New teammates
Hermione shrugged off her jacket as she walked into the locker room. “Morning Gin.”
The red head beside her yawned, “Morning ‘Mione.” Ginny had her hair back in a low ponytail and wore a maroon t shirt with a lion emblem on the back. It was their divisions emblem; there where four.
The red team had a lion, the blue team ahead a raven, the yellow team had a badger, and the green team had a snake. The different teams often merged for competition and would pair up to learn routines so there would be enough players. This kept the teams small enough to travel, fit in locker rooms, and go to whatever community building activity Adromeda made them go to. This year the Red would be competing with Yellow, and Blue would be merging with Green.
Hermione shut her locker but left her equipment inside. That morning she had gotten a text saying today that it wouldn’t be necessary. “Do you know why we won’t need our equipment?”
Ginny shrugged, “Dunno but I betcha someone’s gonna bring it anyway.”
Hermione pretended to cough “Ron” cough. Ginny snickered as she closed her locker.
The pair walked out of the locker rooms and stood in a group where all the teams had gathered. Hermione sat down with Ginny relatively close to the front. “This makes me feel like a kid.” Ginny muttered.
“We aren’t that old Gin, just 24.” Hermione shrugged. Before they could continue their conversation Andromeda Tonks walked out in front of the group.
“Morning team. Ron why do you have your flag?” Andromeda motioned for him to return it to his bag so he rushed off.
Ginny slipped five dollars into Hermione’s hand, “You called it.” She whispered.
Andromeda continued with her announcements, “Today we have two new joining us; A teammate and an assistant coach.”
“Which team?” Someone called out.
“Green snake.” Andromeda answered. All the heads in the room turned to the door that creaked open. “God I need to fix that.”
Two relatively tall adults walked in and arrived beside Andromeda. One was a man with black jeans and a black dress shirt.
‘Probably the coach.’ Hermione thought quickly based off of the fact that no active teammate would wear jeans to practice, but the girls thoughts stopped short when she noticed his companion.
She was a tall woman, pale skin, piercing blue eyes, and black hair with the underside bleached blond. She bore a striking resplendence to Andromeda and wore black sweat pants like the other teammates, and a loose green long sleeve shirt with the snake logo on the back tucked into her pants.
The new woman stood between the man and Andromeda. “Everyone,” Andromeda began as she gestures to the woman, “this is my sister, Narcissa Mal- Black. Narcissa Black.”
“I call nepotism.” Draco called out.
Andromeda rolled her eyes, “And continuing on this is Severus Snape.”
“Coach Snape.” The man corrected and now it was Narcissa’s turn to roll her eyes. Hermione thought she had nice eyes.
“Narcissa is of course a flag. She also does rifle and some dance parts. As for Sev,” Snape glared at Andromeda and she corrected herself, “Coach Snape, he does saber, dance and flag.”
Narcissa smirked and said “Just because he can dance doesn’t mean he should.”
Andromeda nodded in agreement. “Ok so! Any questions?”
Draco’s hand shot up. “Are we going to have to do team building exercises because of the new members?”
Ginny slapped him in the back of his head, “You twat!” She whispered through her teeth.
Andromeda smiled slyly. “We shall see.”
Hermione asked, “What league are they in?”
Different members of the guard where decided into classes, the Varsity guard and the Freshman Guard. The classes where grouped by skill and experience rather than age, but usually the freshman where younger; there weren’t many Varsity Guardsmen. Typically each color team had around three each, and they would usually have to stay for longer practices. This year the Red lions had two Varsity Guardsman; Ginny Weasley and Tom Riddle. Yellow Badger; Cedric Diggory. Blue Raven; Myrtle(no one really knew how old she was or what her last name was), and Slytherin; Lucius Malfoy. Of course these could change depending on who joins or leaves the team, and Coach Andromeda or one of the other coaches (Sirius Black, Lilly Potter, and now Severus Snape) had been known to demote someone for a season or two.
“Well Snape is exempt from Classes cause he’s a coach.” Andromeda said, “But Narcissa is a Varsity guardsman and probably the best Varsity on Green Snake.” Ron raised his hand. “Yes Ron?”
“We need better team names.”
Andromeda paused for a moment. “Sure. Everyone email me suggestions and I’ll figure it out. Ok well I’m going to go finalize contracts, today is a free practice day.” The woman turned and walked into her office off the hallway by the gym.
All of the yellow badgers and blue ravens left to go to the other gym after claiming their things while the green and red teams stayed in the main gym.
As they walked back to get their things, Ginny whispered to Hermione that she really should stop staring at Narcissa. Her friend’s tone was jokingly accusatory. Hermione rolled her ayes and punched Ginny lightly. She wasn’t staring at Narcissa was she?
No of course I wasn’t, Hermione though to herself.
Hermione wasn’t staring.
Narcissa wasn’t that attractive.
Hermione was just hadn’t slept well.
Two lies and a truth.
