Chapter 2
She'd spent the night at Percy's.
Ginny was sat in the spare room she'd slept in.
She was scared to go downstairs, an irrational fear triggered by nothing with no proof.
The door creaked open, her hand rested loosely on the handle. She heard noises downstairs.
Inside the kitchen the three kids sat around the table. They were chatting and laughing. Percy was cooking something on the stove that smelt suspiciously like pancakes.
"Hello!" A small child looked up at her with a toothy grin.
She laughed, "Well hello to you too"
The little girl giggled. "Oh, Ginny good morning" Percy turned around and smiled at her.
"Morning"
"Want some pancakes?"
"Um, yeah sure. Thanks"
"Cool, it'll be two mins."
Ginny awkwardly sat down at the table. Kayla and the toddler smiling at her. A boy around fourteen looked at her suspiciously. She should really learn their names.
"So which year are you in?" She said, looking back at the boy.
He pouted slightly deciding whether to answer, "I'm in fourth year," he paused for a second before looking at her with a confused smile. "So um are you like from Dad's work? Or..."
Ginny stuttered, it was weird knowing that they were literally her nieces and nephews and she was their aunt but yet they knew nothing about one another.
"I'm, ah, Percy's sister"
He stared at her. "Really?"
She nodded.
"Well, how come we've never seen you before? I feel a bit bad that I don't even know your name."
She attempted a smile, "Well, I'm Ginny."
"I'm Jesse, and this is Nat." He said gesturing to the youngest sat eating pancakes.
"Hey Gin, you want chocolate spread, golden syrup, or lemons and sugar?"
"Chocolate thanks."
He handed her some amazing looking pancakes, she didn't realise that Percy could cook this well.
"Oh these look great."
"No problem"
"Hey Kay, what time did Da said he'd be back around?"
She checked her phone, "Bout an hour."
"Do you mind going to the park after breakfast guys?"
Nat started chanting "Park! Park! Park!"
Kayla smiled, "Sure. As long as Jesse comes too"
So they ate. The kids chatting with Percy and talking like a family. It was definitely odd. Odd that Percy was married. He had a family, that didn't involve them, or Ginny, or their Mum or their Dad or any of the others. She was still wondering how he'd managed to hide such a big part of himself. She'd never seen him so relaxed or at home. He looked comfortable, laughing and joking with his kids. She just couldn't get over it.
The kids left, taking with them the comfortable atmosphere.
"So, um, yeah." Percy hummed.
"Yeah."
They walking into the living room, "So, did we miss anything yesterday?"
She sighed, "Yeah kinda."
"Where do you wanna start?"
"At the beginning I guess." she laughed
He smiled nervously, "So yeah, we, um, started dating at the end of fifth year, like I said. Olly's amazing really, been with me through everything. When things got bad between me and you guys and everything. Things were great, are great."
"It's just kinda weird, very new and all that stuff. So no one else knows?"
"Nope. Your the only person."
"How does nobody know?"
Percy's smile tilted slightly, "I guess no one really asked."
"Wait so you said you got married in 1999 right?"
He nodded.
"Wow, you actually were the second to get married."
Percy laughed, "Yup"
Ginny thought for a second. "So who came to the wedding?"
"Well, it was kind of small to be honest. Mainly Oliver's family, then all our friends. Oh, and Sirius and Remus came too."
She smiled, "That sounds nice."
"I really wished you guys were there."
Ginny felt bad for not being there. For not being someone he could talk to. For not going to his wedding. For not knowing his husband, for not knowing his kids.
For not knowing Percy.
"Me too."
