Family Line
As Regulus opened the door he nearly slammed it right back. And he would've if it hadn't been for his dear old brother holding it open using his hand and his honestly shocking strength.
"Hey bro" Sirius said the same arrogant smile Regulus remembered plastered on his face "Are mom and dad here?"
"What do you want Sirius?" Regulus asked already annoyed.
"Well first off, hi how are you so glad to see you" Regulus rolled his eyes "and happy birthday" Sirius pulled out a box and handed it to Regulus
"You realize that I haven't seen you in 4 years right? You vanished, so what do you want Sirius?" Regulus asked growing more irritated by the second
"okok fine," Sirius cut himself off and looked down, when Regulus followed his gaze he saw Karma rubbing against Sirius' ankle "aww she got even cuter" Sirius said bending down to pet her.
Regulus cleared his throat to get Sirius' attention. "What are you doing here Sirius?" Just as Regulus finished asking Walburga and Orion appeared behind him.
"Sirius" Walburga said coldly
"Mother" Sirius responded suddenly sounding pissed off.
"What do you think you're doing on my doorstep?"
"I've come to see if my brother wants to come and live with me instead of staying with you two."
what? Regulus questioned that was why he was here? why didn't he just say so
"You don't have a brother, if you're talking about your sister that's something else entirely" Orion suddenly cut in. Regulus visibly winced. Sirius looked like a fire had suddenly been sparked in his grey eyes making them look silver.
"Here I'll make this really easy for you two since you want to be transphobic assholes" Sirius turned to Regulus who had long since moved over and was now holding Karma close to his chest "Regulus, you're 18 in" Sirius looked at his watch "3 minutes and 12 seconds, do you want to keep living here or do you want to come stay in Pottermore with me?" Sirius looked at Regulus expectantly. So did his parents.
"I-I" Regulus stumbled over his words "I-" Regulus was cut off by a cough "Who was that?" he asked grateful for the distraction from the question. Sirius stiffened and the confidence dropped from his face.
"It was nothing don't worry about it just answer the question Regulus." Sirius said with surprising speed. But now Walubrga and Orion were getting suspicious.
"Did you bring someone else to the manor, Sirius?" Walburga said angrily.
As Sirius went to shake his head no, an exceptionally tall man came out from Sirius' side. "Sorry, Sirius" the tall man said in a very heavy northern accent. The man had almost a foot on Sirius. "You must be Regulus" the tall man said extending a hand out for Regulus to shake "I'm Remus, I'm one of Sirius' friends"
Friends? Regulus questioned to himself, before he realized: Sirius didn't tell him he was in love with him
"Yes I'm Regulus, I've heard a lot about you. You run the animal shelter in Pottermore right?"
Remus chuckled before saying "Yeah I do and I recognize her from a couple years ago" Remus pointed to Karma who was still asleep on Regulus' chest.
Sirius looked like he would combust if the two of them kept talking, so Regulus tried his darnedest to keep the conversation going
"I would hope so, I remember the day I got her and the tangent Sirius went on right before he gave her to me." Regulus smirked and looked directly at Sirius as he finished his sentence.
"That's enough of that" Sirius cut their conversation short with a beet red face before looking at Regulus "do you want to come with us or stay here. It's up to you Reggie."
Regulus looked at Sirius then at his parents who had been shockingly silent throughout this whole ordeal then back at Sirius.
"Let me go pack" Regulus said after several beats of silence.
But now is when his mother decided to speak up "if you're leaving you can leave just like that. You don't get to take things that your father and I spent money on just because you want to be as selfish as your brother and leave us."
"Actually mother" Sirius started speaking "He's 18" Sirius spoke in a matter of fact tone showing his mother the watch on his wrist "So he's not running away and everything in this house is rightfully his, so let him go pack his stuff and get out of our way."
"That's not how this works" Walburga tried to say
"Actually that's exactly how it works and until you get your will legally changed everything in this house, the house itself and his hefty inheritance are all his." Sirius responded with a smug smile like he'd been preparing his entire life to say all that. Knowing him he probably has. "Go pack Regulus, I'll come with you" Sirius said again motioning toward the stairs.
Regulus just nodded and led Sirius up to his room, which was Sirius' old room.
Once they were in the room, Regulus started grabbing his necessities and his trunk that him and Sirius had customized themselves when Regulus came out. The letters of his deadname had been hacked off and they had been painted over with golden paint that Sirius had received for Christmas the year before. In a beautiful script Sirius had written Regulus and got more paint for them to paint over the hyper-feminine decals on it.
Regulus smiled fondly at the memory and set his trunk on the bed before neatly folding everything and putting everything he had grabbed earlier into the trunk. "Thank you for coming to get me" Regulus said to Sirius, but he said it so quietly you would think he was saying it to himself.
"No problem, dude. I knew how how they were with you so I assumed it only got worse after I left." Sirius said smiling "What else do you want to grab?"
Regulus smiled from his closet before responding "Can you just run to my bathroom and grab the dark green box, it has a bunch of glass bottles in it so please be careful"
Sirius dashed out toward the bathroom and quickly found the box. Once Sirius called to him telling him he had found it Regulus decided he should change out of the black hoodie he had been wearing all day. As he took it off a sharp pain shot through his right side. His bandages tightened when he stretched his arms all the way up. As Regulus finished pulling off the hoodie and went to untie his bandages he realized he had tied them too tight so he couldn't reach back and grab the knot without hurting himself. He tried to grab them and winced.
"Reg?" Sirius said sounding concerned "Everything ok?"
Regulus wasn't sure how to answer, he didn't want to worry his brother but he needed help or he was gonna hurt himself more.
"I'm good but can you help me with something?"
"Of course what do you need?" Sirius said sounding worried
"Can you come here" Regulus said nervously
Sirius came in and his face dropped "I told you to stop using bandages Reg, you're gonna crack a rib" Sirius said with concern evident in his face.
"I know, I know but I don't have another option and I tied it too tight so can you undo the knot?"
"Fine" Sirius said reluctantly but ultimately walked over and pulled the knot undone "there, now stop using those we'll get you healthier binding material but seriously stop using those." Regulus just nodded at his brother. Once he left Regulus let the bandages fall and quickly grabbed a black zip-up jacket, and a black T-shirt. He left the same jeans on but put those on and walked out.
Sirius had packed up everything that looked important "missing anything?" Sirius asked once he saw his brother. Regulus shook his head and they walked down the stairs with Sirius carrying his trunk. Once they got down the stairs Remus was sat on the windowsill with a book and neither Orion or Walburga were anywhere in sight. Remus noticed they were coming down and looked up from the book he was so clearly absorbed in. Remus closed it and Regulus got a look at the cover, he had been reading Pride and Prejudice. One of Regulus' favorites. As Regulus remembered reading Pride and Prejudice for the first time a shocking realization hit him and he ran back up the stairs.
"REGGIE?" Sirius called up the stairs
"I LEFT MY BOOKS" Regulus responded.
Sirius rolled his eyes but ran down the stairs to drop the trunk off with Remus "Can you put that in the car please?" Remus nodded and took the trunk to the car while Sirius ran back up the stairs to find Regulus who had already grabbed three separate trunks and was grabbing and carefully placing books into them.
"Dude," Sirius said once he got into the library out of breath from running up the stairs "What the hell happened back there?"
"I left my books" Regulus said like it was obvious
"Oh right of course" Sirius said sarcastically "Can I hel-"
"NO" Regulus cut him off clearly very protective over his books "Sorry, no thanks I got it Sirius"
"Don't worry about it I'll just wait and I'll help you carry them down"
Regulus seemed content with that, finishing up with his books and locking the trunks (it took TWENTY MINUTES). Sirius grabbed one of the trunks because Regulus insisted on grabbing the other two. Once they made it down the stairs for the second time Regulus, to Sirius' surprise, let Remus grab the two trunks he was holding. They all piled Regulus' things in the trunk and got in the car.
"Ready?" Remus asked Regulus as he turned the engine on.
"Ready" Regulus responded, the most sure of himself he'd ever been.
