Today is Really Not My Day

“Miss Weasley, what would be the incantation of the Smokescreen Spell?”

Ginny’s head shot up. She hadn’t really been paying attention, just mindlessly paging trough her school book. “I do not know, sir.” Professor Snape sneered down at her. “Euhm, typical. Detention Weasley, for failling to pay attention.” Ginny groaned, bitting her tongue to stop from arguing back. Knowing that that would only give her another detention.

“Fumos is the incantation for the Smokescreen Spell. This charm can be quite useful in duelling. It can prevent your opponent to accurately aim their spells or…” Ginny was already tunning Snape’s voice out. Merlin, and she thought having him for potions was bad. Atleast he is not as awfull as Umbridge, but everyone would be better than Umbridge.

The bell signaling the end of class interupts her thoughts. “I want an essay about the useage of the Smokescreen Spell done next week. Class dismissed.” Ginny start pakking her bag, already trying to plan when she would have the time to write her essay. She tries to leave quickly. “Miss Weasley” Damn, she had hoped he had forgotten. “Be at my office at five for your detention.” Ginny nods and leaves the classroom.

“Is it just me or is Snape getting worse every damn year?” Ginny asks, taking a seat next to her brother at the Gryffindor table. “Yeah, he gets meaner with age.” harry answers. “He gave me a detention for today after class.” Ron looks at her “But we have quiditch practise this afternoon.” “Right, I didn’t even think about that. Maybe I wil just skip his detention.”

“I don’t think that’s wise.” Hermione comments, looking up from her book. “You will only end up in more trouble. What did you even do to recive detention?” “Honestly, I didn’t do anything. Snape was just being a git.” Ginny sighed filling her plate with her lunch. “I’m sorry harry, but I guess I will not be at todays practise.” “Its alright. It is not your fault Snape is a slimmy haired prick.”

“Today is really not my day.” Ginny thinks while taking a bite of her stuffed potato.

At three minutes past five Ginny arrives at Snape’s office. The time past her by while writing her essay about that stupid Smokescreen Spell. She knocks and goes inside after hearing an “Enter”. Snape looks at her “Should I give you another detention for failling to be punctual?” Ginny stumbels trying to explain herself. “No, sir. I forgot the time while doing my-” “I don’t care why your late. Don’t let it happen again.” Snape interups her. He pointed to a pile of parchment on a small desk. “Your detention for today is to alphabetize those documents.”

Ginny bit back a groan. That is going to take her at least an hour. She sits down and looks trough the documents. They detail different potion ingredients. She starts her task, beginning by Abraxan hair.

After roughly tree quarters of an hour, there is a knock and the office door opens. Ginny looks up, a young girl stands shyly in the doorway. Ginny doesn’t know her name but recognizes her as a thirth year Slytherin. The girl glances at her and then addresses professor Snape. “Professor! We were studying for charms when Malcolm accidentaly spelled himself stuck to the table. We tried to get him lose but nothing we do works.”

Professor Snape sighs pinching his nose. “Right, I will go down to help Mr. Baddock get unstuck.” He stands up glarring at Ginny. “I will be back as soon as I can. Continue your task and don’t touch anything while I’m gone. Trust me, I will know if you did something you shouldn’t have.” He walks around his desk and leaves his office, clossing the door behind him.

And Wormwood Essence, “finally done” Ginny wispers to herself. Snape still hasn’t returend, should she just leave? He said it wouldn’t take long. She decides to wait till he is back. Better to wait for a bit than getting another detention for leaving without being dismissed.

Trying to cure her boredom she looks around the office. Being in the dungeons its dark and cold. The longest wall is compleerly coverd by shelves filled with books and unusual trinkets. She stands up and walks to the shelves, trying to read some of the book titels.

Hoax and Dreams’ by Laura Thorn, ‘Goshawk’s Guide to Herbology’ by Miranda Goshawk and ‘Protection Charm Your Mind: A Practical Guide to Counter Legillimensy’ by Franciscus Fliedwake. Ginny moves on, not that interested. There are some labeled flasked filled with almost glowing potions which Ginny studies for a while. Eventualy her interest is peaked by a odd looking hourglass.

The hourglass is small only three inches tall with beautifull feet made from black crystal. But the most interesting about it is what’s inside. There is no sand but a pearl like fluid, it swirls around in the bottom half of the hourglass. Ginny picks it up and turns it around in her hand. The pearly fluid trinkels down in slowmotion, as if it moves in a different sort of time.

Hearing foodsteps approaching Ginny quickly puts the hourglass back in its place. She turns around facing the door while suddenly feeling a bit light headed. Time seems to slow down, the silence between the steps taking longer each time. Her head fills with a buzzing sound, that gets louder by the second.

The last thing Ginny is aware of is the sound of a creaking door being opened.
