Painkillers
Summary
Just another marauders fic centered around remus and sirius. With regulus and james in the background and lily evans being the absolute best. Vaguely inspired by the song Painkillers by Rainbow Kitten Surprise

An old steam engine train pulled up to the platform the same as every other year. Nothing out of the ordinary, a mass of peoplebustling around saying good by to their family as they boarded the train that would take them to a school made of magic, in the literal sense. Among this crowd are two young boys, who must've been around the age of twelve, already sprinting away from their families laughing and struggling to appear poised like the adults, one kept pushing up a pair of round black-framed glasses as they seemed determined to slip right off his nose. They had insisted that they needed to get proper seats for the long ride ahead of them, though it was mostly to get away from their parents who had been in the middle of the 'stay out of trouble' talk. Now there was yet to be any trouble caused, but their parents felt that they, as purebloods with a knack for magic, should only focus on their academics and forget about having fun while at school. They, however, had very different plans.

They stumbled down the aisleways, struggling to keep hold of their pets who they felt should stay uncaged for 'moral support' (at least that's what they claimed). In their rush they ran straight into a boy with greasy hair and a strongly hooked nose, the boy's eyes widened as he felt himself falling, groaning he looked up at who had knocked him over to see two black-haired boys looking slightly concerned. One of them opened his mouth in what might have been an apology when a girl with firey hair was grabbing the boy by the back of his robes and spun him around to look him in the face.

"Just who do you think you are! Do you think you own this train or something huh? you didn't even apologize to Severus when he fell," her face was turning the same shade as her hair from anger as she dragged a confused Severus up from the floor into a compartment and slammed the door without waiting for a response.

"Well, she was a bit of a bit-," he was cut off by his already distracted friend spotting something and perking up.

"Sirius! I think I see an open compartment!" an excited glint in his eye as he pulled his friend, Sirius Black, towards an empty-looking compartment, clutching an orange kitten in his arms. But when he slid the door open he saw a small boy curled into the corner, hurriedly wiping away what seemed to be tears and quickly looking out the window.

"oh..... um sorry, I thought this compartment was empty. But it looks like there's plenty of room! Mind if we join you? My name is James Potter and my unusually quiet friend is Siri-," he was promptly cut off by the small boys wavering voice.

"Sirius Black. Go ahead and make yourselves comfortable, I'm Peter Pettigrew by the way. It is nice to make your acquaintance" Quickly shaking off that he was recognized Sirius threw out a hand, letting his shoulders relax and the usual grin makes its way onto his face.

"Why so stiff Peter? Lighten up, we're going to Hogwarts! Hope we both end up in Gryffindor, yeah?" reaching out hesitantly Peter shook it. slowly giving a nervous smile back and muttering a yeah under his breath. After that, the boy relaxed and a friendly conversation involving something about how one of the boys was upset because he had to use his parent's hair care routine otherwise they'd murder him "I mean really! it doesn't even help my hair anyways! look how messy it is!!!!!" and the other two rolled around in laughter at the frustrated expression.

James introduced his cat excitedly and Sirius begrudgingly showed his pet snake who stayed curled around his arm and made peter squirm a bit uncomfortably. after what felt like forever the train began to move, all three of them rushed to the window to see the crowd fade and grassy fields take the view. the door of their compartment was suddenly opened by a tired, skinny-looking boy. He collapsed into the empty seat, pulling his tattered cloak around himself and pulling his collar up in a poor attempt to hide the coupling of scars on his face. seemingly unaware of the compartment full of people staring at him, he closes his eyes and appears to fall asleep.

"OI! who are you?" Sirius all but shouts at the boy, who cracks open a tired eye and sighs.

"Remus Lupin" and then he shut his eyes again. The three looked at each other in utter disbelief. The nerve of this kid to just ignore them, but Sirius was not yet done.

"Hey! don't go to sleep when i'm being nice to you. My family would have already kicked you out for your attitude. now why are you here?" he puffed up his chest importantly, he didn't necessarily like pulling the family card, but he will admit it gets him results. again the boy opened his eyes, blinking slowly.

"Oh I'm so sorry Mr. Black. I didn't know I needed permission to sit on the only seat left on the train" His voice dripped with sarcasm as a slow smirk began to make it's way onto his face. A quiet snort broke the stunned silence, because honestly, who would've guessed that reaction.

"I like you! I'm James Potter, nice to meet you. Ignore my obnoxious friend, he's not used to people having that kind of reaction. Sirius, sweety, do be a dear and sit down, can't have you scaring him off" James teased. Sirius huffed and sat down, looking slightly more flushed than he normally would have. Remus let out a slightly strained laugh.

"As I said before my name is Remus. As interesting as you lot seem I am quite tired, so if you wouldn't mind being Just a bit quiter while I rest that would be great." And then he curled up and closed his eyes again.

Much to Remus's annoyance, one he would have to put up with a long time, he did not get much sleep as it seemed that Sirius and James could not seem to stay quiet for that long. So the train chugged on to hogwarts, and who knows what sort of craziness these four would get themselves involved in.
