon Slayer Magic and makes use of it in many different ways in combat.^[61][62][63] As with all Dragon Slayers, he can consume his respective element, with the exception of that which he has created, to replenish his energy reserves. The heat of his fire can increase in temperature, which is proportional to Natsu's emotional state. Natsu subconsciously used this against Erigor; his flame's heat significantly rose as he got more enraged, referred to as Flame of Emotion.^[64] Natsu’s natural body heat also makes him resistant to the cold, even within a snowy blizzard.^[65] He incorporates the flames he ignites into his melee fighting style, greatly increasing the damage of his blows.^[66] As such, Natsu's Magic revolves around the usage of fire that can spout from any part of his body.^[67][68]

Natsu's ability to eat any kind of fire gives him immunity to most types of flames, including explosions, even by Curse users^[69] and allows him to spew fire from his lungs.^[70] This fire is exceptionally strong - equivalent to a Dragon's fire - being able to burn even through metal.^[71] The flames he makes cannot be extinguished by normal water.^[72] He can even use his flames to create a propulsive effect.^[73] The type of fire he uses can be changed, as it can be solidified to cling to surfaces like an appendage and control its shape,^[74] this applies to any external flames, as any fire Natsu touches is also turn solid if he wishes.^[75]

By the year X792, after one year of training, Natsu has shown improved mastery over his Dragon Slayer Magic as he is now capable of taking out multiple opponents with just one attack, as shown when he challenged and effortlessly defeated the team of the newly announced No.1 guild in Fiore, Scarmiglione all while melting the arena with his heat,^[76] manipulate the trajectory of his ranged attacks^[77] and later was able to defeat Bluenote Stinger in one attack while burning his Black Hole spell after using his fire to raise the ground against his increased gravity.^[78] Natsu’s body heat now makes him impervious to most sharp attacks such as spikes^[79] and bladed weapons as they’ll just melt instantly upon contact.^[80][81] Aldoron noted that remnants of the fires Natsu has utilised such as those of Igneel, Atlas Flame, and Ignia have all mixed within his own.^[82]

• Fire Dragon's Roar (火竜の咆哮 Karyū no Hōkō): Natsu's signature Dragon's Roar in which he quickly gathers and releases a large quantity of flames from his mouth at his target.^[83] In X792, Natsu's mastery over this spell allows him to create a continuous stream of flames that appears as a wall of fire across a field.^[84] He’s shown to fire a more smaller concentrated breath attack, controlling its trajectory in hitting several targets one at a time even from an incredibly far distance.^[85]
• Fire Dragon's Claw (火竜の鉤爪 Karyū no Kagizume): Natsu ignites his feet in flames, thereby increasing the power of his kicks. The flames can also be used for jet-propulsion purposes such as enhancing his speed and flight.^[86]

• Fire Dragon's Freestyle: Natsu ignites his feet in flames and creates a propulsive effect, granting them enhanced speed even when swimming in water.^[72]

• Fire Dragon's Iron Fist (火竜の鉄拳 Karyū no Tekken): Natsu engulfs his fists in flames and punches the target.^[87] While he was wearing a cat mask, Natsu renamed this ability Cat Fire (猫ファイアー Neko Faiā). In X791, Natsu ate Atlas Flame's hellfire which gave him a temporary ability to use it in a single attack that is strong enough to hurt Motherglare.^[88]

• Fire Dragon's Iron Fist Boosters: Natsu engulfs his fists in flames and creates a propulsive effect, granting him enhanced speed as he run.^[89]

• Fire Dragon's Wing Attack (火竜の翼撃 Karyū no Yokugeki): Natsu rushes towards his target and grabs them, before subsequently setting hands ablaze, sending them flying.^[90]
• Fire Dragon's Sword Horn (火竜の剣角 Karyū no Kenkaku): Natsu lights his entire body ablaze and headbutts the target at a high speed.^[91]
• Fire Dragon's Brilliant Flame (火竜の煌炎 Karyū no Kōen): Natsu ignites both his hands in flames and then brings them together, creating a fiery explosion. In the anime, rather than generating an explosion, Natsu creates a large fireball to throw at his enemies.^[92]

 

• Dragon God's Brilliant Flame (竜神の煌炎 Ryūjin no Kōen): An alternate version of Fire Dragon's Brilliant Flame, Natsu engulfs one hand in the flames from his Fire Dragon Slayer Magic, and the other in flames from Fire God Slayer Magic, and brings the two flames together, generating a highly destructive blast that is capable of destroying a large area, and defeating Zancrow, a member of the Seven Kin of Purgatory in one hit.^[93]

• Fire Dragon's Flame Elbow (火竜の炎肘 Karyū no Enchū): Natsu creates a stream of fire from his elbow, propelling him forward and increasing the strength of his punches.^[94]
• Fire Dragon's Crushing Fang (火竜の砕牙 Karyū no Saiga): With his hand lit ablaze, Natsu swipes at the target in a claw-like fashion, burning them.^[95]
• Fire Dragon's Grip Strike (火竜の握撃 Karyū no Akugeki): Grabbing his enemy and supporting his arm with his other, Natsu blasts the foe at point blank range.^[96]
• Fire Dragon's Roasting Bath (火竜の湯沸かし Karyū no Yuwakashi): Natsu engulfs his entire body in flames to heat up the surrounding area. This is powerful enough to make water reach scalding temperatures.^[97]
• Get Out of There (そこをどけけ Soko o Doke ke): Natsu slams his fist into the ground and creates multiple fire pillars from the ground and onto his target.^[98]
• Fire Dragon's Arm Wrestling Power (火竜の腕相撲パワー Karyū no Udezumō Pawā): Natsu strengthens his arm by engulfing it in flames before slamming it down in an arm wrestling motion.^[99]

• Dragon Slayer's Secret Art (滅竜奥義 Metsuryū Ōgi):

• Crimson Lotus: Fire Dragon's Fist (紅蓮火竜拳 Guren Karyūken): Natsu rapidly punches his target, with his hands lit ablaze, creating a fiery explosion after each subsequent contact. Such a spell was shown to be able to defeat Gajeel Redfox, the Iron Dragon Slayer, who, at the time, was utilizing his Iron Dragon's Scales, and destroy the entire Phantom Lord Guild Building. In the anime, Natsu also used this spell to defeat Erigor.^[100]

• Crimson Lotus: Exploding Flame Blade (紅蓮爆炎刃 Guren Bakuenjin): Natsu swipes his arms in a circular fashion, creating a powerful, and highly destructive, torrent of flames that barrages his target. Natsu habitually uses this spell as a finishing move, having employed against Laxus Dreyar at the end of their battle, used against Gildarts Clive as a finisher, which, notably, caused the mighty Mage to take a few steps back, and once more against Sting Eucliffe and Rogue Cheney, with which he completely overpowered the two, who were in Dragon Force, defeating them.^[101]

• Planetary Flames: Exploding Flame Blade: An enhanced version of Crimson Lotus: Exploding Flame Blade. After consuming the core of Eclipsed Celestial Spirit King, Natsu ignites their fists with fire, as well as the aforementioned consumed energy, and then throws it towards their desired target, creating explosions upon colliding.^[102]

• Hidden Fire Form - Crimson Lotus: Phoenix Blade (不知火型 紅蓮鳳凰剣 Shiranuigata Guren Hōōken): Natsu ignites his entire body with fire, and then charges towards the target, sending them into the air with a sharp uppercut. Natsu then, in a similar manner to Fire Dragon's Sword Horn, headbutts his target. This spell appears to be Natsu's strongest, as it was able to overpower Zero's strongest spell, Genesis Zero, something that Crimson Lotus: Exploding Flame Blade could not, although, this could be because Crimson Lotus: Phoenix Blade relies on piercing power, rather than explosive power. Natsu has only shown using this spell exclusively while in Dragon Force. This destructively unstoppable spell was used to defeat Zero.^[103]

• Purgatory Slashing Dragon Fire (煉獄戟竜炎 Rengoku Gekiryūen): Natsu ignites his fist with intense swirling flames and then charges at his opponent and punches them. The attack produces a powerful explosion, with the resulting complete attack being strong enough to pierce through the bodies of the God Seed Aldoron and the Wood Dragon God, whilst simultaneously incinerating his target to ashes.^[104]

Hell Flame Dragon Slayer Magic (獄炎の滅竜魔法 Gokuen no Metsuryū Mahō): After consuming the fire of Atlas Flame,^[105] Natsu became capable of integrating it into his attacks, parti.^[106][107]

 

Lightning Fire Dragon Mode (モード雷炎竜 Mōdo Raienryū): After eating Laxus Dreyar's lightning and having the flames and lightning inside his body fuse together, Natsu gained the ability to use his Fire Dragon Slayer Magic enhanced with lightning.^[108] When in a state of anger, Natsu is able to summon forth this power, however, it leaves him heavily exhausted afterward.^[109] After unlocking his Second Origin, Natsu experiences a noticeably less amount of strain, thus can now use this mode at will.^[110]

• Lightning Fire Dragon's Roar (雷炎竜の咆哮 Raienryū no Hōkō): Natsu's alternate, lightning-enhanced version of his Fire Dragon's Roar. Natsu gathers and combines lightning and fire in his mouth, subsequently releasing them in a large, destructive, sparking blast. This spell is capable of traveling great distances, wreaking havoc wherever it passes, as shown when it crossed half of Tenrou Island, generating a large explosion. In spite of the fact that this spell is potentially powerful enough to kill a person, a single use is enough to heavily strain Natsu's body and completely drain him of all his Magic Power.^[111][112]

• Lightning Fire Dragon's Iron Fist: Natsu's alternate version of his Fire Dragon's Iron Fist. Natsu engulfs his hand in lightning and flame, and, in addition to being burned after being struck, his opponent's are also struck by a bolt of lightning.^[113] (Unnamed)

• Lightning Fire Dragon's Firing Hammer (雷炎竜の撃鉄 Raienryū no Gekitetsu): Natsu engulfs his fist and forearm in fire and lightning and devastatingly strikes his opponent. Even with its power diffused by Minerva's defense, it was still strong enough to blow away most of the top floor of a large building.^[114]

• Lightning Fire Dragon's Brilliant Flame: Natsu's alternate, more powerful version of his Fire Dragon's Brilliant Flame. Natsu engulfs his left hand in lightning and his right hand in flames, and, after bringing the two together, generates a large, destructive, sparking blast around his opponent.^[115] (Unnamed)

• Lightning Fire Dragon's Attack (雷炎竜撃 Raienryūgeki): Natsu charges at his opponent with incredibly speed to deliver a powerful fire and lightning clad punch, containing enough force to push back his enemy by several meters.^[116]

• Lightning Fire Dragon's Claw (雷炎竜爪 Raienryūsō): Natsu attacks his target with a fire and lightning enhanced kick.^[117]

• Lightning Fire Dragon's Fang (雷炎竜牙 Raienryūga): Natsu closes in on his target with his arms crossed, then delivers a powerful slash onto his enemy with fire and lightning emitting from both of his hands, leaving a massive cross scar onto his target.^[118]

• Dragon Slayer's Secret Art Revision (滅竜奥義 改 Metsuryū Ōgi Kai):

• Crimson Lotus: Exploding Lightning Blade (紅蓮爆雷刃 Guren Bakuraijin): Natsu's alternate, lighting-enhanced version of his Crimson Lotus: Exploding Flame Blade. Natsu engulfs one hand in lightning and the other in flames. By swinging his arms around, Natsu creates a highly destructive vortex of fire and lightning, which greatly damages the opponent and pushes them away with tremendous force. This spell is powerful enough to defeat the almighty Guild Master of Grimoire Heart, Hades, in a single hit.^[119]

• Enhanced Speed: While in this mode, Natsu’s speed greatly increased, as he was able to close the gap between himself and Hades to deliver an attack in an instant.^[120]

 

Black Fire Dragon Mode: After absorbing the flames of Dark Regulus, Natsu is capable of combining these flames with his own for more destructive effects.^[121] However, consumption of the flames of Dark Regulus rendered Natsu temporarily with a fever due to the Dark Magic within the black flames clashing with his Dragon Slayer Magic. Expelling most of the Dark Magic from his body allowed him to recover^[122] and became able to use the Dragon Mode at will with no more side effects.^[123]

• Exploding Flame Blade of Darkness: After absorbing the flames of Dark Regulus, Natsu can use Eclipse Leo's spell to blast away his opponents by combining his own flames with the dark ones.^[121]
• Darkness Phoenix Blade: An alternate version of Crimson Lotus: Phoenix Blade, Natsu gathers the flames of his Fire Dragon Slayer Magic and the dark flames of Dark Regulus in his hand, and then cloaks his body in the aforementioned flames before rushing at his target of desire.^[123]

 

Fire Dragon King Mode (モード炎竜王 Mōdo Enryūō): After ten months of training to store and manipulate Igneel's remaining power bequeathed to him, Natsu is capable of using the power of the Fire Dragon King.^[124] According to Natsu himself, this mode was believed to be strong enough for him to defeat Zeref, however, its full potential depended on the remnants of Igneel's power which, upon activation, could not be recovered and used again.^[125] Even with the absence of Igneel's power, Natsu can still utilize this mode using his own power as a substitute, though it is nowhere near as powerful as before. Any nearby bodies of water such as an entire lake gets instantly evaporated upon Natsu entering this mode.^[126] This mode can be further strengthened by Natsu’s Flames of Emotions, making it strong enough to overpower Zeref's Fairy Heart-Induced Form by burning his spells and his power over time he obtained from the Space Between Time. The intensity of the flames at the time increased so far pass Natsu’s limit that it burned his own soul and even his own arm, a feat no other type fire could inflict onto him,^[127][128] the close exception being after consuming Ignia’s flames where both his arms got burned.^[129]

• Fire Dragon King's Destruction Fist (炎竜王の崩拳 Enryūō no Hōken): Natsu first charges his fist, releasing a huge amount of fire in the process. After a brief delay, he punches his target with immense force so strong, in fact, that it shatters even the biggest of his foes to pieces.^[130]
• Fire Dragon King's Roar (炎竜王の咆哮 Enryūō no Hōkō): An enhanced and empowered version of his Fire Dragon's Roar, that Natsu used to take down an entire battalion's worth of soldiers of the Alvarez Empire and destroyed a vast space of earth in the process.^[131]
• Fire Dragon King's Purgatory (炎竜王の煉獄 Enryūō no Rengoku): Natsu releases an huge amount of fire all over his body while intensely burning his target and everything around him before creating a spherical explosion.^[132]
• Fire Dragon King's Brilliant Flame (炎竜王の煌炎 Enryūō no Kōen): Natsu charges up a dark ball of fire from his palms and focuses the blast in the direction of his target. While being empowered by a Fire Dragon God-induced Dragon Force, Natsu is able to use this spell and overpower Mercphobia's Dragon Roar.^[133]
• Fire Dragon King's Scales (炎竜王の鱗 Enryūō no Uroko): Natsu covers part of his arms with dragon scales, increasing his defense and durability from incoming attacks, especially by powerful sword slashes with minimal damage.^[134]
• Fire Dragon King's Arm Wrestling Power (炎竜王の腕相撲パワー Enryūō no Udezumō Pawā): Natsu strengthens his arm by engulfing it in powerful flames in an arm wrestling motion. The flames gives him enough destructive power to not only overwhelm his opponent, but also destroy the vicinity around them.^[135]

 

Lightning Dragon Mode (モード雷竜 Mōdo Rairyū): After temporarily losing his Fire Dragon Slayer Magic, Natsu was able to utilize the lightning from his Lightning Fire Dragon Mode, incorporating lightning onto his body and performing lightning variations of his original Dragon Slayer spells. While in this mode, he also gains a lightning bolt-shaped scar on his right eye similar to Laxus’.^[136]

• Lightning Dragon's Sword Horn (雷竜の劍角 Rairyū no Kenkaku): Natsu shrouds his body with lightning, then pounces forward with incredible force, delivering a powerful headbutt attack while simultaneously shocking the struck target.^[137]
• Lightning Dragon's Iron Fist (雷竜の鉄拳 Rairyū no Tekken): Natsu engulfs one of his fists in lightning and punches the target, causing sheer blunt damage.^[138]

 

Dragon Force (竜の力ドラゴンフォース Doragon Fōsu): By consuming Etherion or the Flame of Rebuke Natsu has been shown to be able to enter Dragon Force. This ability is said to be the final and most powerful state a Dragon Slayer can attain, and it has been said that their power becomes comparable to that of a real Dragon's.^[139] Natsu is the first known First generation Dragon Slayer to enter Dragon Force without consuming external sources. Natsu becomes more Dragon-like from each use, slowly forming red scales throughout his body. After consuming the Flame of Rebuke, Natsu’s fire while in Dragon Force has retained a golden color ever since.^[140] The exception being when Natsu attained Dragon Force through the flames of the Fire Dragon God, the flames take on a darker aura, Natsu's appearance is altered to feature similar claws he possessed when using his E.N.D. Power.^[141] The spells in this form are augmented greatly, especially when combined with other forms such as Fire Dragon King Mode,^[142] this also makes Natsu capable of overpowering a Water Dragon, despite being his opposite affinity.^[133] His Dragon Force is also strong enough to be able to burn off Magic itself, including Zeref's Ankhseram Black Magic that was being used to restrain him.^[143] While this is active, Natsu is able to attack God Seed Aldoron with his Fire Dragon Slayer Magic that is strong enough to be mistaken for an actual Dragon's flames.^[144]

• Enhanced Endurance With the help of Dragon Force, Natsu was shown to have greater physical stamina as he is able to continue fighting^[145] after enduring multiple thorns impaled all over his body.^[146]
• Enhanced Strength: Natsu's physical strength is greatly enhanced, capable of grabbing one of the largest known Dragons by its tail in the air and slamming it to the ground.^[147]
• Enhanced Reflexes: With the help of Dragon Force, Natsu was shown to have faster reflexes enough to dodge all of the God Seed Aldoron's magical beam attacks.^[148]

Dragonization (竜化 Ryūka): A side effect of Dragon Slayer Magic that causes Natsu to mutate and morph into a Fire Dragon. However, due to antibodies given to him by Igneel, Natsu will never fully turn into a Dragon or inherent it’s negative side effects.^[149] As such, Natsu is only capable of partial transformations, usually forming Dragon scales while in Dragon Force, this state increases Natsu’s feats depending on the extent of the transformation.^[140]

Unison Raid (合体魔法ユニゾンレイド Yunizon Reido): An ability which allows two Mages to unite their Magic into a single, combined, stronger attack. Natsu has shown himself to be capable of using this Magic along with Suzaku to create a powerful spell^[150]

• Fire Dragon's Slash (炎竜斬 Enryūzan): Suzaku hands over his sword to Natsu, who then engulfs the blade with his own flames and flies towards the target with fiery wings to deliver a powerful slash.^[151]

Transformation Magic (変身魔法 Henshin Mahō): Natsu has mastered the rudimentary skills of Transformation Magic. He was able to successfully transform into Lucy on his second try.^[152]

Enhanced Smell: Natsu has a very keen sense of smell. Natsu could easily distinguish Kaby as a poor man, rather than a rich one, from his smell, even though he was temporarily living in his friend's expensive house to appear otherwise.^[153] Natsu could also, as a result of their prior encounter, track Ultear via scent, despite the large distance between them.^[154] When searching for Erza and Mirajane, Natsu could sense a drug used to knock them out among the strong odor of herbs. By burning away the herbs he was able to easily track their location to Tartaros’ HQ which was supposed to be impossible to find.^[155][156] His sense of smell is able to detect those who are related to each other, noticing that Silver had a similar scent to his son Gray.^[157]

Enhanced Hearing: Natsu, according to himself, possesses exceptionally good hearing, something which, during the Grand Magic Games, was proven true. During Lucy Heartfilia's fight with Flare Corona, the latter was threatening Asuka Connell with the help of her hair. Natsu was seemingly the only one who could hear their low conversation, and thus reacted accordingly by protecting the girl from the threat, allowing Lucy to continue fighting.^[158] Natsu also heard Cobra arriving in the outskirts of the city even while high in the air.^[159] In X792, Natsu’s hearing has increased tremendously that he could hear someone being robbed far away from the town he was present in and accurately strike each thief with his fire breath.^[85] He has also proven himself to be able to hear the voices of the Alvarez soldiers searching for a spy from way out at sea.^[160]

Enhanced Sight: Natsu's possesses great eyesight, having been capable of seeing Yukino from afar before his companions can notice where she is.^[161] Natsu’s eyesight also gives a great sense of firing accuracy, capable of striking several flying targets from a distance as they attempt to fly away.^[162]

 

Immense Strength: Natsu has shown on numerous occasions to possess a high degree of strength, enough for him to perform a number of physical feats, among which are freely swinging around the mast of a ship as a makeshift weapon,^[163] doing the same with a palm tree he personally broke, bare-handed,^[164] shattering a billiard table and cracking most of its balls simply by hitting one of them with the cue,^[165] and stopping the gargantuan Dorma Anim's foot, which was going to crush him and his fellow Dragon Slayers, all by himself, subsequently throwing the robotic Dragon off balance by rapidly pushing it away.^[166] Furthermore, he was capable of battling both Sting Eucliffe and Rogue Cheney, alone, while they were in Dragon Force, easily over-powering the two with his sheer physical strength.^[167] Furthermore, Natsu is able to lift a very large boulder, given the fact that he was already injured from Franmalth's Curse, and used it in order to defeat the Demon.^[168] After a year of training, Natsu has also demonstrated the ability to move under the influence of Bluenote Stinger's gravitational field, something eight years before which he was not able to do, though Natsu was in a suspended state for seven of those years while Bluenote was not.^[169] Natsu was able to break through several of Alok's barriers with with sheer force alone, something thought to be impossible.^[170] Natsu has also shown to crush a shard of Stellanium with his bare hand, a crystal mineral said to be harder than diamond.^[171]

Immense Reflexes: Natsu possesses fast reflexes, having been capable of dodging attacks from Erza, Laxus and, most recently, attacks from Sting, quickly evading his lazer beam of light just in time even upon first seeing it.^[172]

Immense Speed: Natsu's natural speed is impressive, enough for him to close great distances in a blink of an eye and dodge swift attacks.^[173]

 

Immense Durability: Natsu has proven himself to be incredibly durable. He has managed to take continual, deadly assaults from foes and continue fighting. Such impressive resistance was first shown during his battle with Erigor, in which he received wounds from his opponent's strong, sharp wind, and kept fighting on, nonetheless.^[174] During his time in Edolas, Natsu fights Faust's mechanical Dragon, where he took powerful hits and continued to fight.^[175] A true testament to his durability was shown when he blocked one of Sting Eucliffe's strongest attacks, Holy Nova, with a single hand, and emerged completely unscathed from the enormous explosion that followed the impact.^[176] Soon after he took on a powerful breath attack from Sting using Dragon Force that destroyed the arena around Natsu.^[177]

Immense Endurance: Natsu has shown to possess an incredible amount of physical endurance as he is able to survive and keep on fighting the God Seed Aldoron after being impaled by a large number of wooden thorns all over his body.^[178]

Immense Magic Power: By the year X792 after one year of training, Natsu's Magic Power has increased to the point where it was unrecognizable to Lucy, but great enough that it prompted her to evacuate everyone out of the Domus Flau despite the presence of many powerful Mages. Natsu can exert his Magic Power in the form of an enormous scalding aura that can generate heat of such magnitude that it is capable of melting the entirety of the stone coliseum, as well as burn off the clothes of any nearby individuals. This displays some level of control of his aura, however, as nobody was actually harmed by the heat, and his and Happy's clothes remained untouched.^[179]

Curse Power (呪力 Juryoku): Referred to his as E.N.D. Power, (ＥＮＤイーエヌディーパワー Ī Enu Dī Pawā)^[180] Natsu as an Etherious is able to access his dormant demonic power that stems from a tumor-like mass within his chest which caused physical pain. This power was subsided when shrunken by Brandish's Command T who later enlarged it back to its original size. Like all Etherious, his desire to kill his creator; Zeref is activated, however he still retains his ability to think and function properly to his will. When Natsu uses his E.N.D. Power to take on his Etherious Form (エーテリアス フォーム Ēteriasu Fōmu) his arms and facial features become more demonic with dark clawed hands, while his attack power increases. He has been seen to control it at will when he deactivated it after Erza stopped his battle with Gray.^[181][182] This demonic power was described to be strong enough to surpass the Gods due to Natsu being able to use it in order to move freely on his own while inside a time-distorted world made by Dimaria which was taught to her by the God of Time himself.^[183] The Curse Power can also be used in conjunction with Natsu's fire, altering it and/or augmenting it while having a dark aura mixed with it the flames.^[184]

• Enhanced Strength: Natsu's physical strength increases higher than usual, capable of breaking free from Magic Sealing Stone cuffs^[185] which even his normal strength still had difficulty budging out prior.^[186] Furthermore, when his arms transform into demonic black clawed hands, Natsu's punches when clashing with Gray's sent out massive shockwaves.^[187]

Master Hand-to-Hand Combatant: Natsu is an extremely proficient unarmed fighter, often using his Dragon Slayer Magic in combination with punches, kicks, and even headbutts, to combat his opponents to great effect.^[66] Such skill is paired with amazing physical prowess: aside from his strength, Natsu has displayed high degrees of speed, agility and reflexes, enough for him to match melee-specialists of Erza's caliber in battle. After 1 year training, Natsu was able to defeat 3 members of Avatar - the successor of former Dark Guilds - in quick succession despite their own prowess.^[188]

Former Magic and Abilities

 

Ushi no Koku Mairi (丑の刻参り Ushi no Koku Mairi): During his fight with Kain Hikaru, Natsu briefly gained possession of Kain's doll, Mr. Cursey, and utilized its abilities.

• Fire Dragon Slayer Doll: Natsu uses his Fire Dragon Slayer techniques and ignites Mr. Cursey, which, at the time, would need to have Lucy's hair, causing the fire to appear on Lucy, herself. Lucy, however, is unharmed by the flames and can use them to her own advantage.^[189] (Unnamed)

• Fire Dragon's Iron Fist (Lucy Version) (火竜の鉄拳 Karyū no Tekken): While using Fire Dragon Slayer Doll, Lucy, under Natsu's control, punches her opponent with great force.^[189]
• Secret Attack: Lucy Fire (必殺・ルーシィファイア Hissatsu : Rūshi Faia): While Mr. Cursey has been lit with Fire Dragon Slayer Magic flames, thereby causing Lucy herself to become ignited in flames, Happy, holding Mr. Cursey, flies at the target, using Max Speed, causing Lucy to do the same, hitting the intended target with great force.^[190]

Thought Projection (思念体 Shinentai): Natsu is capable of creating a Thought Projection of himself after having his soul separated from his body by Wraith as well as fight against him. Unlike most examples, he is invisible to nearly everyone, with only ghosts being able to see him.^[191] However Natsu forgot how to use this ability not long after.^[192]

Ice-Make: Upon switching bodies with Gray via Rival Bond, Natsu temporarily gained his Ice-Make Magic, allowing him to mold ice into any shape or form he wishes.^[193] He initially tried using the ice to improvise an "Ice Dragon's Roar", but the technique failed as ice chunks fell from his mouth.^[194]

• Ice-Make: Ice Punch (氷アイスパンチ Aisu Panchi): Natsu forms a huge block of ice around his fist and delivers an ice enhanced punch as a blunt weapon at a target.^[193]

 

Igneel's Magic Power: Through ten months of dedicated training, Natsu became capable of accessing the residual, inert Magic Power of Igneel that was left within him. During this time a draconian tattoo appeared on his arm that served as the physical manifestation of the aforementioned Magic Power. The Magic Power bestowed to Natsu is said to be the manifestation of Igneel's undying will, however, it is extremely finite, and once it runs out, the user can never utilize its power again.^[195]

 

Seven Flame Dragon's Power (七炎竜の力 Shichien Ryū no Chikara): During his fight with Acnologia within the Space Between Time, Wendy used her Enchantment to temporarily empower Natsu with the combined Magic Power of six Dragon Slayers composed of Laxus, Gajeel, Sting, Rogue, Erik and Wendy herself.^[196] The combined Magic Power takes on the appearance of a rainbow colored energy^[197] that surrounds Natsu's right arm and greatly increases the offensive power of his Fire Dragon's Iron Fist to the point of manifesting it in the form of a huge flaming fist and destructive enough to finally defeat Acnologia himself.^[198]

• Seven Flame Dragon's Iron Fist (七炎竜の鉄拳 Shichien Ryū no Tekken): Combining the Dragon Slayer Magics of Sky, Iron, Shadow, White, Lightning, and Poison, Natsu creates a large burning fist that can cause massive damage upon impact.^[199]

Equipment

Igneel's Scarf: It is a scarf given to Natsu by his foster father, which he always wears to remember him by.^[13] The scarf is white, decorated with scale-like patterns, and serves as good-luck charm of sorts, warding off misfortune. When Natsu was hit by Zeref's Ankhseram Black Magic, the scarf served as his shield, but the exposure to the Magic caused it to turn black.^[200] During the time it was tainted, Wendy was unable to heal Natsu, so, in order to heal him, she had to reverse and remove the evil spell on the scarf.^[201] The scarf is noted to always remain undamaged even when Natsu’s whole attire gets messed up and torn from battle.^[202]

Former Equipment

 

Sealed Flame Blade (封炎剣 Fūen Ken): When Natsu could not employ his Dragon Slayer Magic in Edolas, he fought using a Magic Item from Edolas that manifested its power as a destructive blade of flames. However, the blade's Magic was depleted after one use, due to Natsu's lack of skill with it and his habitual carelessness.^[203]

Mr. Cursey (ノーロさん Nōro-san): A cursed doll that allows Natsu to utilize Ushi no Koku Mairi to control a person’s movements.^[189]

Heat Blade (ヒートブレード Hīto Burēdo): When Natsu and Lisanna were imprisoned and unable to use their Magic within the Tartaros HQ, this sword fell on the ground near their cell and was used to cut off their chains^[204] and escape.^[205]
