breakup.
it had been a week since James’ breakdown and his confession.
and since barty and evan.
they had been avoiding eachother, well barty had been avoiding evan. of course he liked him, but he does not want to be a homewrecker.
he couldn’t even look james in the eye without guilt washing over him. it was terrible.
as for james and regulus, they weren’t on speaking terms. they were far from it. regulus glared every time james came near, as did james.
whenever evan and james were together, regulus stared hard at james, as if warning him. regulus didn’t want his best friend to be heartbroken, and he definitely didn’t want to be the reason he was.
fuck James Potter.
That morning, the common room was empty, except for barty and evan, since they both had a free period. They caught each others eyes every few moments, but Barty was quick to look away.
this time it happened, and barty looked away as usual.
suddenly, evan slammed his book shut.
“okay. enough barty. what the fuck? why are you ignoring me?” he shouted
“i’m not..” he murmured
“yes you are! we haven’t spoken since.. well.. that- and i’m sick of you ignoring me!”
“yeah okay fine. i am ignoring you. so what?”
“so what? Barty we are supposed to be friends-“
“yeah. friends. then what the fuck was that last week? you’re with james. okay? you are with james . not me. so don’t act like that. i won’t ruin whatever it is you and james have going on. i don’t want to be that person.”
“barty look. me and james-“
“i don’t care evan. just leave me out of it.” barty grabbed his bag and stormed out. leaving evan alone.
“open up potter we need to talk.” evan knocked on james’ door. multiple times and quite loudly.
“coming- oh evan. what are you doing here?” he opened the door and was shocked to see evan standing there.
“we need to end this. now. i just wanted to make barty jealous but it’s way worse now. i tired to confess my feelings but he won’t do anything since i’m with you.”
“i was gonna say that too. the same thing happened with me and regulus. not fun when you’ve got loyal best friends eh?” he joked.
“yeah it really isn’t. so how are we going to do this? regulus probably won’t get with you even after we’ve broken up. he’s a loyal bitch. love
him for it though.” evan said
“we need to make it public for the school, but we can tell barty and reg that it was fake? just so we have a clean slate.”
“smart. well potter . you were a good boyfriend.”
“you weren’t too bad yourself rosier. now, let’s do this.”
The next day, the plan was in motion.
Once everyone had filed into the great hall for breakfast, Evan winked at james.
“OH. well if you wanna talk , then let’s talk” James stood up from his seat and yelled. heads turned to see what all the commotion was about.
“yeah i want to talk. this is too much for me. no actually it’s not enough. i don’t feel the spark anymore okay james?” evan also stood up, and faced james.
“oh yeah? well me too. that ‘spark’ was gone long ago. i think we should break up” james declared, and at this, gasps and whispers erupted from the rest of the students.
barty looked somewhat relieved, and regulus looked pale.
“good! we can finally agree on something” evan said. he then turned to the rest of the hall.
“i hope you enjoyed the show” he spat, and walked out. james following close behind.
regulus and barty looked at eachother, both sharing an expression of hope. of course they felt sympathetic for their best friend, but the breakup was mutual?
however, deep down, regulus had a feeling of dread. this was his fault. james said that he liked him, not evan. now his best friend is hurt because of regulus. fuck what was he going to do?
barty was elated, but something unsettled him. what if the breakup was his fault? barty didn’t want to be a homewrecker but it seemed
to be turning out that way.
he shook this feeling then got up to comfort his best friend.
“where are you going?” regulus asked
“to go talk to evan. he’s probably upset.” he replied. “do you want to come?”
“no it’s fine you go ahead.” regulus didn’t think he could face evan right now, too much guilt.
“ok then. i’m going now, see you” and with that , he left, leaving regulus all alone.
snape , mulciber and avery walked over to where he was sitting.
“what do you want ?” he asked curtly, not even looking up.
“well we are willing to forgive you. you can be our friends.” mulciber chuckled
regulus just laughed.
“why would i ever be friends with you? and what’s there to forgive, i haven’t done anything you thickos.” regulus spat
“well you are always hanging out with those blood traitors and your brother. and now that rosier and potter have broken up, the friendship won’t be so easy now will it?” avery answered. regulus just glared at him.
“i don’t know why evan would ever go out with that prick potter. he’s just a no good blood traitor. and he’s just a fucking weirdo, with all his disease and shit.” the three of them laughed, but the noise was cut short when regulus’ plate smashed into avery’s face.
reg then pulled out his wand and hexed all three of them, stole their wands and pocketed them. he left them there , mulciber with jelly legs, snape bound, and avery floating in the air.
regulus walked out of the hall, cursing this whole day.
