match of the year
soon the whole school had heard about James and Evan. Rumours were already flying around ; people were saying Evan had James under the imperio curse or gave him a love potion.
Loads of people had come up to them and asked about their love story and how they got together. they said the same thing every time, ‘it was fate’.
Regulus was not enjoying this. It bothered him how they were dating, he didn’t know why but it just did. Maybe because Regulus HATED James his whole life, still does, and Evan was well aware of that, but went over and fucked him anyways.
He was watching them from his seat at the table when Sirius came and sat down next to him .
“excited for the game Reggie?” he smirked
“sure. my house vs your house. you are quite a bad beater. what a shame the game will be over in seconds. you know, when i catch the snitch.” Regulus patted Sirius on the back mockingly.
“what are we talking about here then?” it seems James had left his boyfriend and came to talk to sirius and regulus instead.
“little reggie over here thinks he can beat us today at this game” sirius explained .
James scoffed and told Regulus
“ no way. sorry, but we have the best team. Frank is the best keeper, marlene and sirius are AMAZING beaters, and i’m a great chaser. plus our seeker is pretty amazing too. we will beat you in no time.”
“right but my teams pretty good too. and the only thing that really matters is the seeker. and trust me, i’m MUCH better than yours” he directed this at james, and winked as he said the last line . This wasn’t about seekers.
“HERE THEY COME! The first match of the year : slytherin versus gryffindor . Who will come out victorious? This game is a special one, since we have the Black brothers playing against eachother! very interesting.” remus’ voice echoed across the pitch.
regulus giggled to himself, why was remus commentating? he knew shit about quidditch. whatever, this was going to be hilarious.
“okay and here is the slytherins walking onto the pitch. oh hey reggie! REG HI WAVE BACK U ASSHO- sorry professor won’t happen again. OH! and here come the gryffindors, looking confident as ever. uhh oh yeah the ball thing is now being thrown into the air. YES! James Potter has now taken the ball. He’s flying and flying and- OH SHIT. ANOTHER BALL LIKE HIT HIM- HOW IS THAT FAIR ?? oh right the bludger. sorry professor won’t happen again” everyone in the crowd seemed to enjoy remus’ commentary, as they were all pissing themselves laughing.
as for reg, he was scanning the pitch for the snitch. he hadn’t seen it yet, but he will soon. hopefully.
“james watch out!” marlene flew straight to james and hit her bat as hard as she could.
“phew thanks marls. barty keeps lobbing those bludgers at me. no clue why” oh but james knew why. he was still pissed about him and Evan.
James had the quaffle and was going straight for the goals . he threw it and …. SCORE! the first goal of the game
“YES JAMIE. YOU MARVEL. JAMES POTTER HAS SCORED! 10-0 TO GRYFFINDOR!!” remus screamed.
the game carried on for a while, and now the score was 80-80. a tie.
Regulus decided to fly higher to get a better view for the snitch. he cursed when he realised who he was next to.
“hey black! long time no see. so where’s that snitch you said you were gonna get?” james mocked
“i’m not talking to you.”
“why not?”
“trying to focus on the game potter. you should too.” regulus looked at him and suddenly spotted a hickey on his neck.
“you could at least try to cover that” he mumbled
“oh what, this hickey? you mean the one my boyfriend gave to me. yeah last night was wild. we got a bit- carried away.” james winked and laughed inside when he saw the look of pure fury on regulus’ face.
suddenly, he lunged straight for James.
James ducked and turned around to see Regulus speeding through the air for something.
oh shit - no no he had found the snitch.
“SIRIUS , MARLENE!!” James yelled for his beaters and pointed at Regulus. They needed to stop him before he got the snitch.
“ON IT!” sirius was about to throw the bludger at Reg, aiming for the end of his broom so he would be stopped.
someone flew into sirius from the back and his bludger went a completely different way. instead of hitting the end of regulus’ broom, it flew straight towards his face.
Regulus didn’t see it coming, and kept going for the snitch.
“regulus has seemed to have spotted the snitch. but wait- a ball is going straight for him. looks like it’s going to hit his face- REG LOOK OUT!” remus shouted, but it was too late.
the bludger made contact with his face, and knocked him straight off his broom. the last thing he could remember was falling and falling.
marlene pov
these stupid showers, always too hot. marlene decided to just take one in her dorm later. she grabbed the towel and wrapped it around herself. she stepped out into the empty changing rooms and went to get her clothes.
“barty are you- oh shit i’m sorry” someone’s voice came from the door.
“holy shit i’m changing in here-“ marlene turned to see dorcas, standing with her hand covering her eyes
“sorry sorry i was looking for barty. i must have the wrong changing rooms . i’ll uh- leave you to it.” dorcas said , embarrassed and turned to leave.
“wait! you’re that girl from the party? we had to go in the closet for like 7 minutes together.” marlene recalled.
“oh yeah, i remember you. well i’m dorcas.”she stuck her hand out.
“i’m marlene.” she shook it.
“woah your rings are so cool. where did you get them?”
“i made them myself. here take one” she took one of her rings off her hands and handed it to marlene.
“oh no i couldn’t. they’re too nice”
“no please take it. it looks much better on you.” dorcas smiled
“i’ll see you later marlene” and she left .
marlene stood there with major butterflies. dorcas was breathtaking. her eyes were so warm and beautiful and her hands- wow.
why did marlene feel this way? dorcas was a girl. marlene was a girl. marlene didn’t like a girl. no way . did she? no, no she didn’t.
she groaned in frustration and got changed . she didn’t want to think about this anymore.
Dorcas ran to the hospital wing the minute she found Evan and Barty. They pushed the doors open and found Regulus on the bed.
“reg! is he okay?” dorcas turned to sirius who was holding reg’s hand. his eyes were red and puffy, and he was silent.
“he’s unconscious but Madam Pomfrey is sure he’s gonna be okay” James answered, and dorcas noticed how there were already some people here. Peter and Remus were on the other side of the bed with James.
James also looked sick with worry.
“it’s your fucking fault. why would you tell them to hit a bludger at reg? are you stupid?” barty erupted, pointing at james
“i was just trying to stop him . not knock him off his bloody broom. i was just playing the game.”
“yeah well not very well. now look at him. he’s fucking unconscious in a hospital bed. and who’s fault is it? yours.” dorcas had never seen barty this angry.
“so you can all fuck off. i think the only people entitled to be here is sirius and us. so you three can leave.” barty gestured at james peter and remus.
they did as they were told, and all said goodbye to sirius before they left. he was still silent.
a few minutes had passed, pandora came as soon as she heard and now the 4 of them, dorcas ,pandora ,barty and evan were spread around the bed.
“ it’s my fault. i threw the bludger. i’m the reason he’s hurt.” sirius looked ashamed of himself, and hung his head even lower.
“no don’t say that. it’s not your fault. nobody thinks that. quidditch isn’t the safest game in the world and it was an accident. okay? nobody’s fault.” pandora grabbed sirius’ other hand and gave him a reassuring look. she then looked at barty and whispered
“it’s not james’ fault either. we all know why you’re mad at him but don’t act like this now. it’s not worth it.” Pandora everybody; the mother of the group.
they all sat next to regulus the whole day until pomfrey came and kicked them out.
“miss please i want to stay with my brother for a bit longer” sirius pleaded, and Pomfrey seemed to take pity on him and let him stay. the rest of them had to leave.
“reg will be okay , right?” barty looked over at dorcas .
“of course he will. he’s Regulus Black.”
