Note
This fic was originally written for last year's Fremione Fanatic's Yule Fest, but for personal reasons I had to pull out at the last minute. I hope you enjoy this big ball of fluff that's a year in the making. I'd also like to say a quick thank you to Moonfairy, whose constant encouragement, understanding, and positivity make the Fremione family such a lovely place to be. She truly is our Fairy Mum!

Hermione

“Merlin! That’s cold!” Ron shouted as the snow dripped down his neck.

“It’s snow, of course it’s cold,” Ginny replied, shaking the incriminating evidence from her mitten.

“Aren’t we meant to be making snowmen?” Hermione asked, she knew those two would be at each other’s throats if no one interviewed.

“Yeah, let’s get on with it,” Fred said walking up behind Hermione with a box of supplies they’d found in the attic.

“It’s kinda sweet how Fred always agrees with you, isn’t it Mione?” Ginny said deliberately.

“Hardly,” Fred chuckled. “Just the other night we had a proper row about pizza toppings.”

“A proper row? You got your disgrace of a half and I got my much superior half,” Hermione giggled.

“Oh yeah, you two can’t agree on a thing,” George said with a roll of his eyes. “So how are we going to do this? Normal rules?”

“Rules?” Angelina asked. “You lot can’t follow rules if your life depended on it. Last year was meant to be fully muggle and Bill built a bloody castle, complete with a working drawbridge.”

“Fleur wanted to play princess,” Bill said with absolutely no shame.

“No, mon chèri , I was a queen,” Fleur said with a wink.

“And now that that disgusting display is finished,” Ginny said, miming vomiting. “Let’s choose partners.”

“As we’re all coupled up this year, we can just go by that,” George said innocently.

“Excellent,” Ginny agreed. “Bill and Fleur over there, Perce, you and Oliver down there a bit. George and Ang over here, Ron and Lavender just up there a bit. Harry, we'll go over there, and that just leaves Fred and Hermione. You two think you can handle partnering up, or will it turn into a proper row?”

“I think we’ll manage,” Hermione said flatly. Could they really be any more obvious?

“We could switch it up if you prefer,” Fred said quietly next to Hermione.

“Don’t be ridiculous, we’re going to wipe the floor with the lot of them,” Hermione said with a smile.

“Deal.”

“So will we be going muggle or not?” Percy asked as he duplicated the box Fred had brought.

“No,” Fred said. “Hermione’s the only one with enough integrity to actually follow the rules. Besides, she bloody brilliant at charms.”

“As long as the only addition beyond snow and charms are what is in each box,” Percy said indignantly.

After a bit more arguing each couple grabbed a copy of the boxes and set off to their determined spots and began erecting walls of ice to keep everything private until the unveiling.

“So, I heard your Mum saying Charlie would be in this afternoon, which means he will be part of the judging. I say we use that,” Hermione said as she began pulling items from the box.

“You’re devious, witch. I love it!”

“Uhm, yes, so what’s his favourite dragon?”

Hermione couldn't quite decipher the look on his face, but it was making her pleasantly warm. Deciding a distraction was the best choice she took out her wand and began moving the snow into the right places.

As the time limit was nearing they heard a loud shout from the house and Hermione and Fred smiled at each other. Charlie had arrived just in time.

“You really are quite good at that,” Hermione said as Fred put the finishing touches on their creation.

“Just following your directions, love.”

This man would absolutely be her undoing. He had been acting even more friendly than usual and it was causing Hermione to think things she shouldn’t.

“Time to unveil!” Charlie shouted as he, Molly, and Arthur made their way to the makeshift quidditch pitch everyone had made their snowmen in.

Everyone made their way to where the newly arrived judges were standing.

“Charlie! I thought you were getting in later tonight, we would have waited,” Ginny said, hugging her big brother tightly.

“This is better, you all needed a more impartial judge than these two.” Charlie gestured to Molly and Arthur as he hugged her back.

“Let’s see what we’ve got here.” Arthur pointed his wand at the walls of ice that melted away to nothing.

“I see a clear winner!” Charlie exclaimed with a laugh.

Fred picked a squealing Hermione up and spun her around as Molly pinned the old homemade award onto the red headed ice wizard flying on the back of a dragon. Fred had even charmed Hermione’s heatless blue flames to shoot out of the dragon’s mouth.
