
Chapter 1
For someone who doesn’t like mornings, you woke up on this one with a smile on your face. You couldn’t wait until the clock hit midnight. When it did you would turn 18, and with that, you would get your soulmate tattoo.
When anyone in the wizarding world turned 18, they got a small tattoo on the inside of their left wrist. If it’s red that means you either haven’t met your soulmate or they don’t have their tattoo yet. It turns black either when you meet them or if you’ve already met them, when they turn 18.
Throughout all of your classes all you could think about was your tattoo. You were having a party in an abandoned room that night and you couldn’t wait. You couldn’t help wondering if your soulmate is your boyfriend.
You didn’t mean to get into a relationship but then Harry Potter strolled into your life. His charm hooked you. You two had only been dating for two months and you were both young. You didn’t expect he would be your soulmate, but it would be amazing if he was.
You ran into Harry during lunch.
“Hey babe.” He started.
“Hey.” You replied.
“Are you excited for tonight?” He asked.
“So excited. I can’t wait to get my tattoo.” You answered, beaming.
“Aww. I can’t wait. Well, I got to run to a quidditch team meeting. I’ll see you tonight. Love you.” He said before kissing you and leaving.
“Love you too babe.” You said.
“He’s totally your soulmate.” Your friend Hermione said, materializing out of nowhere.
“One can hope.” You replied. “I can’t wait to find out!”
You had memorized Harry’s soulmate tattoo. He’s a few months older than you so he already has his. It’s four intersecting straight lines that make a rectangle with lines extending past the corners.
You loved his tattoo.
The rest of the day passed slowly. Finally, the bell rang, and you ran to your dorm. You and your friends were meeting in the Gryffindor common room before having a pre-party getting ready hangout.
You got there so fast. Slowly Hermione, Ginny, and Luna got there too. You all ran to your room.
For the next few hours, you all just hung out, gossiped, and played games. Finally, everyone got ready. You were wearing a short, loose, white dress with puffed sleeves. Then the four of you got to the room where the party will be and set up.
You got dinner and went back up to the room. It was hidden in a quiet wing of the school. There’s a statue in front of the door who you convinced to move for the night by giving him a glass of champagne.
Around 10 at night people started showing up. You had invited pretty much everyone you knew. Around 75% of the school showed up. Drinks were flowing, the music was great, and everyone was having a good time.
In no time at all it was 11:30. You were so ready to get your tattoo, but you were a little scared. What’s going to happen to you and Harry if you're not soulmates? You squeezed his hand and tried to push the thoughts away.
You looked around the room. You, Harry, and your friends were sitting at a table. A group of Ravenclaws you know were standing close by. A couple Hufflepuffs were trying to flirt with them. Your gaze caught on the group of Slytherins.
Draco and Pansy were surrounding Mattheo. They were talking to him about something, but he was staring directly at you. You were frozen in his gaze for a moment before you remembered who you were. The most popular Gryffindor with a boyfriend can’t be making intense eye contact with the most popular Slytherin.
Goddammit Mattheo Riddle.
You were literally pulled out of your thoughts when Hermione grabbed your arm and pulled you into a side room connected to the main one. All that was in there was a clock and Ginny and Luna.
“What’s going on?” You asked.
“It’s almost midnight. We thought you might want a few minutes away from prying eyes once you get your tattoo.” Hermione replied.
“Thank you.” You said gratefully. You sat with the girls while the last few minutes ticked by.
Suddenly it was 11:59. There was a crowd outside the door. Harry was front and center. The seconds ticked by. A chant started.
“10.”
“9.”
“8.”
“7.”
“6.”
“5.”
“4.”
“3.”
“2.”
“1.”
You looked down as marks started materializing on your wrist. After a second the tattoo was complete. It was three overlapping black triangles in a line with a straight line through the center.
Black.
You had already met your soulmate.
Triangles. Your soulmate wasn’t Harry.
You screamed, “It’s black. I’ve already met my soulmate.”
You held up your wrist and showed it off. You could see everyone’s excitement. You could also see Harry’s face fall. He quietly sank away from the crowd. Someone handed you a glass of champagne.
You raised it up and announced, “Alright y’all I’m 18. Let’s party!”
You chugged the champagne and turned around, facing your friends. You whispered, “Did you see Harry’s face?”
They nodded.
“Oh god. You know what, I’ll deal with it tomorrow. Let’s have fun tonight.” You said, determined not to let a dumb tattoo ruin your birthday.
You walked back into the main room and started chatting with a group of Ravenclaws. You glanced over and saw Harry sitting in a corner with Ron. You turned your attention back to the group.
Suddenly a voice in your ear whispered, “Follow me.”
You were surprised to see it was Mattheo. You followed him into the quiet corner of the party.
“Why did you bring me over here Mattheo?” You asked.
“Show me your wrist. I think I know who your soulmate is.” He replied.
Your eyes widened as you held out your arm. “So, who is it?” You asked.
“Me.” He answered. He held out his wrist. It was the exact same tattoo. “It was red this morning." he whispered.
You didn’t know how to reply to that. You didn’t know how to feel. Suddenly you were stopped from replying as your vision went black. You were passing out!
You started to fall, and Matheo caught you. People noticed and were asking what happened.
“She found out I was her soulmate.” Mattheo answered. That was the moment you regained consciousness.
