A Promise

Sirius knew that their brother was going to have friends over that day, which was such a shame as Sirius was already planning on wearing their costume in the fun room. They would just have to deal with Regulus' wrath.

The costume wasn’t anything special, but it was so expertly made. The fabric glided on their skin and made skating all that more elegant. They adored the costume, and the tall one with downy curls seemed to agree with him.

Trying to keep to themselves, Sirius continued to skate, and perhaps wanted to show off a bit too. They felt those eyes on them the entire time.

When they finally made it on the ice the friends immediately became accustomed with the floor while the tall one with downy curls clung to the bar. So lunky and full of muscles, looking so beyond out of place. It was endearing.

Sirius slid to where he was and was going to introduce themself, but they couldn’t help poking fun at him first. It revealed a disarming smile that Sirius was not prepared for. The palms that soon wrapped around his wrist were no different.

The tall one with downy curls was clinging onto them as they began to skate backwards, slowly. He seemed to never take his eyes off the ice and when he did the inevitable slip was soon to follow, but Sirius never let him fall.

“You’re freakishly strong for…”

“A figure-skater?”

“No! Someone as…”

“I know I’m small, no need to rub it in.”

He chuckled, not too much as to keep his footing. “It’s not a bad thing.”

“Maybe it’s because you’re such a giant.”

“That must be it.”

The two of them continue to skate and Sirius guides him through the rink, stealing glances when the other isn’t noticing. Inbedding every rough edge of his face.

Slowly he started to become more confident, and was able to stand up straight and loosen in his grip on their wrists. Not that they minded.

“I’m Remus.” He said once he was able to take his eyes off the ice for more than five seconds.

“Sirius.”

“I heard.”

“Am I just that famous?”

“I meant your brother yelling your name.”

Sirius slightly adjusted their path to start leading towards the middle of the rink. “Ah.”

“But you were in the Olympics last year?” He didn’t seem to notice.

“I was.” Sirius smiled. “And I’m assuming your Remus Lupin - Knicks new hot shot recruit.”

“It’s hard to forget names like ours.”

Sirius shook their head. “I think you’re just memorable.”

He gave an exasperated smile before realizing where they stood in the rink, letting out an audible gasp and gripping tighter on their wrists. “Sirius!”

“What?”

“You led us to the middle of the rink.”

“Did I?”

Remus huffed. “You very much did. Please get us back to the bar.”

“Would you feel safer if I did this?” They asked, spinning the two of them into a large circle.

A string of curses left his mouth. “I’m gonna fall!”

“I won’t let you.”

Sirius let out a devilish laugh as they spun faster, watching Remus’ eyes flash in panic. The tall one with the downy curls was such a softy.

The other two friends had upgraded to the bar, but attempted to waddle back when Regulus set foot on the ice. Sirius couldn’t hear them, but could assume they too knew of Regulus’ wrath. The two had fallen over once again and Regulus starred with his mouth agape.

“Sorry about them.” Remus caught his eyeline.

Sirius shrugged. “They seem to make Regulus happy.”

“They always talk about him, but I’ve never heard of you.”

“Ouch.”

“Not like that. I mean where the hell did you come from?” Remus squeezed at their wrists with the sharp turn.

“From the depths of hell, of course. And you?”

“From my mothers bloody vagina, of course.”

“Gross!” Sirius yelled.

Remus laughed fully and unfearful for once, leaning his head back with a wad of fog dissipating into the air around him.

Hours and laughs passed, with Remus now only huffing when Sirius dragged him into an elaborate spin, which landed him right in their arms. Sirius couldn’t help but smirk up at him.

“How does it feel like?”

Sirius dropped his eyebrows. “How does what feel like?”

“Skating the way you do.”

Raising their chin and cracking their neck to look into Remus’ eyes, they answered with a shit eating grin. “I could tag you along.”

His face dropped. “No, no - n- No!”

Sirius interlaced their fingers around his elbow and dropped their other hand, and set off, going as fast as they could. Obviously keeping it simple, but intricate enough to make the air leave Remus’ lungs. However, after the initial shock, he seemed to thoroughly enjoy it. His face lit up alongside the adrenaline.

“If you let me go, I will tear apart your costume and come back everyday to do the same to all your costumes!” He threatened.

They giggled, bringing their free hand to cover their mouth. “Is that a promise?” Sirius yelled back.

When the turns gave out and Sirius slowed down, they led them to the nearest bar, allowing Remus to rest. He doubled over, one hand on the bar, the other above his knee.

“How’d you like it?”

Remus met their eyes and a wicked smile broke out. “You’re incredible.”

“I’ve been told.” They smiled back.

He attempted to stand again to which Sirius helped him with, but then lowered his voice and spoke right next their ear. “If the other’s hear this they will bully me to no end.”

Sirius suppressed a shiver, bringing a hand to his shoulder to steady Remus.

He leaned back a bit. “Would you like to go on a date with me?”

“You know I’m not a girl right? Don’t let the skirt deceive you.”

“I know.”

“I’m not a boy either.”

“I know.”

“So a date?” They chewed on their lip, absentmindedly trailing their fingers on his shoulders.

Remus’ attempts to ignore it were going terribly. “What are you doing after this?”
